Gujarat mandates female cops on girls' school trips to boost safety
AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat Police has mandated the presence of two uniformed policemen on all school trips, linking security directly to student safety. When female students are involved, the directive tightens to require female officers alongside their male counterparts.
This move aims to safeguard students during educational outings while strengthening ties between youth and law enforcement.
Following directives from the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister at the recent DGP-IGP Conference-2024, Gujarat's State Police Chief Vikas Sahay has announced a stringent new safety protocol.
Effective immediately, all school-organised trips, tours, picnics, and visits across government, semi-government, and private institutions must include the presence of two uniformed policemen.
The rule intensifies when girl students are involved, mandating the accompaniment of women police officers to ensure their protection, says DGP Office Official Press Release.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary, Atal Dulloo and Director General of Police (DGP), Nalin Prabhat on Sunday reviewed the security ahead of the annual Mata Kheer Bhawani festival in Tullamulla town of Ganderbal district. The annual festival starts on June 3. Both the DGP and the Chief Secretary offered prayers at the temple, highlighting the cultural and spiritual significance of the event. Officials reiterated their commitment to providing a smooth and secure experience for all devotees attending the annual pilgrimage. The Mela, one of the most important religious gatherings for the Kashmiri Pandit community, attracts devotees from across the country. Dedicated to Mata Ragnya, believed to be the reincarnation of goddess Durga, the temple shrine has a sacred spring. Devotees believe that the colour of the spring water on the annual festival foretells the coming events of the year. Elders in Tullamulla town say that in 1947, when the tribal raiders invaded Kashmir, the colour of the spring water was dark black. Pink or milky colour are believed to be auspicious. Legend has it that, annoyed by the licentious deeds of Ravana, Mata Ragnya directed Hanuman to relocate her deity to Tullamulla town from Sri Lanka. Muslims of Tullamulla town serve milk in earthen pots to the Kashmiri Pandit devotees on their arrival at the temple shrine.

Foreign aid nod to Maharashtra: Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal slams Centre for unfair treatment
Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal has accused the Union government of bias in permitting Maharashtra to accept foreign aid for its Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF). Responding to the Centre's decision, Mr. Balagopal said here on Sunday that Kerala had been denied permission to accept aid from outside the country in the aftermath of the devastating 2018 floods. The Union government had denied permission despite the offers for assistance from abroad, he recalled. Mr. Balagopal said that Kerala was not against Maharashtra receiving foreign aid, but it was important that the Union government saw all States on an equal footing. Discrimination He said that it would not be surprising if Keralites felt that even in moments of great crisis, there was discrimination among States. 'Any State receiving aid in a crisis is a good thing. Giving permission to accept the aid is also a good thing. But the Centre's approach gives room for doubt that the decision is driven by political bias,' he said. Mr. Balagopal said it was quite unbecoming of administrators when politics became the yardstick and not the magnitude of disasters. Such approaches also failed to uphold federal principles, he said. The Kerala Finance Minister's remarks come close on the heels of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs granting the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA), 2010, registration to Maharashtra's CMDRF, thereby enabling it to receive foreign donations for 'social' programmes. No aid post-landslides Mr. Balagopal also recalled that, following the 2024 landslides in Wayanad, Kerala had expected Prime Minister Narendra Modi to announce assistance on two occasions—during his visit to the disaster sites and later when he dedicated the Vizhinjam port to the nation.
