7 places in India where monsoon is pure magic

Time of India3 days ago
While most of us from the cities see monsoon as a mood-killer complete with potholes, chai-craving, and umbrella drama, India has a few secret (and not-so-secret) places where the rains don't just fall, they turn them beautiful.
These are places where you see and feel the cloudy ambience, the greens turn greener, and every raindrop plays their part for that matter. So, here are some places where the monsoon isn't a nuisance, it's the main attraction.
Cherrapunji, Meghalaya
Cherrapunji is beautiful, and during monsoons, it becomes more beautiful. With clouds hugging limestone cliffs, waterfalls that suddenly multiply, and root bridges that glisten with mossy charm, this place turns into magic during this time.
Pack a raincoat, and not a plan.

Valley of Flowers, Uttarakhand
This high-altitude Himalayan valley opens its gates to the public during monsoon. Over 500 species of wildflowers carpet the valley like a psychedelic dream. You should plan a visit to this place at least once in your lifetime.
Coorg, Karnataka
Monsoon in Coorg is when the mist plays hide and seek with the hills, waterfalls crash, and the air smells like roasted coffee beans and wet earth. The roads are a little slippery, sure, so keep that thing in mind.

Malshej Ghat, Maharashtra
Located a few hours from Mumbai and Pune, Malshej Gut transforms into a green wonderland during monsoon, with waterfalls literally falling from every ledge. Flamingos turn up, clouds roll in, and the vibe is undeniably cinematic.
Wayanad, Kerala
When the monsoon hits Wayanad, the forests shimmer, and the lakes mirror stormy skies. You'll find elephants (if lucky), pepper plantations, and waterfalls that make you believe in gravity.
Goa (the non-party edition)
Forget beach raves and overpriced cocktails. Goa in monsoon is a whole different vibe. The beaches are empty, the Chapora fort is moody, the spice plantations are buzzing, and the monsoon vibes come with thunderous applause. It's the best time to see the other side of Goa, which is slow, soulful, and gloriously green.

Agumbe, Karnataka
Agumbe isn't called the 'Cherrapunji of the South' for nothing, it pours heavy. Come monsoon, its rainforests go full emerald-mode, with waterfalls roaring, and mist wrapping the trees like nature's own mystery. It's a dream for herpetologists and hardcore nature nerds, but if you're the kind who prefers dry socks and paved roads, you might want to sit this one out.

Vaishno Devi-bound Jammu Mail generates record Rs 26cr revenue

Prayagraj: The Jammu Mail (train No. 20433), which runs from Subedarganj in Prayagraj to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, has achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the highest revenue-generating train of the North Central Railway (NCR) in just 10 months of operation. According to official data from Jan to June 2025, the Jammu Mail generated a record-breaking revenue of Rs 26.36 crore, becoming the top-earning train under the North Central Railway's jurisdiction. This marks a shift from last year, when the Khajuraho-Udaipur Express held the top spot, but now ranks second. Despite a strong performance, it earned Rs 20.43 crore during the same six-month period. The Prayagraj–Dr Ambedkar Nagar Express (train No. 14116) continued to maintain its third position with Rs 20.23 crore earning, showing a steady demand among passengers. This development marks a shift in the trend, as the Khajuraho-Udaipur Express previously replaced the long-reigning Prayagraj Express from the top spot. However, with the growing number of devotees travelling to Vaishno Devi shrine, the Jammu Mail rapidly gained popularity and financial success. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Struggling With Belly Fat? Dhami meets PM, seeks Rs 3.5k crore aid for Kumbh 2027

Dehradun: Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Monday and sought financial assistance of Rs 3,500 crore for preparations for the Mahakumbh to be held in Haridwar in 2027. Dhami informed the PM that initial preparations for the Mahakumbh have already begun. For its successful organisation, key infrastructure upgrades are required, including the repair of bridges, expansion of parking facilities, improvements in electricity and water supply, construction of toilets, transportation networks and pedestrian pathways for pilgrims. The CM also invited Modi to attend the Nanda Raj Jat Yatra, a pilgrimage scheduled for Aug 2026, and sought Rs 400 crore in central assistance for its organisation. Seeking support for religious tourism and infrastructure development, Dhami urged the PM to direct relevant ministries to support the Haridwar Ganga Corridor, Rishikesh Ganga Corridor and Sharda Corridor in Champawat, on the lines of the Kedarnath and Badrinath Dham master plans. He also proposed that funding for these projects could be mobilised through corporate social responsibility (CSR) contributions. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esta nueva alarma con cámara es casi regalada en Bahía Blanca (ver precio) Verisure Más información Undo Highlighting the state's long-term water security efforts, the CM said, "A preliminary proposal for the Pindar-Kosi link project has been prepared. The project aims to connect the glacier-fed Pindar River to the rain-fed Kosi, Gagas, Gomti and Garud rivers. If implemented, it could benefit around two lakh people across 625 villages in Bageshwar, Almora and Nainital districts by improving irrigation and drinking water availability. Additionally, towns such as Garud, Kausani, Dwarahat, Ranikhet, and Almora would see an improved water supply for over 1.25 lakh residents." Dhami requested that the project be brought under a special Union govt scheme. In a bid to boost industrial development, the CM proposed converting the Nepa Farm area in Udham Singh Nagar into a semiconductor manufacturing hub. He requested the PM's support in attracting industry investments for the same. Dhami also called for the extension of the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) from Delhi-Meerut up to Haridwar. He urged the inclusion of new route provisions under the Tanakpur-Bageshwar and Rishikesh-Uttarkashi rail projects. In the power sector, the CM sought the approval of a Rs 1,015 crore detailed project report (DPR) under the revamped distribution sector scheme (RDSS). The project proposes undergrounding of high-tension (HT) and low-tension (LT) power lines and automation of the power system in Rishikesh and Haridwar. The CM also apprised Modi about the state govt's efforts to restore Chaurasi Kutiya, the heritage site near Rishikesh associated with the Beatles' visit in 1968, to its original form. He said funding arrangements have been made and sought clearance from the National Board for Wildlife. Additionally, Dhami requested early approval for five hydropower projects with a total generation capacity of 596 MW, based on the recommendations of a committee headed by the cabinet secretary.

RoRo ferries on Chorao-Ribandar route reduce travel time from 15min to 5 mins

Panaji: Two RoRo (roll on/roll off) ferries, Gangotri and Dwarka, were launched on the Chorao–Ribandar route on Monday. The ferries will operate on a PPP basis, said chief minister Pramod Sawant during the launch. 'These vessels will cut travel time from 15 minutes to just five minutes,' he said. 'With air-conditioned facilities for pedestrians, zero-emission features, and their capacity to carry an additional 15-16 vehicles compared to regular ferries, most of the commuters waiting to travel will be accommodated aboard the vessel. Ambulances that used to have additional waiting time due to the limitations of the regular ferries will no longer have to suffer,' he said. Sawant added that more RoRo services will be introduced on other river routes to strengthen waterway transport and promote tourism. 'This RoRo is an epitome of Make in India and Made in Goa. We plan to replicate this successful project across the state,' Sawant added. Sharing his thoughts on the decision to no tify fares for commuters travelling on this route, Sawant said, 'The ferry services operate on a 100% basis because the rides are free for pedestrians. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Live Update: The Strategy Uses By Successful Intraday Trader TradeWise Learn More Undo When we give the public an upgrade in its facilities, they must contribute by paying the fare. We also have a concessional pass system for those who find the daily fares exorbitant,' Sawant said. The launch was also attended by MP Shripad Naik and the minister for river navigation, Subhash Phal Dessai. Naik said that Gangotri and Dwarka are not 'outsider' names. 'Both names are inspired by Indian culture, there is no insider and outsider about this. Someone who makes an issue about it cannot be considered Indian,' he said. He was reacting to GPCC president Amit Patkar's claim that these names are non-Indian. Phal Desai said that it was his decision to name them and also said that these are two pure names that are associated with water bodies, which is why they have been named so. 'One need not politicise something like this,' he said.
