Alfie Wise, the actor who showed up in Smokey and the Bandit, The Cannonball Run and eight other films with his fun-loving pal Burt Reynolds, has died. He was 82.
Wise died July 22 of natural causes at Thomas H. Corey VA Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida, his longtime fiancée, Stephanie Bliss, told The Hollywood Reporter.

Jonathan Kaplan, Director of 'The Accused' and 'ER,' Dies at 77
Loni Anderson, 'WKRP in Cincinnati' Star, Dies at 79
Wise played a trooper in the prison-set The Longest Yard (1974), his first onscreen collaboration with Reynolds, and he worked with the movie star in The End (1978), Hooper (1978), Starting Over (1979), Paternity (1981), Stroker Ace (1983), City Heat (1984) and Heat (1986) as well.
The 5-foot-5 Wise also was the butt of Reynolds' jokes as marina owner Oliver Wardell on all 12 episodes of the 1989-90 ABC crime series B.L Stryker, and he appeared on a 1991 installment of Reynolds' longer-lasting CBS sitcom, Evening Shade.
'He loved his friends, and he really kept us very close,' Wise said of Reynolds in an interview with The New York Daily News shortly after Reynolds' death in 2018. 'His films were like an ongoing block party. I think the audience caught on to that. You always knew you were going to have a great time with a Burt Reynolds movie.'
Wise also portrayed Charles Nelson Reilly's sidekick, Mr. Rabbit Ears, on the 1975-76 kids show Uncle Croc's Block and was one-half of a paramedic team (Lou Ferrigno was the much bigger other half) on the 1983 ABC series Trauma Center, starring James Naughton, Wendie Malick and Dorian Harewood.
Born in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on Nov. 17, 1942, Ralph Louis Wise attended Keith Jr. High School and Altoona Area High School, where he served as class president for three years before graduating in 1960.
After graduating in 1964 from Penn State, where he was class president for four years, he served in the U.S. Navy — he produced and hosted shows on his ship — and moved to the Los Angeles area, where he landed a job as an NBC page.
In 1972, he appeared in the ABC pilot telefilm Call Her Mom, starring Connie Stevens, and on an episode of CBS' The Sandy Duncan Show.
In one of his more prominent roles, Wise played the cowardly assistant to the director (Robert Klein) of the action film The Spy Who Laughed at Danger at the center of Hooper, which features Reynolds as a stunt coordinator.
He was a patrolman in Smokey and the Bandit (1977) and the tow-truck driver known as 'Batman' in The Cannonball Run (1981).
He also served as Reynolds' assistant during their many years together.
'I've been very lucky to get to know and work with such a good friend,' he said in the late '70s in a story published in his hometown Altoona Mirror. 'Burt is one of the true gentlemen in the business as well as a caring and warm man.'
Wise's résumé also included the films Midway (1976), Swashbuckler (1976), Hot Stuff (1979), Rad (1986) and Catherine's Grove (1997) and the TV shows Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman, The Fall Guy, The Jeffersons and S Club 7 in Miami. He showed up as a panelist on Match Game, too.
More recently, he worked as a real estate agent in Reynolds' old stomping grounds of Jupiter, Florida.

PEACEMAKER Season 2 Will Reportedly Clear Up DCEU to DCU Continuity — GeekTyrant

The series Peacemaker began at the beginning of 2022, after having shot through 2021. It wasn't until the end of 2022 that the show's creator, James Gunn, was hired to take over the running of the studio with Peter Safran, effectively shaking up the willy nilly style of the DCEU, and streamlining the studio to run more similarly to Marvel, and becoming the DCU. Now we are about to see season 2 of Peacemaker , and things are a little different in his world, but will that be addressed? A new rumor claims that small changes will be seen in the new season. Industry scooper @MyTimeToShineH explains: "The first episode of Peacemaker Season 2 opens with 'Previously in the DCU.' It's mostly all Season 1 footage, but there are a couple of changes. Danielle Brooks' character now talks about calling in the Justice Gang, and they reshot the Justice League cameo from the finale. 'Now, it's Mister Terrific, Superman, [Guy Gardner], Hawkgirl, and Supergirl (all but [Green Lantern] and Hawkgirl are in shadow)." This would be an easy way to stay consistent with the groundwork that was laid in Superman . And we only have just over a week to see how it all pans out. Season 2 of Peacemaker kicks off on HBO/Max on August 21st.

Home Depot's Infamous Skelly Finds a Voice With New App for Halloween

Make no bones about it: Skelly's going high tech. Home Depot's popular 12-foot-tall skeleton decoration is coming back to life this Halloween with an app that lets you give the new Ultra Skelly a voice and new moves to scare the trick-or-treaters. The new animatronic version is shorter than the original, at 6.5 feet tall, but you can freak out your whole neighborhood with this skeleton's rotating upper torso, moving mouth and 18 LCD eye variations (ew). Skelly can now chat with visitors through five preset recordings and up to 30 seconds of custom recording, plus Bluetooth capabilities that let you interact in real time. And you can modulate your voice to make everything sound extra spooky. Skelly was originally launched in 2020, when the pandemic forced people to celebrate Halloween at a distance. Perhaps because of its giant stature -- it's easy to spot, even when social distancing -- the skeleton became a hit and has been resurrected every year since with upgrades and friends. This year those friends include dragons, trolls, scarecrows and a Skelly Cat (not to be confused with Smelly Cat). You can order Skelly and co now on the Home Depot website or app for $279.

Logan Marshall-Green Joins New YELLOWSTONE Spinoff Series Y: MARSHALS — GeekTyrant

CBS is diving deeper into the Yellowstone universe with its next big series Y: Marshals , and it just added a familiar face to the cast. Logan Marshall-Green has officially signed on to join the drama, which centers around Luke Grimes' character Kayce Dutton. Marshall-Green will portray Pete Calvin, a close friend of Kayce's from his time in the military. The character sounds like he'll be a key player in the show's action-driven narrative, which is setting out to blend the gritty world of U.S. Marshals with the rugged cowboy ethos we've come to expect from Taylor Sheridan's storytelling. According to the official logline: 'With the Yellowstone Ranch behind him, Dutton joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals, combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region's war on violence.' Y: Marshals is scheduled to debut in the middle of the 2025-2026 broadcast season with a 13-episode run on CBS. Episodes will air on Sunday nights. This new chapter in the Yellowstone franchise brings in Spencer Hudnut as writer and showrunner. The pilot will be directed by Greg Yaitanes, and it's being produced by MTV Entertainment Studios along with 101 Studios. Taylor Sheridan is executive producing alongside David C. Glasser, John Linson, Art Linson, Grimes, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yar, Michael Friedman, Keith Cox, and Yaitanes. For fans of genre film and television, Marshall-Green is no stranger. He's best known for roles in the action-horror cult hit Upgrade , Ridley Scott's sci-fi prequel Prometheus , and Christopher Nolan's upcoming epic The Odyssey . He also appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming , Snowden , The Invitation , and Ava DuVernay's When They See Us . With its mix of modern western grit, elite law enforcement action, and deep character ties to the original Yellowstone saga, Y: Marshals is shaping up to be one of the most exciting new dramas in the upcoming TV slate.
