Thousands of walkers in kilts stride out to raise millions for charity
Streets and paths between Glasgow and Loch Lomond were awash with tartan as people took part in the Glasgow Kiltwalk 2025 on Sunday, following a Kiltwalk between Clydebank and Balloch on Saturday.
In total 19,000 people walking for 1,100 Scottish charities took part over the weekend.
This year, Kiltwalk is also supporting Sir Chris Hoy's Tour de Four charity cycling event, which means that anyone who walks for Kiltwalk in 2025 will see everything they raise, plus eligible gift aid, go to five cancer charities nominated by Sir Chris.
The six-time Olympic champion cyclist was diagnosed with stage four prostate cancer in 2023, and was told last year that it has spread to his bones and is terminal.
The Hunter Foundation, founded by philanthropist Sir Tom Hunter, underwrites Kiltwalk, ensuring that all money raised by walkers goes to the charities of their choice, plus gift aid.
Sir Tom, who led the walkers on both days, said: 'In the 10 years that The Hunter Foundation has been involved with Kiltwalk, you and our foundation have raised an incredible £53 million for 4,000 Scottish charities.
'I believe the magic of Kiltwalk is quite simple: in every community across Scotland, there are people who need a wee hand up, and there are good folks like you who get up in the morning and help them.
'All the Kiltwalk does is simply connect you. There isn't a prouder Scotsman on the planet than me this morning.'
Comedian and broadcaster Paddy McGuinness was among those who took part in the Kiltwalk on Saturday.
So far the events this weekend have raised £3 million and this figure is expected to rise in the coming days.
Further Kiltwalks will take place in the coming months, in Aberdeen on Sunday June 1, St Andrews to Dundee on Sunday August 17 and Edinburgh on Sunday September 14.

Mondo Duplantis is inaugural Ultimate Star for World Athletics Ultimate Championship
Mondo Duplantis, who on Tuesday broke the men's pole vault world record for a 13th time, has been named World Athletics' inaugural Ultimate Star ahead of next year's first World Athletics Ultimate Championship. In the role, Duplantis will be "one of a select number of key collaborators pursuing their cultural passions outside of athletics in music, fashion, art, on-screen, who will promote the new global season-ending championship," according to World Athletics. It would be a dream to break the world record in front of a packed crowd next year. 'This event is set to showcase our sport like never before, and I can't wait to be a part of it.' The World Athletics Ultimate Championship is an exclusive, biennial season-ending track and field meet for even years without a World Outdoor Championships. The first edition will be in Budapest from Sept. 11-13, 2026, with 28 events total, including the senior global championship debut of the mixed-gender 4x100m relay. World Athletics announced last year that the meet will include fields of eight to 16 athletes per individual event. Those fields will be based primarily on world rankings with no limits on athletes per country. Track events will have semifinals and finals. Field events will have strictly finals. All reigning Olympic gold medalists, world champions and Diamond League season champions are guaranteed spots in their respective events. Athletes will wear national team uniforms. The clip has gone viral with over 2.5 million views and more than 415,200 likes at the time of writing. After paddling along the ground, the TikTok video then shows Gus leaping around in the water and making plenty of splashes. While some dog breeds were born to swim and had working roles that required them to dive into the water without hesitation, not all breeds are natural swimmers. The American Kennel Club (AKC) highlights that Labrador Retrievers, Portuguese Water Dogs, and Irish Water Spaniels all love the water and they have the physical structures to make them excellent swimmers. Contrastingly, short-legged breeds or long-bodied dogs can struggle in the water due to their disproportionate size. Not every dog will be the Michael Phelps of the canine world (sorry, Gus), so the AKC suggests that a life vest and swimming lessons can ensure that they can at least get around safely in the water. Teaching them how to swim can be done in a pool, a lake, or the ocean. But owners should be vigilant and always start in shallow water while remaining close to the dog. Encourage gradual movement and use plenty of praise to show them that the water isn't so bad. If the dog seems overwhelmed at any point, moving to shallow water or dry land is recommended to give them time to calm back down. Water safety is a priority, even if they're adept swimmers. Owners should always check the water temperature to ensure it's not too cold, be sure it's safe to swim in, and to check for any critters that might be swimming around too. The TikTok video of Gus has generated over 6,000 comments since it went viral, with many social media users lauding his unusual technique. Michel-Ange Balikwisha has have his heart set on a departure from Royal Antwerp this summer - but Celtic are yet to meet the Belgian club's asking price for the pacey winger. The 24-year-old has been heavily linked with Brendan Rodgers' side in the past year, with the Irishman desperate to bolster his options in attacking positions ahead of the first leg of their crunch Champions League play-off next week. Balikwisha joined Antwerp from Standard Liege four years ago and has scored 29 times in total in 140 matches.
