Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy: ‘Were they not invited?' – Sunil Gavaskar on Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson missing from presentation
Legendary India cricketer
Sunil Gavaskar
has slammed the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for not inviting James Anderson and
Sachin Tendulkar
to the presentation ceremony of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
'This was the first-ever series named after Sachin Tendulkar and Jimmy Anderson, two of cricket's greatest legends. One would have expected both to be present to hand over the trophy to the two captains, especially since the series ended in a draw,' Gavaskar wrote in his column for Sportstar.

He also recalled a similar incident earlier this year in Australia, where he was excluded from the Border-Gavaskar Trophy presentation ceremony, with only Allan Border present at the conclusion.
The explanation given at the time was that Australia had won the series, hence only their namesake was included.
'To the best of one's knowledge, both were in England at the time. So, were they simply not invited? Or was this similar to what happened in Australia earlier this year, when only Allan Border was asked to present the Border-Gavaskar Trophy because Australia had won the series? Since this England series was drawn, perhaps neither was asked to attend the presentation,' he said.

Gavaskar also criticised the practice of awarding the newly introduced Pataudi Medal to the series-winning captain instead of the Player of the Series.
Poll
Do you agree with Sunil Gavaskar's criticism of the ECB for not inviting Anderson and Tendulkar?
Yes, they should have been invited
No, it was not necessary
Not sure
I don't follow cricket
'Mostly around the world, administrators are brought in to ensure profits and are quite good at it, but they may not have much knowledge about the history of the sport they are presiding over. So, these little gestures are not part of their scheme of things.
Nobody from the Pataudi family was there either, for the Pataudi Medal, which was presented to the winning team's captain.
The drawn series showed how flawed the idea was of trying to make amends to the Pataudis by retiring the trophy named after them. Every time the series is drawn, the medal can't be presented, can it? Wouldn't it be better, therefore, to award the medal to the Player of the Series rather than the winning captain? And what if the captain himself has had an ordinary series and made little impact on the result?' Gavaskar said.

‘Rohit Sharma wouldn't have been in XI without captaincy': Irfan Pathan says he was compelled to support star batter in Sydney Test interview
Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan did not mince words as he said that Rohit Sharma would have struggled to make the Test XI in the second-half of the 2024 calendar year without the captaincy tag. Recalling Rohit's decision to opt out of the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Sydney in January this year after averaging an abysmally low 6.20 across three matches on the tour, Pathan said that he was compelled to support his ex-India teammate in an interview during the match. 'Rohit Sharma is an amazing player in white-ball cricket, but his average in Test cricket that year was 6, so we said that if he was not the captain, he would not have had a place in the team, and this is true,' Pathan said in a teaser video released by Lallantop on Wednesday. 'It was difficult for me to take this decision but if everything is put in front of us, then this decision was sensible, and I will not think too much ahead. What the team needed at this time, this was the only thought, and there was no other thought apart from that,' Rohit added. 'People say that we supported Rohit Sharma more than necessary. Of course, when someone comes to interview on your broadcasting channel, you will not misbehave with them, right? You have invited him, so you will behave politely. When Rohit came to interview, we were, of course, polite, and we had to show that, because he was our guest. So that was connected and said we were supporting him, but it was we who said…we had said that he should keep fighting, but that said, he should not have had a place in the playing XI. If he was not the captain of the team, he would have been dropped,' Pathan said. Rohit returned to form in white-ball cricket and led India to the Champions Trophy title in March before calling it quits from the longest format in May during the IPL 2025 season.

NBA Green Lights Sale Of Boston Celtics To Bill Chisholm-Led Group
Last Updated: American Bill Chisholm, the MD and co-founder of Symphony Technology Group, and his co-investors agreed to purchase the Celtics at an initial valuation of $6.1 billion. The NBA approved the sale of the side Boston Celtics to an investment group led by Bill Chisholm on Wednesday, five months after the deal worth a then-record $6.1 billion, was agreed. Chisholm, the managing director and co-founder of Symphony Technology Group, and his co-investors agreed to purchase the Celtics franchise at an initial valuation of $6.1 billion, which was the highest ever offered for a North American sports team. 'The NBA Board of Governors has unanimously approved the sale of the controlling interests in the Boston Celtics to an investor group led by Bill Chisholm," the league said in a statement. 'The transaction is expected to close shortly," the statement added. However, the record has since been surpassed by the sale of Los Angeles Lakers in June to the tune of $10 billion by the Buss family to billionaire Mark Walter. When the sale of the Celtics was announced, it was stated that Wyc Grousbeck would continue in his roles as chief executive officer and governor, overseeing team operations through the 2027-28 season. The Grousbeck family and Steve Pagliuca purchased the Celtics for $360 million in 2002. However, US media reported this week that Chisholm, a Massachusetts native who describes himself as a 'die-hard Celtics fan," will assume the role of governor because, under the terms of the deal, Grousbeck will no longer have the required 15% ownership stake that the league mandates for that position. Despite this, reports indicated that Chisholm and Grousbeck plan to run the team together as originally intended. The Celtics are one of the most storied franchises in NBA history, with a record 18 championships, the most recent in 2024. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. 'I'll cherish it forever' – Shubman Gill reflects after ICC player of the month award
India's player of the series India's captain Shubman Gill (AP Photo/Kirsty Wigglesworth) Shubman Gill said being named ICC Men's Player of the Month for July carried extra meaning as it came during his first Test series as India's captain. Reflecting on the award, Gill said, 'It feels great to be named the ICC Player of the Month for July. This time it holds a lot more significance since it has come for my performances during my first Test series as captain. The double ton in Birmingham is obviously something I'll cherish forever and will be one of the highlights of my tour to England.' Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Gill's numbers backed up his words. He was the standout performer in the Anderson Tendulkar Trophy, scoring 754 runs in 10 innings at an average of 75.40. July alone brought him 567 runs in three Tests at an average of 94.50, including three centuries and a career-best 269 at Edgbaston. That innings was not only a personal milestone but also the spark for India's comeback after losing the series opener in Leeds. Poll Do you believe Shubman Gill will continue to excel as India's captain in future series? Yes, definitely Probably Uncertain No, I don't think so His 430-run aggregate in Birmingham is one of the highest in Test history and the best by any visiting batter in England. Along the way, Gill surpassed Sunil Gavaskar 's record for most runs in a Test series as Indian captain and became the first Asian to score more than 700 runs in a series on English soil. While he had lean patches at Lord's and The Oval, his earlier contributions ensured India finished the series 2-2. The award is Gill's fourth, cementing his status as one of the game's most consistent and impactful players. Catch Rani Rampal's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 4. Watch Here!
