Across the U.S., Over 45,000 Participate in 100 BAPS Charities Walks

NEW YORK, June 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- In a powerful display of community unity and service, more than 45,000 Americans across 100 cities participated in the annual BAPS Charities Walk-Run this past weekend, turning local streets into pathways of collective action. Through a unique approach, this nationwide initiative allowed each city to support causes that mattered most to their communities. This year, the Walk-Run supported over 50 local organizations—from fire and police departments to groups serving veterans, seniors, women, and the homeless. More than 20 health-focused nonprofits also benefited, including those advancing mental health, cancer care, and family wellness. Several schools and education programs received support as well—underscoring how the Walk continues to make a meaningful impact in neighborhoods across the country. The volunteer effort highlighted a quiet but profound spirit of service, as families and individuals set out to make a difference. From 16-year-old Aarav Dubal lacing his sneakers in Robbinsville, New Jersey, to seniors walking with canes in Los Angeles, California, the energy was contagious. This year's theme, "Spirit of Service," resonated deeply in cities and communities across the country. In Houston, TX, the walk supported NAMI Greater Houston, helping fund vital mental health services in a city where post-pandemic demand has surged. In San Jose, CA, thousands laced up to provide essential resources for local public schools. Orlando, FL walkers raised funds for a children's cancer camp, while the Dallas, TX community rallied behind local veterans to ensure they receive the support they deserve. In Detroit, MI, participants walked to support their community, and in Albany, NY, the walk also benefited the local fire department. Meanwhile, in Philadelphia, PA, walkers gave back to underserved neighborhoods and community centers. "Wonderful charities like BAPS Charities are helping to fight the stigma around mental health, and we appreciate you for that," said Angela Hudson, CEO of NAMI Greater Houston. The wide range of causes supported by the walk made a meaningful impact across communities and enhanced the well-being of individuals and families. "It's one thing to care," said Bhargav Ashier, a participant in Edison, NJ. "But it's another thing to show up. And this weekend, America showed up in force, proving that compassion is a powerful force for change." The event's unique community-focused structure allowed each city to maximize its local impact, reflecting specific needs. In Sugar Land, TX, hundreds joined the walk, including Mayor Joe Zimmerman, who lauded the effort: "Your community makes a real difference in Sugar Land. What you do matters." For over 20 years, BAPS Charities has cultivated this grassroots model, empowering everyday citizens to become changemakers. With more than 1,100 Walk-Runs organized across North America, over the past 20 years, the initiative has built a vast network of civic engagement. Nilkanth Patel, President of BAPS Charities, describes it as "the kindness ripple effect." "From New York to Houston, and San Jose to Detroit, our interconnected community," Mr. Patel explained, "is driven by compassion, ensures our work touches lives in cities all across the country." At a time when the importance of unity and harmony is paramount, this weekend offered a rare and compelling portrait of communities moving forward—step by step, city by city—towards tangible improvements in the lives of its citizens. Miley Cyrus got ‘brutal infection' after rolling around on Walk of Fame for film

Miley Cyrus has said she believes that rolling around on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for a new music film led to a 'brutal infection' on her knee. The US singer, 32, who found fame playing Hannah Montana on the eponymous children's show, was filmed lying across part of the historic Los Angeles landmark for her new film, Something Beautiful. 'I filmed this video in October, and by November, at Thanksgiving, I was put in ICU (intensive care unit), for a moment, just for a moment,' she told US chat show Jimmy Kimmel Live! 'But it's mostly because it was Thanksgiving. There was a lot of people in the ER (emergency room), you know, people choking on turkey legs or whatever. 'And my leg began to disintegrate within some way around the kneecap area. The doctor goes, 'You have any idea why you would have such a brutal infection on your kneecap?' And I just saw myself,' she said while mimicking dance moves from the video. 'And I had to tell him. And to have a surgeon look at you and say, 'Yuck.' 'They open up like cadavers, like they see inside the guts of humans, and they're looking at me, telling me I'm disgusting.' Asked if the area where she filmed had been steamed first, Cyrus replied: 'Absolutely not, none of that. 'Because, you know, with this movie, I had a big dream and a small budget. 'Well, I had a pretty good budget, but I spent it all on my clothes. 'Then when it came time to go to the Walk of Fame, they're like 'So what are you going to do? Are you going to rent this thing or what, because that's really out of your price range.' I was like, 'No, we'll just go in the middle of the night.' 'Have you been to the Walk of Fame in the middle of the night? I thought it was my last day.' The new film is accompanied by the singer's ninth studio album of the same name which includes a song titled Walk Of Fame, featuring US musician Brittany Howard. The album is being released on May 30 and there will be special one-night-only screenings of the film internationally on June 27.

Credit: ABC During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! this week, the pop star joked: 'I was rolling around on the sidewalk - very glamorous, I know. I caught something!' She had been recording visuals for her new track Walk of Fame, which features in her upcoming album, Something Beautiful, set for release on Friday. Filming took place back in October, but by the time Thanksgiving rolled around, Miley was in the ICU. She told Jimmy that emergency departments were overcrowded at the time so she was admitted to intensive care 'just for a moment'. "The surgeon was like, 'Do you know why you'd have such a brutal infection on your kneecap?' And I had to admit… I was crawling around on the pavement. 'To have a surgeon look at you and say, 'Yuck' - and they cut into actual brains for a living - that's a lot,' Miley added with humour. Jimmy asked whether the pavement had at least been cleaned beforehand. Advertisement Most read in Celebrity Exclusive Miley admitted: 'Absolutely not. I had a big dream and a small-ish budget. Well, a decent budget - but I spent most of it on clothes.' Rather than rent the space, Miley and her team decided to film guerrilla-style in the middle of the night. Reflecting on the slightly chaotic shoot, she told Jimmy: 'Have you ever been to the Walk of Fame at night? I thought it was my last day.' Thankfully, she's since made a full recovery - but it's not the only health scare that's affected her music career. Despite fan demand, Miley hasn't embarked on a headline world tour in over a decade. While she once blamed it on her tour outfits getting creased (a reason even she admits was flimsy), she's now come clean about the real issue. 'My voice is super-unique because of it, but I do have this Reinke's edema and I have this large polyp on my cords — and I'm not willing to sever it because the chance of waking up from surgery and not sounding like myself is a probability.' 3 Miley recently revealed she stopped touring due to a large polyp on her vocal cords Credit: AFP Advertisement
