The Polokwane Magistrate's Court has remanded 43-year-old Zimbabwean national Mhlalisi Moyo in custody after he was arrested in Limpopo for possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle.
Provincial police spokesperson in Limpopo, Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, said Moyo appeared in court on Friday, and his case was postponed to May 29 for formal bail application.
Last week, Mashaba said Moyo was arrested during a joint operation comprising the SAPS anti-smuggling task team, Tshimollo Security and Investigation, Reflex Anti-hijacking Security, and Tracker SA.
'The Toyota RAV4 was intercepted at approximately 8 pm (on Wednesday) near Shell Ultra City in Polokwane on the N1 highway,' said Mashaba.

Zimbabwean man, Mhlalisi Moyo, was remanded in custody by the Polokwane Magistrate's Court after he was arrested for possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle, a Toyota RAV4.

The sport utility vehicle was reported stolen in Brooklyn, Tshwane.

On Friday, IOL reported that the Mokopane Magistrate's Court remanded 34-year-old Lucky Msizi Tshabangu in custody after he was arrested in Limpopo, while driving a stolen vehicle towards Zimbabwe.
At the time, Mashaba said the case against Tshabangu was postponed to Monday, enabling him to get legal representation.
Tshabangu is facing charges of possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle, as well as reckless and negligent driving after he allegedly tried to flee from police.
The 34-year-old South African national was arrested at Mokopane last week, and police believe he was travelling to Zimbabwe with the stolen vehicle.
Lucky Msizi Tshabangu, 34, was remanded in custody after he was arrested in Limpopo, while allegedly driving a stolen Toyota Corolla Cross vehicle towards Zimbabwe.

'In an intelligence-driven operation, police officers intercepted a Toyota Corolla Cross at Mokopane CBD on the R101, which was en route to the Beitbridge port of entry,' said Mashaba.
'Investigations revealed that this vehicle had been reported stolen from the Wierdabrug policing area in Tshwane on Friday (16 May 2025).'
Meanwhile, provincial commissioner of police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has praised the vigilance of all law enforcement units involved.
"The recovery of these twelve vehicles represents a significant blow to this criminal networks. Our officers and their partners continue to work tirelessly to dismantle these syndicates that threaten our communities and economy," she said.

The State knew the attorneys, but details were never furnished before the pre-trial.' the defence received the docket only two weeks before the trial, and even then, it was incomplete. 'We had to climb the mountain of fetching the contents ourselves. It is unconstitutional to shift that duty to the defence,' she said, adding that the limited preparation time made it impossible to consult witnesses, strategise, or fully assess video evidence. Mkabayi accused the police of arresting her client without a warrant and subjecting him to torture. the first doctor to examine him did not rule out that his injuries were consistent with abuse, she said. 'Yet Captain Philip Seekoei still took a confession from him. Any statement from a tortured person is inadmissible, a bleeding man has no will,' she told the court. She said officers failed to inform her client of his rights to remain silent, to legal representation, and not to incriminate himself. She also blasted the trial court for failing to make a clear ruling on the admissibility of the confession after a trial-within-a-trial. 'This confession was not made freely or voluntarily. Suffocation was used,' she said. Moments later, Mkabayi told the court she was unwell, and proceedings paused. Advocate Fanie Harmse, representing Jacquen 'Boeta' Appollis, then aimed at the credibility of the State's star witness, Section 204 accomplice Lourentia 'Renz' Lombaard. He said even she testified that Appollis wanted nothing to do with the alleged plot to sell Joshlin. Harmse questioned why another alleged suspect, Phumza 'Maka Lima' Sigaqa, was never charged despite evidence suggesting Joshlin may have been taken to her house. He argued Appollis's statement to police was coerced, citing a video showing him limping and medical notes from Sergeant Fortuin recording fresh injuries on March 6, 2024. 'Those injuries cannot be wished away,' he said. In the same proceedings, Advocate Eben van Tonder, representing Lombaard, defended her credibility and argued that she had testified truthfully throughout the trial. Van Tonder noted that the Western Cape High Court had found 'sufficient corroboration for the reliability' of Lombaard's testimony, supported by both direct and circumstantial evidence. He stressed that, despite defence claims that she was unreliable, the court appeared to have relied on her account when reaching its judgment. Taking the 'totality of the evidence and surrounding circumstances' into account, Van Tonder said the witness had been honest. He added that she had made 'huge personal sacrifices' in her life, uprooting herself and her children to enter witness protection. 'She has much to lose,' Van Tonder argued. 'She knows her possible immunity from prosecution will be jeopardised if she is dishonest to the court. This in itself incentivised her to be truthful.' He submitted that she qualified for full immunity under Section 204 of the Criminal Procedure Act on all counts in the indictment and any competent verdicts arising from it. Joshlin vanished from her Middelpos home in Saldanha Bay on February 19, 2024. Her mother, Racquel 'Kelly' Smith, Appollis, and Van Rhyn were later convicted of kidnapping and human trafficking, each receiving life sentences. The appeal continues on Wednesday morning.

‘Untrue allegations': IDAC denies warrants for national police commissioner Masemola
Despite allegations, no arrest warrants have been issued for Lieutenant General Fannie Masemola, says IDAC spokesperson. The Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) dismissed claims that arrest warrants exist for National Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Fannie Masemola, emphasising that no such warrants have been issued. In the past weeks, there has been speculation about Masemola's possible arrest following a clampdown on other senior officials in the South African Police Service (Saps), in an investigation involving R45 million in property deals. On Monday, The Citizen reported that Masemola and four senior crime intelligence officers will each face at least four charges for their roles in the multimillion-rand acquisition of buildings by the Saps Crime Intelligence Unit. No arrest warrants for Masemola – IDAC IDAC, and entity of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), refuted these allegations as untrue on Tuesday. 'The NPA's Investigating Directorate Against Corruption has, in the past weeks, received media queries relating to unfounded allegations of warrants having been issued for the arrest of the National Police Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola, and others, and has taken note of numerous false articles that have been published on these allegations,' IDAC spokesperson Henry Mamothame said in a statement on Tuesday. At the centre of the speculation is the decision by Saps to buy buildings without going through the normal procurement process through the Department of Public Works. Masemola suspended Crime Intelligence head Lieutenant General Dumisani Khumalo, acting Crime Intelligence supply chain head Brigadier Janse van Vuuren, and finance and administration services head Colonel Samamaya Mayekiso in connection with the matter. Saps property purchases investigation Khumalo was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport in June following an 'extensive' probe into the alleged unlawful purchase of two luxury properties. Last month, the EFF leader Julius Malema said that Masemola would be arrested for conspiring with Khumalo. MMC vows to take decisive action against illegal traders and road offenders The metro won't tolerate lawlessness, and will take decisive action against illegal traders, road offenders, and those found to be in the country unlawfully. This is according to MMC for Community Safety, Hannes Coetzee, who made the remarks following a series of co-ordinated TMPD operations across the metro recently. Coetzee said the operations were aimed at protecting residents, upholding the rule of law, and sending a clear signal to offenders that Tshwane is not a haven for criminal activity. In Winterveldt, TMPD Region 1 Sector 1 officers spearheaded a joint operation targeting the unlawful presence of individuals in the country and the illegal sale of alcohol. The operation resulted in the arrest of 12 suspects, nine for being in the country illegally, and three for trading alcohol without valid licences. According to Coetzee, the arrests demonstrate that the metro is prepared to act decisively against those who disregard regulations, operate outside the legal framework, and exploit vulnerable communities for personal gain. Simultaneously, in Hammanskraal, Sector 1 officers conducted an intensive road safety blitz aimed at increasing compliance with traffic regulations. Dozens of vehicles were stopped and inspected, leading to the issuing of 62 AARTO infringement notices for violations, including unroadworthy vehicles, failure to display valid documentation, and reckless driving. Coetzee said road safety remained a top priority, adding that enforcement operations play a vital role in reducing road accidents, improving driver behaviour, and ultimately saving lives. – In a separate incident, TMPD patrol officers intercepted two vehicles transporting 53 Zimbabwean nationals, who were found to be in the country illegally. These individuals were taken into custody and are now undergoing the due immigration process. Coetzee emphasised that such interventions are crucial in maintaining border integrity, safeguarding public order, and preventing the exploitation of migrants by unscrupulous operators. 'We want to be unequivocal. Tshwane is not a haven for criminality. Whether it be unlicensed trading, road law violations, or illegal immigration, we will act decisively. 'The law is not an option; it is a non-negotiable standard. These operations reflect not only our resolve to enforce the law but also our dedication to protecting the dignity and safety of every resident.' He also expressed deep appreciation to TMPD officers for their professionalism, dedication, and the personal risks they take to keep communities safe. He described the success of the operations as the result of effective planning, collaboration with key stakeholders, and a shared commitment to upholding the values enshrined in the Constitution. Coetzee urged residents to actively support the TMPD's work by reporting suspicious activities, adhering to the law, and fostering a culture of mutual respect and accountability. 'We hear your concerns, we feel your frustrations, and we are acting. 'Together, we will build a metro defined not by disorder, but by law, dignity and opportunity,' he said.
