Sky fall short to Mystics for 6th straight loss
Brittney Sykes supported the two All-Star rookies with 18 points for the Mystics (13-13) and the reserves outscored their counterparts 21-7. Iriafen also had 10 rebounds for her eighth double-double.
Angel Reese, who missed the previous two games with back issues, had 22 points and 13 rebounds. Kamilla Cardoso had 21 points and 10 boards for the Sky (7-19). Rachel Banham added 19 points.
Washington led by 19 points in the third quarter and was ahead 80-65 entering the fourth. The Sky cut the deficit to eight with 3:22 to play, but Jade Melbourne and Citron sandwiched three-point plays around Iriafen's basket to make it 100-84.
Washington shot 51% with 10 3-pointers.
Citron scored the last seven Washington points in the first quarter, giving her 12 points and the Mystics 30-27 lead.
Sykes scored twice inside and Lucy Olsen's 3 capped a 9-2 run for a 39-21 lead, the biggest of the half. Chicago got back within one but the Mystics surged ahead again and led 55-47 at the break. Washington shot 59%, 6 of 13 from long range with 16 assists on 20 baskets.

Seattle Seahawks offensive tackle Charles Cross recently underwent surgery on a dislocated ring finger on his right hand. It was a bit of a surprise, but the instant indication was that Cross would be ready for Week 1 against the San Francisco 49ers. The latest update delivered more positive news regarding his status. Cross returned to Seahawks practice during Monday's training camp session, according to various local reports. The former Mississippi State standout was seen doing individual work. Cross' three fingers were heavily wrapped together, and he did not participate in any physical team drills. The Seahawks' regular-season opener versus the San Francisco 49ers at Lumen Field is more than a month away. That offers Cross ample time to get healthy. His limited participation at practice indicates he's on the right track. New offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is working to improve the offensive line. Cross is undeniably the standout staple of an in-progress unit. Rookie left guard Grey Zabel is fortunate to have Cross playing on the same side as him. What should the Nets focus on heading into the 2025-26 NBA season?
The Brooklyn Nets finished the 2024-25 NBA season with a 26-56 record, ultimately getting them the eighth overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft to begin their latest rebuild. Brooklyn broke the league record by taking five players in the Draft and it seems that the foundation is being laid down. Pundits believe that the Nets should remain focused on the rebuild. ESPN's Tim Bontemps and Kevin Pelton put together a list of which each team in the NBA should be "all-in" on ahead of the 2025-26 season and the Nets were put into the "draft positioning" category. Brooklyn isn't the only team in the tier as they share the category with the Charlotte Hornets, Utah Jazz, and Washington Wizards as all of the teams are understandably focused on the future. "These were four of the NBA's bottom six teams in the standings last season, and they have the four lowest over/under totals for the 2025-26 season at ESPN BET," the ESPN duo wrote when describing why each team was in the category. "Still, all of these teams are probably at least a season away from competing for a playoff spot, and they'd love to add another top pick first." As this relates to the Nets, this statement rings true in the sense that Brooklyn does not yet have a player on the roster that is currently considered to be an All-Star at some point in their career. The Nets will enter the 2025-26 season as one of the youngest teams in the league due to the amount of youth on the roster, but the hope is that guard Egor Demin, who was taken eighth overall by Brooklyn, can realize his potential sooner rather than later. As of this writing, BetMGM gives the Nets an over/under of 20.5 wins over the course of the 2025-26 regular season, meaning that the Las Vegas betting market could be expecting another tough season for Brooklyn. With the 2026 NBA Draft expected to boast premium talent such as AJ Dybantsa and Darryn Peterson, the Nets could be best served to keep the future in the forefront of their mind.
