PK-Chirag deal? Pappu Yadav 'connects dots'; asks Prashant Kishore to name CM face
Pappu Yadav
on Sunday claimed that Jan Suraaj founder
Prashant Kishore
and the Union minister have joined hands for the upcoming assembly elections in the state.
While talking to reporters, Purnia MP advised Kishore to declare Chirag as the chief ministerial face from his side.
"Chirag ji and Prashant ji have become one. I feel that Prashant ji should have already declared Chirag ji as the chief minister," Pappu Yadav said.
"Prashant Kishore is a troubled souled and only a person from Dalit or EBC community can become CM. And Chirag ji — there as well as here — how will things work like this? I would suggest leave that side and come here," he added.
This comes after Chirag expressed anguish over the deteriorating law and order after a series of disturbing crimes in Bihar.
"I feel ashamed that I am supporting a government where crime has become uncontrolled," Chirag said.
"The way crime is happening in Bihar, the administration has totally bowed down in front of the criminals. It is correct that this incident required condemnation, but why such incidents are happening? There is a series of crimes.

If it continues like this, the situation would be frightening, rather, it has become so," he added.
Earlier, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav also took a swipe at Chirag Paswan, accusing him of having a "lust for power" and portraying himself powerless.
"There's complete criminal disorder; the concept of law and order has collapsed. Chirag Paswan is raising these issues, but he himself is part of the same government. He's a powerful Union minister, and his party has 5 MPs.
Then why is he acting so helpless?" Tejashwi asked.
"On one hand, he is criticising his own government, and on the other, he's portraying himself as powerless. If you really believe crime has surged in Bihar, if rapes are happening, if corruption is rampant—then why are you still in that alliance? Because you love your position. You've become so weak that despite being in power, you're unable to act," he added.
Meanwhile, Chirag's remarks have triggered sharp reactions from alliance partners, while the BJP has chosen to remain silent.
Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) leader and Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi responded swiftly, branding Chirag Paswan as "politically immature".
'Chirag's politics is still in its infancy. His father, Ram Vilas Paswan, had a towering political stature. Chirag lacks experience and is speaking without full knowledge,' Manjhi said.
He further countered Chirag Paswan's claims on law and order, asserting that the current situation is far better than pre-2005 Bihar.
'At that time, criminals could walk into the CM's residence with impunity. Negotiations over kidnapping were taking place from the CM residence before 2005. Today, there is accountability. No one can enter 1 Anne Marg, the residence of the Chief Minister now,' Manjhi added.

Blueprint to tackle Maoists in Rourkela
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police chalked out a 'blueprint' to enhance security measures in Rourkela police district to deal with Maoists, a senior officer said on Tuesday. The measure comes after suspected Maoists carried out three improvised explosive device (IED) blasts on railway tracks along the Odisha-Jharkhand border on Saturday and Sunday, police said. The two blasts, which caused damage to the tracks, occurred at separate locations, one in Odisha and another in Jharkhand. In one of the blasts that took place on the tracks in K Nuagaon police station area in Sundargarh district, a railway personnel was killed and another was injured. The Sundargarh revenue district has two police districts -- Sundargarh and Rourkela. ADG (anti-Naxal operations) Sanjeeb Panda, who visited the incident sites and held discussions with the local police officers, said there had earlier been no Maoist-related incident in Rourkela police district in the last seven years. The last Maoist incident in the police district was reported in 2018, he said. 'However, Maoist activities resurfaced recently in the district. So, we have decided to revise our response. We have chalked out a blueprint to deal with the Maoists,' Panda told reporters in Rourkela on Tuesday. The blueprint was prepared in accordance with the target set by the Union Home Minister for eradicating Maoism by March 2026, he said. 'We will strengthen our security infrastructure in the district. We will set up new security camps, deploy additional Special Operations Group (SOG) teams and strengthen our intelligence network. We strongly believe that we will succeed in our motto,' the Odisha Police ADG said. Pamda said the Maoists have a presence in Saranda forest in Jharkhand, from where they come to Odisha sometimes. To deal with them, Odisha Police, in coordination with their counterparts in Jharkhand, will conduct joint anti-Maoist operations in the area, he said. Commenting on security arrangements at railway tracks, he said, 'Our bomb disposal squad has cleared the tracks on the Odisha side.'

SC to hear plea on J&K statehood on August 8
NEW DELHI The Supreme Court will take up on Friday an application seeking restoration of statehood for Jammu and Kashmir in a timebound manner. On Tuesday, the application was mentioned by senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan appearing for the two applicants, academic Zahoor Ahmad Bhat and social activist Khurshaid Ahmad Malik. (Getty Images/iStockphoto) The hearing in the top court came amid speculation of possible restoration of statehood to J&K after a tweet posted by chief minister Omar Abdullah on Monday sharing his 'gut feeling' that he is 'optimistic' about 'something positive' for the Union territory during Parliament's ongoing monsoon session. On August 5, 2019 the state was bifurcated into two Union territories following the abrogation of Article 370 by Parliament. On Tuesday, the application was mentioned by senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan appearing for the two applicants, academic Zahoor Ahmad Bhat and social activist Khurshaid Ahmad Malik, who had in October 2024 approached the top court to consider restoration of statehood within a specific time frame, preferably within two months. Appearing before a bench headed by chief justice of India (CJI) Bhushan R Gavai, the senior advocate said that the matter is showing on the list of business for August 8 and requested that the same should not be deleted. The CJI allowed the request by passing a short order, 'Not to be deleted'. A five-judge Constitution bench of the top court had on December 11, 2023 unanimously upheld the revocation of Article 370 and directed state elections to be conducted by September 2024. The application has been filed in the previously concluded 'In Re: Article 370 of the Constitution' case. Following elections held in three phases from September 18 to October 1 last year, a new government was formed by the National Conference-Congress alliance. National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah was sworn in as chief minister. The verdict by the Constitution bench called the abrogation the 'culmination of the process of integration' of the erstwhile state into the Union of India. It held the abrogation to be a perfectly valid exercise of power by the President, ruling that Article 370 was always meant to be a temporary provision. However, on the issue of restoration of statehood, the court chose not to give a ruling on whether the reorganisation of the state into two Union territories was constitutionally permissible. It pointed to the Centre's statement that statehood of J&K would be restored eventually. The judgment emphasised that the same should be done 'at the earliest'. The application filed through advocate Soyaib Qureshi said, 'The non-restoration of the status of statehood of Jammu & Kashmir in a timebound manner violates the idea of federalism which forms a part of the basic structure of the Constitution of India.' It further stated that the prolonged Union territory status is unwarranted and calls for prompt action in accordance with the assurance given by the Centre in earlier proceedings.

South Korean prosecutors question ex-first lady accused of graft
South Korean former first lady Kim Keon Hee (AP) SEOUL: South Korean prosecutors questioned former first lady Kim Keon Hee on Wednesday over a litany of allegations, including stock manipulation and bribery. The questioning comes as her husband, former president Yoon Suk Yeol, remains in detention over his declaration of martial law in December, which briefly suspended civilian rule before being overturned by parliament. Prosecutors are expected to seek an arrest warrant for Kim following Wednesday's interrogation, which they said began shortly after 10:00 am (0100 GMT). If granted, the warrant would mark the first time in South Korean history that a former president and first lady were both arrested. Kim is accused of colluding with traders to inflate the share price of a company between 2009 and 2012. She also allegedly accepted luxury gifts, including a $2,200 designer handbag, in violation of anti-graft laws. "I sincerely apologise for causing trouble despite being a person of no importance. I will cooperate fully with the investigation," Kim said before entering the special prosecutor's office in Seoul. Kim's questioning drew significant media attention, with local journalists following the vehicle she was in as it made its way to the prosecutors' office on Wednesday. Supporters of Kim and Yoon gathered outside the office, waving national flags and holding signs that read "Investigators must be fair". by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Treatment That Might Help You Against Knee Pain (Search Here) Kneepain | Search Search Now Undo Controversy has long surrounded the 52-year-old with lingering questions about her alleged role in stock manipulation. A video filmed in 2022 showing her accepting a Dior handbag from a self-proclaimed fan reignited public criticism. She is also accused of interfering in the nomination process for MPs in Yoon's party, in violation of election laws. Yoon, as president, vetoed three special investigation bills passed by the opposition-controlled parliament that sought to probe the allegations against Kim, with the last veto issued in late November. A week later, Yoon declared martial law. He had claimed the bills were "political propaganda". Yoon, a former top prosecutor, was impeached and removed from office in April over his martial law declaration, prompting the country to hold a snap election in June.
