New York Knicks coaches, teammates already souring on Karl-Anthony Towns
To do so, the Knicks sent out three-time All-Star Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo, and the 17th overall pick in exchange for KAT. In some respects, the move paid off in a big way, advancing to the Eastern Conference Finals after being eliminated in the semifinals last year.

However, according to James L. Edwards III and Fred Katz of The Athletic, coaches and players inside the Knicks organization quickly grew frustrated with Towns' defensive habits despite his scoring prowess.
'Publicly, Knicks players made veiled comments all season about poor communication causing their inconsistencies. Behind the scenes, they and coaches expressed frustration with Towns' defensive habits — less concerned with his talent level and more with his process on that end. Too often, Towns executed incorrect coverages without communicating why he did it. After it became a theme, players worried Towns didn't grasp the importance of the matter.'
The Athletic on Karl-Anthony Towns
It's fascinating to think that coaches later became frustrated with Towns' defense. After all, Tom Thibodeau already coached Towns for three seasons in Minnesota, when Knicks assistant Rick Brunson and Larry Greer were on hand too.
In other words, shouldn't the Knicks' coaching staff already have had a complete grasp of what Towns is and isn't capable of? It's not like he suddenly lost his athleticism or was bouncing back from a serious injury, and judging by his scoring numbers, Towns was healthy.
Perhaps all the Knicks need is more time, like an offseason to build chemistry and reinforce defensive tactics to get Towns in sync with the rest of the team. If not, there could be trouble afoot in New York.

New York Knicks Tabbed Landing Spot for Future Hall of Famer
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The New York Knicks made it all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals this past season, representing their longest playoff run in two-and-a-half decades. However, during their series loss to the Indiana Pacers, it was clear something was missing. The Knicks could definitely afford to add some depth, and given how close they just were to reaching the finals, they may be able to lure some veterans in search of a ring. More news: Houston Rockets' Striking Trade Slammed for Poor Optics That could include future Hall-of-Fame guard Russell Westbrook, who remains available in free agency with training camp creeping closer and closer. Bleacher Report's Andy Bailey envisions New York as a potential destination for Westbrook, noting that the Knicks already expressed interest in Westbrook last month. Head coach of Mike Brown of the New York Knicks speaks to media during his introductory press conference at Knicks Training Facility on July 08, 2025 in Tarrytown, New York. Photo by"Particularly in lineups with lots of shooting from Karl-Anthony Towns, Mikal Bridges and OG Anunoby, Westbrook's ability to get to the rim could be dangerous," Bailey wrote. "Russ himself would obviously benefit from time surrounded by so much shooting, too. It's tough for defenders to cheat off the three-point line when all those options are on the floor, which would certainly widen Russ' driving lanes." Westbrook spent the 2024-25 campaign with the Denver Nuggets, playing in 75 games and making 36 starts. During that time, he averaged 13.3 points, 6.1 assists, 4.9 rebounds and 1.4 steals over 27.9 minutes a night on 44.9/32.3/66.1 shooting splits. It actually represented his most efficient season since 2019-20. More news: Chicago Bulls Urged to Make No-Brainer Trade Involving Star Player Of course, Westbrook is an acquired taste. He is not the dynamic scoring threat he once was, and his tendency to shoot teams out of games could absolutely torpedo a team's championship hopes. But on the other side of the coin, his ability to score in bunches is inherently valuable. That being said, the Knicks kind of already have that in recent signing Jordan Clarkson, who Bailey mentioned in the article. Perhaps Westbrook would have been a better fit in the Big Apple had New York not already signed another high-volume scoring guard. First look at NASCAR's 2026 Cup Series schedule, from Daytona to Homestead
The 2026 NASCAR Cup Series schedule features a new race at a military base, a return to a track once thought lost to time, a new All-Star Race host and a new site for the championship finale, according to a copy obtained by The Athletic and confirmed via multiple sources briefed on the league's plans. Advertisement The 38-race season (36 points races and two non-points races) opens with the Clash exhibition on Feb. 1, 2026, followed by the Daytona 500 on Feb. 15 and concluding with the championship finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Nov. 8, 2026. Homestead returns as the host track for the championship for the first time since 2019, replacing Phoenix Raceway, which is now slotted elsewhere in the 10-race playoffs. NASCAR announced the switch this spring, beginning a rotation of its championship race to different tracks on an expected yearly basis. In addition to Homestead returning as the championship venue, the other three big changes to the 2026 schedule are a temporary street circuit constructed at Naval Base Coronado in San Diego, the return of Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Ill., after a six-year absenceO To make room for San Diego and Chicagoland, NASCAR won't return to Mexico City or the Chicago Street Course, a temporary circuit built in downtown Chicago that's held Cup races for the past three years. In June, Mexico City hosted the first international Cup points race since the 1950s, but logistics and finding a spot on the calendar that fit for both the city and NASCAR prevented an encore visit next year. NASCAR hopes to return to both Mexico City and Chicago in 2027. Other notable changes to the 2026 schedule include: Although some reports had Iowa Speedway at risk of being dropped, the short track is again on the schedule for a third consecutive year, slated for Aug. 9. There was never any consideration that Iowa would not have a date, according to sources briefed on NASCAR's thinking. Iowa has sold out each of the last two years and has strong sponsorship in place. NASCAR intends to release the 2026 Cup Series schedule this week. The full schedule below is the final version, according to those sources briefed on the league's plans. Bengals' Ja'Marr Chase beats Jalen Carter, Jayden Daniels on 25-and-under list
The post Bengals' Ja'Marr Chase beats Jalen Carter, Jayden Daniels on 25-and-under list appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Cincinnati Bengals are currently gearing up for the 2025 NFL season, in which they'll hope their defense isn't putrid enough to way down one of the most talented offenses in the NFL. That offense is led by quarterback Joe Burrow and wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase, who has established himself as one of the very best at his position over the years. Recently, The Athletic released their annual list of the best 25 players under the age of 25, and Chase was ranked number one, ahead of Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter and Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels. 'One of the top two or three most dominant receivers in the game, Chase led the league with 1,708 receiving yards and 17 receiving touchdowns and has eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark in each of his four NFL seasons. He's also a four-time Pro Bowl selection and took home first-team All-Pro honors last season,' noted Mike Jones in his write-up of Chase's spot for The Athletic. A dominant player for the Bengals At the current moment, most fans seem to agree that Chase is in a two-man race with his former LSU Tigers teammate Justin Jefferson, now a star for the Minnesota Vikings, for the title of the best wide receiver in the league. Chase shook off a shaky start last year to once again establish himself as a force for the Bengals offense, and he and his Cincinnati teammates will look to hit the ground running in 2025, something they have been unable to do in years past. Chase's combination of speed, strength, hands, and route-running ability has made him a nightmare for opposing defenses dating back to the 2021-22 season, in which the Bengals made a Super Bowl appearance thanks in large part to his brilliance. The Bengals haven't been able to recapture that magic in the years since, but with Chase and Burrow leading the charge, nothing is off the table. Cincinnati will begin its 2025 season on the road against the Cleveland Browns on September 7 at 1:00 PM ET.
