Bayer Leverkusen Closing In On 19-Year-old Manchester City Player: What Does This Mean For Pep Guardiola's Side?
According to Florian Plettenberg, a German journalist renowned for his transfer news, Bayer Leverkusen and Manchester City reached an agreement to close the transfer of Alfa-Ruprecht for €1.3 million. The deal includes a five-season contract with the Leverkusen outfit and leaves open the possibility of an immediate loan move following a medical, which is expected next week. Fabrizio Romano, meanwhile, added that the English side will keep 40 per cent of a future sale, a sign that they are confident the youngster can be revalued. All the signs are that we will soon see the youngster from Hamburg wearing the shirt of Die Werkself.
What Does This Mean For Pep Guardiola's Side?
For City, this deal means several things. Pep Guardiola has a squad full of established wingers and could not find a place for Alfa-Ruprecht. Releasing a player who was not getting any playing time clears the youth system and sends a clear message to other youngsters: if you want a place, you have to meet very high standards.
Moreover, the club are not closing the door on the possibility of making a profit in the future if the player explodes in Germany. That 40 per cent clause indicates that the Etihad Stadium still believes that his talent can flourish. Leverkusen are looking for an attacking, fast player with a hunger to prove himself. But in the short term, he could go out on loan to gain experience.
It is understood that they do not want to repeat past mistakes with talents that fade without continuity. For Guardiola, the attacking panorama does not change much, as his attack is still covered with big names. But the message is clear: City are thinking about the present and capitalising on young players without slowing down their progress. We will see if Alfa-Ruprecht turns this departure into a triumphant return, perhaps to England, with more experience and experience. Time will tell whether it was a successful loan or an early sale. For the youngster, it is the chance to prove that the talent he hinted at in Wilhelmsburg and polished in Manchester deserves to shine every weekend under the Bundesliga spotlight. Meanwhile,

Angel City welcomes infusion of talent with hope of netting more wins
Ever since she visited Los Angeles with her national team three years ago, Sveindís Jane Jónsdóttir knew she wanted to play in the National Women's Soccer League one day. When the opportunity to play for Angel City presented itself, Jónsdóttir was eager to join the league and play for new Angel City coach Alexander Straus. 'When Angel City came up, I was just really excited about it,' she said. 'I know Alex. I played against him when he was at Bayern and so I knew he was a great coach.' Three new players have joined Angel City (4-3-6) during the past few months, delivering an infusion talent for a team that sits in 11th place in the 14-team NWSL standings. The league's top eight teams advance to the playoffs. Jónsdóttir, a forward with Icelandic national team experience, signed with Angel City on May 21. After finishing her stint with Frauen-Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg, Jónsdóttir joined her first Angel City practice on Tuesday afternoon. Midfielder Evelyn Shores, who most recently played for the University of North Carolina, signed with Angel City on July 10. She has played for the U-23 U.S. women's national team. Goalkeeper Hannah Seabert, who was Sporting Clube de Portugal's captain earlier this year, signed with Angel City on May 30 and has been training with the team for three weeks. Seabert, a Riverside native and Pepperdine alum, spent most of her career playing abroad and wanted to return to the United States. 'As soon as Angel City opened up several years back, I just knew it was a team I wanted to be a part of,' she said of the franchise that began play in 2023. When Seabert's contract with Sporting CP expired, she pursued her goal of joining Angel City. 'When I came and visited here a couple weeks ago, it felt like a home away from home,' she said. 'The facilities are amazing and the girls were so welcoming. It just felt right when I came here.' Angel City sporting director Mark Parsons said the new players earned contracts because they aligned with the vision for the future of the club: winning. 'Who are the players that we believe represent where we're going and can play for Angel City when we're fighting for trophies,' Parsons said, referring to the question Angel City leaders asked before signing any new players. While the new players present an infusion of fresh talent, Angel City also is benefiting from the return of a familiar face. Forward Jun Endo, who tore her ACL in February 2024, played for the first time in 18 months during a friendly against Bay FC on Saturday. Endo was on the pitch for 30 minutes and scored the only goal of the game. 'If you're missing a player like Jun Endo for as much time as Angel City has been missing her, of course it affects [the game] because you cannot replace a player like that,' said Straus, the team's coach. Straus said he expects Angel City to evolve and move closer to achieving its long-term championship goals with the new signees and Endo available to play. Angel City, which is in the midst of an international break, plays a friendly Saturday against Carolina Ascent FC and resumes NWSL competition on Aug. 1 at Seattle Reign FC. 'Its not just about filling a roster,' Straus said. 'We need quality. We need people who can make a difference for us and so we hope they will do this for us. 'We will be good now, but we will be better in January.'

A deep-dive into star Lioness Chloe Kelly's impressive salary
As the nation gears up to cheer on the Lionesses this Sunday in the UEFA European Women's Championship finals – and after her unreal performance during the team's last intense match against Italy – all eyes are firmly on the forward (and newlywed), Chloe Kelly. The highly talented footballer kicked off (sorry) her career with Arsenal's youth club before debuting for the senior team in 2015 and is now one of the most recognised names in the women's branch of the sport. Later hopping over to Everton (initially on loan before making the transfer permanent), Kelly spent four years with the club before joining Manchester City in 2020, further establishing herself as a key player, winning domestic trophies and earning widespread recognition. In 2024, she returned to Arsenal, continuing her impressive footballing journey. Outside of the 'day job', Kelly has seen huge success with the England national team, which she debuted for in 2018 (after graduating the junior teams), and scored the winning goal in the UEFA Women's Euro 2022 final – firmly cementing her status as an icon. But how much is the footballing legend's salary? Given the insane amount of money we know some male players at a similar level take home, it's an interesting one to take a deep-dive into... Here's what we know about Chloe Kelly's salary and net worth. Previously playing for Everton and Manchester City, alongside the England Women's Team, Kelly's most recent move saw her bed in at Arsenal in 2024, (rightfully) increasing her pay along the way. While it has never been confirmed publicly, it's been reported that Kelly earned between £228,915 and £933,500 a year while playing for Manchester City, and it's likely that her move to Arsenal has netted her even more. As for her stint on the England team, the FA says the men's and women's team both receive £2,000 per game. "The FA pays its women's players exactly the same as their male counterparts for representing England, both in terms of match fees and match bonuses. This parity has been in place since January 2020," a spokesperson told The Independent. There are also bonuses up for grabs, which is where the equality reportedly seems to fizzle out... After winning the 2022 Euro's, The Sun claimed that each Lioness bagged a £55,000 bonus, but other reports suggest the men's team (who also reached the final but did not win in the 2020 Euros) took home £300,000 per person. Taking on board the above, along with the fact that she's worked with some seriously big name brands along the way, it's estimated that Chloe Kelly's net worth is between £2.3 million and £5 million. Some of her biggest endorsements include Land Rover, Calvin Klein and Nike (we bet the brand loved her iconic moment of whipping her top off and revealing a Nike sports bra while celebrating scoring the winning goal during the Euros 2022 – despite it earning her a yellow card). In August 2022, the Mail on Sunday reported that Kelly's Land Rover deal alone was worth £2 million. So basically, it sounds like she's doing pretty darn well for herself!
