With the development work of setting up a new party headquarter for the Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) nearing completion, the party is eyeing to inaugurate and shift to its new office in the later half of September, around the period of Navratri, party leaders familiar with the matter said. The new office is also closer to the national headquarters. (AFP) The main building and the approach road leading to the headquarters from Deendayal Upadhyay (DDU) Marg have been completed. The interior work, room partitions and electrical work is being carried out, party functionaries said. 'The current period is considered inauspicious for inaugurations of new projects. Several leaders are of the opinion that the move from the old office to the new office should be made during Navratri. We are hoping to complete the finishing work before Navratris,' a senior party leader said. Sharad Navratri will be celebrated from September 22 to October 1. This nine-day festival will conclude with Dussehra on October 2. The new five-storey building, which is painted yellow-saffron, is on DDU Marg — just down the road from the BJP's national headquarters — and it is inspired from South Indian temple architecture, the functionaries said. The party's Delhi unit currently functions from a bungalow on Pant Marg, near the Parliament complex. Officials said that the current office has very limited space and several portacabins have been set up to accommodate offices. As the party has expanded, the need for space has increased multifold, they said. The new office is also closer to the national headquarters, the BJP leader quoted above said. During a spot check on Monday, HT found that the work on the core building is complete and workers were busy giving finishing touches on the first two floors and adding room partitions and false ceilings on upper floors. The generator set and solar powered panels as well as most of the flooring and painting have been completed. Another BJP leader said that the new building, spread over an area of 825 sqm, boasts of two basements that can accommodate 50 vehicles. 'The ground floor will have a press conference room to hold press meets, along with a grand reception area, and a canteen. The first floor will have an auditorium with a capacity of around 300 people,' the leader said, on condition of anonymity. The second and third floors of the building will have the offices of state general secretaries, secretaries and vice-presidents, while the top floor will house the offices of the Delhi BJP in-charge, the state president, and the organisational general secretary. BJP national president JP Nadda laid the foundation stone for the DDU Marg office in June 2023. This will be the third site from which the Delhi BJP will operate. The party earlier used to operate from a building near Ajmeri Gate, before being relocated to the Pant Marg bungalow in 1989. A party leader said that another advantage of the new office will be that the new building has its proximity to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) headquarters where the BJP is in power, the national headquarters and the Delhi secretariat, which is only 2km away.

Govt approves Rs 6,478 crore road devpt programme
Hyderabad: In a significant move aimed at strengthening rural connectivity and regional infrastructure, the Telangana government has approved a Rs 6,478 crore road development programme, to be executed under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM). Announcing the initiative, Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy stated that the project marks a major step in the state's push for balanced development. 'Good roads are more than just infrastructure — they are the foundation for economic growth and regional equality. This initiative will connect every village to its mandal and every mandal to its district headquarters with high-quality roads,' the Minister emphasised. As part of Phase-1, works will commence across 17 packages, encompassing 373 roads with a total length of 5,190 km. Tenders have already been floated, and construction is anticipated to begin shortly. The comprehensive plan envisions blacktop roads linking all villages to mandal centres, and double-lane roads connecting mandals to district headquarters. This is expected to drastically improve transportation, access to essential services, and local mobility across the state. Minister Venkat Reddy expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for his swift approval of the plan, reiterating that infrastructure development remains a core priority for the government. He also acknowledged and appreciated the diligent efforts of senior officials from the Roads and Buildings Department and Special Chief Secretary Vikas Raj, who supervised multiple field visits and were instrumental in preparing a detailed project report. 'This government believes in growth that reaches the grassroots. With HAM, we are not just laying roads — we're laying the path to Telangana's future,' the Minister added. The government has positioned this extensive road programme as part of a broader commitment to deliver both welfare and development, maintaining a strong focus on long-term transformation rather than merely short-term fixes.

Learn from Ram's exile, recite Ramcharitmanas: MP Police to homesick recruits
Amid a surge in requests from police recruits to shift them to training centres closer home, the Madhya Pradesh Police plans to start Ramcharitmanas sessions every evening, in the hope that Lord Ram's 14-year exile can offer a lesson or two. The new batch of recruits began their training this week in eight police training schools (PTS) across the state. Officials said they will be asked to recite at least two chapters of Ramcharitmanas daily before sleeping to stave off homesickness. ADG (training) Raja Babu Singh told The Indian Express, 'I have been receiving applications from new recruits asking for a change of their PTS closer to home. But this mindset is counterproductive. If officers are trained only near their homes, how will they ever adapt to postings in challenging regions like those affected by Naxal insurgency?' Drawing parallels with Lord Ram's exile, Singh apprised senior officers that the idea of staying away from home is not new to Indian tradition. 'Lord Ram did not return to Ayodhya for 14 years. During that time, he learned to live in the forest, built an army, and overcame hardship. If we want to teach our recruits lessons, they will have to be from our local culture, which they can relate to,' he said. According to the MP police, 300 fresh recruits have applied for transfer to a PTS near their home district. Senior officials said that if even a few are allowed, 'the floodgates for the transfer will open up'. Currently, 4,000 recruits are set to undergo the nine-month basic course training. The Ramcharitmanas sessions will be conducted by the head of the barracks every evening. This is not the first time Rajababu Singh has drawn on spiritual and cultural traditions in policing. Known for his earlier 'Gita Gyan' awareness campaign while serving as ADG of Gwalior zone, Singh had distributed copies in jails during Dussehra. The MP police have also moved to promote regional identity and pride, with every PTS required to introduce local folk martial arts and dances. 'There are also training schools where martial arts like Kalaripayattu are taught; we are going to make a list of all Indian martial arts forms and teach them to the recruits,' Singh said. Commando drills such as frog jumps, monkey walks, duck walks, and inchworm walks have also been integrated to simulate combat readiness using the body's natural movement, officials said.
