What happens next with the collusion story?

NBC Sports8 hours ago

The collusion ruling could, depending on what the players choose to do, have ramifications for the NFL and/or the NFL Players Association. The collusion story is a different issue entirely.
Will it die on the vine in the wake of the looming hard reset of Fourth of July weekend, or will one or more media outlets assign reporters to try to advance the matter?
What do union sources think of this? How do members of the NFLPA executive committee feel? What about the board of player representatives? Individual players?
There are several specific wrinkles to which people involved in union management may have strong feelings, from the hiding of the decision for more than five months to the disparaging comments made by former NFLPA president (and current NFLPA chief strategy officer) J.C. Tretter regarding Russell Wilson.
Agents may have strong opinions. Lawyers may want to chime in. It won't matter unless reporters seek them out.
The entire situation has all the earmarks of a (technical term) shitshow. Will the NFL and the NFLPA manage to steer the situation into silence, or will it sprout legs?
Much of it depends on whether the small army of people who cover the NFL will throw caution to the wind and chase things they don't want us to know. I'll bet the under, and hope to be pleasantly surprised.

George Kittle Gets Brutally Honest About Retirement Plans

George Kittle Gets Brutally Honest About Retirement Plans originally appeared on Athlon Sports. George Kittle has established himself as one of the top tight ends in the NFL and proved it again last season. The San Francisco 49er finished with 78 catches for 1,106 yards and eight touchdowns despite a major down year for the team. Advertisement At age 31 Kittle remains one of the more reliably productive offensive players in the league which helped him earn a four-year $76.4 million deal this offseason. But as he revealed on the "Bussin with the Boys" podcast, the length of that extension may be the final window of his career in the NFL. 'I don't know, I think if I get to 35 and it hurts to put pants on in the morning, I think I'll be like, 'Ah, this isn't that much fun anymore,' and I'll have a conversation with myself. But I'm feeling great right now.' He will not have much trouble keeping himself occupied once he leaves the game. In fact, Kittle will consider all avenues available to him, including a path into the world of professional wrestling if it comes open. 'I haven't daydreamed about it or anything like that, but I'm definitely aware that there are potential opportunities and doors that could be open.... I would love to do WWE. I think there's definitely opportunity within that world. Advertisement 'My only question mark with that is I so much love being a fan of WWE. I would only do WWE if I bought a ring and practiced my ass off for a long time so I wouldn't look like an idiot out there. I've been in a WWE ring like three times. I don't know what I'm doing out there. I have an understanding of how it works..." WWE stardom would be quite the retirement plan for Kittle and he is certainly not the only individual with a football background to get into that industry. Regardless of what the business' critics say, wrestling does take a toll on the body and Kittle would have to be physically fit for it. Kittle often makes appearances at notable WWE events, so the transition from fan to wrestler would be quite the site, even if for occasional contests. Whatever Kittle decides, his magnetic personality will continue to draw a large following whenever the time comes to hang up his cleats. For now, his focus rests on helping the Niners get their championship ambitions back on track. Aaron Rodgers Trashes Fans And Media As '(Expletive) Entitled, Ridiculous and Embarrassing'

Aaron Rodgers Trashes Fans And Media As '(Expletive) Entitled, Ridiculous and Embarrassing' originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Twenty years in the NFL and a Cal education and an intellect he's fond of flaunting and quarterback Aaron Rodgers still doesn't get it. Advertisement Green Bay Packers fans enjoyed his four MVP's but they know the bit. New York Jets fans just saw him "lead'' them to a 5-12 season, so they learned. Now that Rodgers, at 41 off to Pittsburgh as the starting QB of the Steelers in 2025 before retirement, one more fan base is about to figure it out. Rodgers, who is said to be worth $200 million as a result of being in the NFL spotlight, just made a recent appearance of the Pat McAfee show on ESPN (which last time we checked pays him $1 million annually to appear) and he used the platform to blast those who seek information about his personal life and professional life. Advertisement Take it away, Aaron ... "The entitlement to information about my private life is so (expletive) ridiculous and embarrassing,"Rodgers said. "Like, hey, do what you've got to do, but try and leave me out of a conversation, sports world, for a month. Try and just leave me out, my personal life, my professional life, try not to talk about me ... for the next six weeks, five weeks, whatever it is. "Just see if you can do that." Our reply? No. We cannot do that. We can't do it because it is our job to chronicle All Thing Aaron, from the highs in Green Bay to when he tore his Achilles in the first quarter of his first game with the Jets to last season when he recorded an empty total of 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns to now, when he is a pivot point of the Steelers' playoff hopes. Advertisement Rodgers, like many celebrities, wants it both ways. The fame and the fortune, but only on their terms. "Privacy'' while dating actresses and supermodels and starring in a TV show (see "Enigma.'') A "don't look at me'' attitude while - in Aaron Rodgers' case - pitching loony life philosophies and conjuring up offensive conspiracy theories and considering a run for The White House. ou want to play QB in the NFL but you want to do it in hiding? Really? There are boundaries of respect, and if fans and reporters are hiding in the bushes of celebrities' backyards? Yeah, that's "entitlement, ridiculous and embarrassing.'' Advertisement And illegal. But short of that? The hypocritical truth, as Rodgers insists that when his NFL career is over, "You won't see me.''? ""When this is all done, it's Keyser Söze. You won't see me," referring to the secretive villain in "The Usual Suspects." "I won't be in the public. I don't want to live a public life. ... I'm not going to be in the public eye. When this is done, I'm done, and you won't see me. And I'm looking forward to that." In a very real sense, Aaron? We're kind of looking forward to that, too. Insider Tabs Surprising Veteran As Aaron Rodgers Replacement

Insider Tabs Surprising Veteran As Aaron Rodgers Replacement originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Aaron Rodgers' future was already in doubt before he signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers a few weeks ago. Many assumed he would join the Steelers for the 2025 season though the delay in making it official had fans wondering about his commitment to playing another season outright. Advertisement Rodgers' career is winding down and he make that perfectly clear this week, revealing on The Pat McAfee Show that his first year with the Pittsburgh Steelers will be the final of his career. That means the Steelers are on the clock to at a minimum start thinking about their future at the position. Pittsburgh faced a similar problem a year ago, deploying Russell Wilson and Justin Fields as temporary placeholders. It's a similar circumstance now for the team. Some feel that a projected stronger quarterback draft class could provide them the permanent answer they have sought after for years. However, one insider thinks that they could look into acquiring another veteran. ESPN's Brooke Pryor tabbed Arizona Cardinals' quarterback Kyler Murray as a player that could be on the Steelers radar. Advertisement "Trading for a starting quarterback is rarer these days, and expensive, but not impossible... The Steelers could first look at former first-round picks who haven't played up to their expected potential. "Arizona's Kyler Murray will have two years and a club option on his current contract after the 2025 season. His cap hits are significant -- $53.2 million and $43.5 million -- but they could be massaged and restructured." Murray enters his seventh year in the NFL and at age 27, there is still an opportunity for him to progress under center. When he's on the field, Murray is one of the more dynamic players in the league. But there is also an argument for the Steelers running into the same issue going this route. Changing out starting quarterbacks is an unconventional strategy because most teams press the reset button at the position through the draft. Advertisement Having changed out veterans multiple times already, a section of the fanbase would bemoan the use of that strategy for a third straight offseason. Murray does, however, have more upside than any other play caller to make it work. For now, the Steelers back Rodgers and will try to capitalize on his final season. But they will need to start thinking about what's next sooner rather than later.
