Kristi Noem takes action amidst Lewandowski affair allegations
Donald Trump's Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has moved from her private residence into a U.S. military installation, after her cozy living arrangement with senior adviser Corey Lewandowski was exposed by Insiders tell that Lewandowski, however, still makes trips to see his longtime rumored lover, now at her new digs at the Coast Guard Commandant's quarters. 'Public safety is her concern here? That's rich,' one insider told 'She and her chief of affair(s) show up to every public safety event like it's a couples' retreat. 'If they spent less time staging optics and more time expanding and enhancing law enforcement operations, maybe ICE agents wouldn't be getting assaulted at record rates.' They argue Noem already has plenty of security and has exhibited little concern in her public appearances, joining agents at the border in Mexico, an El Salvador prison, ICE raids in New York and at last month's anti-ICE riots in Los Angeles. She's even been called 'ICE Barbie' for treating her Cabinet position like a reality TV production, often joined on her trips by Lewandowski (pictured). Lewandowski had served as Trump's campaign manager in 2016 and his senior adviser during the 2024 presidential race, but his role within the president's administration has always been murky. However, the political operative, who has been described as Noem's 'de facto chief of staff,' has been seen accompanying the DHS secretary on various official trips. In April, DHS officials clarified that Lewandowski is an 'adviser to DHS' and a special government employee. Noem's recent move has led critics to question why she should get free, taxpayer-funded housing that they don't believe other officials such as Secretary of State Marco Rubio get. However DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin described Noem's situation as unique. 'Secretary Noem continues to pay rent at her Navy Yard residence and has sought temporary living with greater security as threats have continued to increase against her as she leads DHS law enforcement who are facing an 830% increase in assaults against them,' spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin told Another administration official mocked this argument. 'She wanted to move so photographers couldn't be on site and show what's going on, so she and Corey could be more private,' the source told 'They are connected at the hip. After the story broke, it caused a little bit of a rabbit jump.' The former governor of South Dakota moved into DC's fashionable Navy Yard neighborhood over the winter. reported on their living arrangement in April, noting how she was renting a place across the street from Lewandowski. Lewandowski, 51, her 'chief of staff,' was a regular visitor to Noem's $3,750 per month, two-bed Navy Yard condo that enjoys breathtaking panoramic views of Southeast Washington and the Anacostia River. And he didn't have far to travel because his own luxe digs were directly opposite in a smart rental building boasting a lap pool, gym, and spa. 'I've seen them together here both in the elevator and in common areas,' one resident of Noem's building told in April. 'Don't forget DC is a small town and people talk. It is an open secret that they are together. It has always been joked about that Navy Yard is a dorm for Hill Republicans and Trump staffers – now it's even higher up, with married cabinet secretaries bunking their volunteer chiefs.' Widespread reports of their rumored years-long affair have caused persistent agita for Noem and Lewandowski, both of whom are married. They have repeatedly denied the rumors, which have continued to dog them and caused frustration and snickers among others in the administration, who question Lewandowski's influence as a special government employee exempt from many ethics' rules. can now reveal that Noem moved out a short time later. Her spokesperson blamed for exposing what had been an open secret, claiming it put her at risk at a time she and other officials and ICE border agents are facing increased threats amid the agency's crackdown on illegal immigration. 'Following the Daily Mail's publication of where Secretary Noem lives, including photos, she has faced an increase in threats against her, as well as extensive doxing,' McLaughlin stated. 'Her security detail had to be increased, particularly the security footprint outside of her living quarters.'

No bedding, sleeping guards and cockroaches: chief prisons inspector on why HMP Pentonville is in special measures
The chief inspector of prisons has described the sense of "helplessness" at Pentonville prison after the jail was put into special measures by a watchdog. Charlie Taylor, the chief inspector of prisons, described "bleak" conditions at the north London prison, where he said inmates had been illegally detained longer than their release date and supervised by staff who were either reading books or asleep. Mr Taylor served an urgent notification on HMP Pentonville after an inspection discovered that 130 inmates - 20% of those eligible for release - had been held illegally after their release date in the last six months because staff "failed to calculate sentences accurately". The backlog in sentencing calculations also meant 10 prisoners had been released early "in error" between July 2024 and June 2025. The watchdog's report also found that 60% of prisoners were sharing cells that were designed for one person, many living areas were dirty and that there was a widespread infestation of mice and cockroaches. Speaking to Sky News Breakfast, Mr Taylor said he had been forced to use the "rare" power of putting a prison in special measures because of the "chaos" at Pentonville. "This is a big, busy London reception prison, Victorian, crumbling," he said. "But particularly worrying, we found new arrivals were coming into the jail with no bedding, no pillows. I came across a guy who had only half a mattress in his room on his first night in prison. "We found prison staff who couldn't account for where their prisoners were during the day. We found prisoners who were on constant watch, who were on suicide watch, being supervised by staff who were reading books, who were asleep in one case, and in one case, completely absent." Pentonville is the 10th prison to be issued with an urgent notification since November 2022, following Exeter, Cookham Wood Young Offender Institution, Woodhill, Bedford, Wandsworth, Rochester, Manchester and Winchester prisons. The emergency measure was introduced in 2017 as a way to raise immediate concerns following an inspection, which requires a response and action plan by the justice secretary within 28 days. In a letter to Shabana Mahmood, the justice secretary, Mr Taylor said arrangements for new prisoners' first night at the north London jail and induction were "chaotic and even frightening", with the majority of prisoners were locked in their cells for more than 22 hours a day. Inspectors took emergency action after they found care of vulnerable prisoners under constant supervision was "shockingly poor", with one prison officer found asleep, two were reading books and another was "completely absent". The "unacceptable practices" in looking after these prisoners, deemed at serious risk of self-harm, were a particular concern for inspectors given three suicides at the jail in 2025. Mr Taylor told Sky News there was a sense of "helplessness" at Pentonville. "There was a sense that this is Pentonville and there's nothing we can do, and it's all too difficult and just a lack of real morale amongst many of the staff members that we talked to, despite many of them doing a really good job in difficult circumstances," he said. "It was a pretty bleak place. It was very noisy. It was violent, drugs are getting into the jail and really it needs some proper grip from the prison service if it's going to make progress." A survey of prisoners also revealed 44% told inspectors they felt unsafe at the time of inspection, which the watchdog said was the highest figure recorded during his tenure as chief inspector. Prisons minister Lord James Timpson said he visited the prison on Thursday, where the team is already working to urgently address the concerns raised by the chief inspector. An action plan will also be published in the coming weeks to support the efforts. Lord Timpson said: "This government will end the chaos we inherited in our jails. "We are building 14,000 new prison places and reforming sentencing so our jails reduce reoffending, cut crime, and keep victims safe."

‘He's a lot of fun to be with': Trump and Epstein were close friends for 15 years
It was a friendship that spanned three different decades. To Donald Trump, Jeffrey Epstein was a 'terrific guy'. Epstein believed himself to be Trump's 'closest friend', and praised the future president as 'charming'. The relationship would eventually break down, the men falling out over a bidding war on a property in Florida. And after Epstein was convicted of child sex offences in 2008, Trump distanced himself from the financier, claiming he was 'not a fan' and wondering, in recent days, why his supporters would 'waste time and energy' on demanding that FBI and Department of Justice files on Epstein be released. But photos, videos and anecdotes paint a picture of a close friendship, of two middle-aged men who repeatedly partied together both alone and with their partners, including with Melania Knauss, who would go on to become Trump's third wife. 'I've known Jeff for 15 years. Terrific guy,' Trump told New York magazine in 2002. 'He's a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side.' Trump's insight into Epstein's predilections would be proved true in macabre fashion, when Epstein was found guilty in 2008 of sexually abusing girls aged between 14 and 17 years old. When Epstein was charged with sex trafficking of minors, in 2019, Trump attempted to play down their relationship, insisting: 'I knew him like everybody in Palm Beach knew him.' Trump said the pair had fallen out years earlier, and claimed: 'I was not a fan of his.' But during the 15 years that the men were friends, there were plenty of incidents that displayed Trump and Epstein's closeness. The New York Times reported that in 1992, George Houraney, a Florida-based businessman, had organized a 'calendar girl' competition at Mar-a-Lago, Trump's private members' club where he would later live full-time. Houraney flew more than two dozen women to Mar-a-Lago, but he had a surprise when they arrived. 'I arranged to have some contestants fly in,' Houraney told the Times. 'At the very first party, I said, 'Who's coming tonight? I have 28 girls coming.' It was him and Epstein.' Houraney said he was surprised. 'I said: 'Donald, this is supposed to be a party with VIPs. You're telling me it's you and Epstein?'' It ended up being just Trump and Epstein. Back then, Trump made no secret of the friendship. He was pictured with Epstein at events and parties from New York to Florida. Video from a party at Mar-a-Lago in 1992 shows the pair in conversation as a dance track booms through the speakers. Trump whispers something into Epstein's ear, prompting Epstein to bend over laughing. The tape was aired by NBC News during Trump's first term as president, and the news channel reported that it showed both Trump and Epstein pointing out women, while at one point Trump gestures to a woman and says: 'Look at her, back there … she's hot.' In 1993 Stacey Williams, then a professional model, visited Trump at Trump Tower with Epstein. On arrival, she would later tell the Guardian, Trump put his hands 'all over my breasts', waist and buttocks while Trump and Epstein smiled at each other, in what she believed was a 'twisted game' between the two men. 'It became very clear then that he and Donald were really, really good friends and spent a lot of time together,' Williams said in 2024. Karoline Leavitt, then a spokesperson for Trump's election campaign, described Williams's accusations as 'unequivocally false. It's obvious this fake story was contrived by the Harris campaign.' What is undeniable is that the men maintained their relationship through the 1990s. They were photographed at Mar-a-Lago, and the same year were pictured together at a Victoria's Secret Angels event in New York. The relationship endured. Photos show Trump and Epstein with Melania Trump and Ghislaine Maxwell at an event in 2000. Maxwell would be sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2022 for procuring teen girls for Jeffrey Epstein for him to abuse – when she was charged with the crimes Trump responded: 'I just wish her well, frankly.' The Wall Street Journal also reported on Thursday that Trump allegedly wrote Epstein a birthday card as part of a 50th birthday album organized by Ghislaine Maxwell in 2003. The letter was fashioned in the shape of a woman's body, and comprised of an imaginary dialogue between the two, the Journal said. 'Donald: We have certain things in common, Jeffrey. Jeffrey: Yes, we do, come to think of it. Donald: Enigmas never age, have you noticed that?' it read, with Trump's signature squiggled as it were pubic hair on the outline of the body. Sign up to This Week in Trumpland A deep dive into the policies, controversies and oddities surrounding the Trump administration after newsletter promotion Trump once believed Epstein to be a terrific guy, but he wasn't the only one who talked up the friendship. Years later Epstein would tell the journalist Michael Wolff that he had been Trump's 'closest friend for 10 years', in audio tapes published on Wolff's Fire and Fury podcast last year. Epstein also told Wolff that Trump liked to 'fuck the wives of his best friends', and said the first time he slept with Melania Trump was on Epstein's plane. Trump's camp claimed that Wolff was engaging in 'false smears' and 'election interference'. The close friendship wouldn't last. The relationship soured in 2004, according to reports, after the pair became embroiled in a bidding war over a property in Palm Beach. In 2019, after Epstein was arrested, he said had not spoken to Trump for 15 years. And despite his own close relationship with Epstein, Trump would go on to criticize others for the same thing, with Bill Clinton a particular source of deflection. Trump even shared a conspiracy theory that the former president was involved in Epstein's death – ironically sparking more intrigue in the case. Trump told reporters days after Epstein died: 'The question you have to ask is, did Bill Clinton go to the island? Because Epstein had an island. That was not a good place, as I understand it, and I was never there.' Trump adds: 'So you have to ask, did Bill Clinton go to the island? That's the question. If you find that out, you're going to know a lot.' Clinton has denied going to the Little St James island, which Epstein owned and later became synonymous with his crimes. Trump now finds himself in a mess that is partly of his own making. The 'Epstein didn't commit suicide' conspiracy theory in which he dabbled quickly spread among rightwing commentators and media figures – many of whom demanded that documents related to Epstein's associates be released. When the Department of Justice failed to do so last week, it caused a rarely seen rift between Trump and his supporters, with Trump trying to brush off the saga, and his supporters angry at a perceived lack of transparency. When Trump was elected in 2024, his supporters believed they were getting an administration that was anti-swamp and pro-open government, the kind of government that holds back no secrets. But looking back at Trump's statements on the Epstein files during the campaign, the president appeared to be leaving himself wriggle room. Asked in an interview in September if he would declassify 'the 9/11 files' and 'the JFK files', Trump said yes. He is then asked if he would declassify 'the Epstein files', and initially said yes, but added: 'I think that [declassifying the Epstein files], less so, because you don't know – you don't want to affect people's lives if there's phoney stuff in there, because there's a lot of phoney stuff with that whole world.' That wavering hasn't helped Trump, however, as he has attempted to quash his supporters' rebellion. In a cabinet meeting last week the president expressed surprise that people were 'still talking' about Epstein, later pleading with his base to 'not waste time and energy on Jeffrey Epstein, somebody that nobody cares about'. How wrong he was. It turns out loads of people care about Jeffrey Epstein – particularly the people who support Trump. It was something Trump addressed on Wednesday, when he explicitly attacked his supporters in a post on Truth Social. 'My PAST supporters have bought into this 'bullshit,' hook, line, and sinker,' Trump wrote. He added: 'I have had more success in 6 months than perhaps any president in our country's history, and all these people want to talk about, with strong prodding by the fake news and the success starved Dems, is the Jeffrey Epstein hoax. Let these weaklings continue forward and do the Democrats work, don't even think about talking of our incredible and unprecedented success, because I don't want their support anymore!' Trump revels in his relationship with rank-and-file rightwing Americans, a relationship that has benefited him to the tune of two presidential terms and hundreds of millions of dollars. For the past decade it has seemed as if that relationship could endure any scandal, any broken promise. But now, for the first time, Trump is finding cracks in his support. That past friendship with Jeffrey Epstein, the 'terrific guy' turned 'creep', could prove to be the president's undoing.
