National Pet Day: Spirited spaniel ecstatic to be back with owner
After quarantining for 30 days when they moved to Australia, Hannah Barker and her beloved spaniel ecstatically reunite.
National Pet Day on April 11 celebrates the family members who are often the most excited to see us walk through the door.
The day not only celebrates our best pals but also reminds those who'd like to own a pet that your local animal shelter will likely have many animals looking for a forever home.
Hannah Barker and her partner recently moved from the UK to Australia. Their one-year-old spaniel, Deji, made the more than 10,000-mile journey with them. However, his trip took much longer than theirs.
According to the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Australia is free of many cat and dog diseases. Because of that, any pet that enters the country must be quarantined.
'We first dropped Deji off with Pets Abroad UK on February 3, where he took the long journey to Melbourne, Australia,' Barker said. 'He was placed in quarantine there for 30 days. He then flew to Cairns to us, where we collected him.'
Deji could barely contain his excitement when he sensed his family was there to pick him up after a month apart. And, judging by the reaction of Hannah and her partner, the feeling was mutual!
Watch this ecstatic dog and his owners reunite after 30 days apart.

Service dog brothers reunite in Hawaii after 4 years apart
HONOLULU (KHON2) — Two working dogs trained to help in very different ways just experienced a heartwarming reunion four years in the making. Download the free KHON2 app for iOS or Android to stay informed on the latest news It turns out they are more than just furry professionals, they are family. Mikey is all business on the job, serving as a facility dog at Queen's Medical Center to provide comfort to patients and staff — but this visit was different. It started with a scroll through Instagram, where Dr. Rick Bruno's daughter saw a labrador retriever that looked a lot like Mikey. Hawaii shelters overflowing amid lack of donations 'And then through a little sleuthing, my daughter figured out they had the same birthday and reached out to Matthew and Paul,' said Dr. Bruno, Queen's Facility Dogs executive sponsor. That other Labrador is Mr. Maple. He lives in Washington State where he serves as a guide dog for Paul, who is visually turned out that the two dogs share more than a similar look. 'And, my daughter figured out that the, initials most litters have the same first initial. And so Mikey and Maple were part of an 'M' litter,' Dr. Bruno said. They got in touch with Matthew and Paul and decided to meet up in Maple and his handlers made the trip to Honolulu and the reunion took place right at Mikey's workplace. They hadn't been together in four years. Best things to buy your favorite child (your dog) on National Pet Day 'Both of them are very professional in their work. And so it was really fun to be able to take off both of their working jackets and just let them naturally reunite,' said Katie Julian, Assistance Dogs of Hawaii Oahu program manager. Despite being trained professionals separated by an ocean and four years time, the brothers knew exactly who they were looking at. 'They're trained actually to ignore distractions and ignore other dogs, but they just immediately, like, went towards each other and went in circles, waggy tails, it was great,' Julian said. From across the Pacific, two dogs dedicated to serving humans found each other again. 'I am super inspired and would definitely love to get, you know, other litter mates together for sure,' said Julian. Kensington Palace Just Posted a Striking Photo of Kate Middleton and a Major Announcement Video from Prince William
It's hard to believe it's been a whole month since Prince William and Kate Middleton last gave us a recap of all they've been up to. But here we are at the start of May, and the royal couple just dropped their monthly royal rewind (a reminder of all the Kensington Palace posts, events, outings and more from the past month). And April was a busy one for Princess Catherine, 43, and Prince William, 42. (Not to mention it was busy for their youngest, Prince Louis, but more on that in a minute.) Here, a few highlights from their Instagram Stories featuring the Kensington Palace April Royal Rewind. Instagram / princeandprincessofwales The first Story (after their traditional intro slide shown above) featured a video of Prince William making a major announcement. In the vid, first posted in early April, the prince revealed that the upcoming Earthshot Prize ceremony is coming to Rio! He captioned the original video, "The Earthshot Prize is coming to Rio this November! Get ready for big announcements, inspiring stories, and 15 new incredible Finalists from around the world, all in the heart of Brazil." You'll notice he was joined by Robert Irwin (and this wasn't the pair's only collab in recent weeks). Of course, then there was a slide of the family's dog. April 11 marked National Pet Day, and to celebrate, the Princess of Wales shared a sweet snapshot of the family's black cocker spaniel, Orla. (Surprisingly, at the time, this made news as it helped debunk some royal rumors.) The prince and princess also shared a striking image of Princess Catherine with a group of scouts. The picture captures a moment from a series of videos posted in mid-April. They were filmed during a trip to the Lake District, where Kate joined Chief Scout Dwayne Fields and a group of young Scouts—she's joint president of the organization, after all—for a day outdoors. "I find it a very spiritual and very intense emotional reconnection I suppose, these environments," she said in one video. "Not everyone has that same relationship perhaps with nature, but it is so therefore meaningful for me as a place to balance and find a sort of sense of peace and reconnection in what is otherwise a very busy world." Then, the pic and video we've all been waiting for: Prince Louis's birthday post, which first debuted on his bday, April 23. Following with tradition, Kensington Palace released a never-before-seen photo of the birthday boy on social media. This was followed up by some footage of the young prince acting goofy for the cam. Naturally, things ended with a "thank you" slide from the Palace. After such a busy month, I can't wait to see what May brings! Want all the latest royal news sent right to your inbox? Chiefs players celebrated National Pet Day by showing off their four-legged friends
Chiefs players celebrated National Pet Day by showing off their four-legged friends The Kansas City Chiefs have some bombastic personalities on their payroll, and they never leave fans wanting for an interesting offseason story. Friday, April 11 was National Pets Day, which gave the reigning AFC champions a great opportunity to highlight their players' furry (or, as it turned out, scaly) friends in a post to Twitter. Running back Carson Steele, who joined Kansas City as an undrafted free agent last season after an illustrious collegiate career, was seen posing with his pet alligator, which is affectionately named Crocky-J. Among the other Chiefs seen in the team's post were star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, All-Pro center Creed Humphrey, and rising pass-rusher George Karlaftis, who were pictured with canines of various breeds: While Kansas City's locker room is known to be a tight-knit community, Steele's teammates won't soon be scheduling a playdate with Crocky-J for their four-legged friends. Expect to see more from Steele, Mahomes, Humphrey, and Karlaftis next season as the Chiefs look to earn a chance to appear in a fourth consecutive Super Bowl.
