British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will host German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Sunday at his Chequers country residence, Starmer's spokesperson said on Friday, weeks before a national election is due to take place in Germany.
The two leaders are expected to discuss issues around Ukraine and the Middle East, the spokesperson said.
Scholz's party, the center-left Social Democrats, is tipped to come third in the Feb. 23 general election, according to the latest poll published by INSA on Jan. 25.

US gave regional allies heads up on Israel's planned attack on Iran
The U.S. State Department informed a number of regional allies in the Middle East of Israel's looming strike on Iran hours before the attack took place, three sources familiar with the matter said on Friday. In a diplomatic note sent out Thursday afternoon, the State Department confirmed that the Israeli attack was set to take place late on Thursday. Qatar was among the countries which received the heads up. Washington was not involved in Israel's operation and was not providing any support, the note said, adding that President Donald Trump has been very clear on his desire for peace in the region but at the same time has been firm that Tehran cannot be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons. The State Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Reuters

It is unclear whether Iran still has a nuclear program, Trump tells Reuters
U.S. President Donald Trump is not concerned about regional war breaking out in the Middle East, he told Reuters in a phone interview. The U.S. 'knew everything" about Israel's strike on Iran, he said, adding "I tried to save Iran's humiliation and death." Trump also told Reuters that it is not too late for Iran to make a deal. The U.S. still has a meeting planned with Iran officials on Sunday, he said, but he is not sure it will take place. Trump also told Reuters that it was unclear whether Iran still has a nuclear program following the Israeli strikes on the country. Reuters
