Indian Ocean drill unites Russian and Bangladeshi navies in show of partnership
According to the Russian Navy's Pacific Fleet press office, quoted by Russian media, the PASSEX-type drills took place following a port call in Chattogram (formerly Chittagong) and featured tactical training, coordination exercises, and real-time replenishment at sea, Caliber.Az reports.
'During their visit to this friendly country, both sides agreed to carry out a joint naval exercise,' the fleet's statement read.
The drills included communication training, joint manoeuvring, and nighttime command coordination under radio silence, using only signal lights for communication. Sailors also practised resupplying fuel and freshwater at sea, using the Russian fleet's medium sea tanker Pechenga.
Russia's participating vessels included the Steregushchiy-class corvettes Rezkiy and Hero of the Russian Federation Aldar Tsydenzhapov, alongside the support tanker Pechenga. From Bangladesh, the BNS Umar Farooq (a Chinese-built Type 053H3 frigate), BNS Prottoy (a Shadhinata-class corvette), and BNS Durjoy (a Durjoy-class large patrol craft) took part.
The joint exercise capped off a port visit in Chattogram, where Russian crews also attended commemorative events recognising Soviet naval assistance in the early 1970s. From 1972 to 1974, Soviet Navy personnel helped demine and reopen Chattogram Port following the Bangladesh Liberation War, a gesture remembered by both nations as a symbol of enduring cooperation.
The Russian Pacific Fleet stated that the ships have now resumed their long-range deployment mission.

Russian plane vanishes near Chinese border with dozens on board
Shafaq News – Moscow A Russian passenger aircraft carrying nearly 50 people disappeared from radar in the Far Eastern Amur region on Thursday. The Antonov An-24, operated by Siberia-based Angara Airlines, lost communication with air traffic control while approaching the town of Tynda, according to the regional emergencies ministry. The aircraft reportedly vanished from radar screens without warning, prompting a swift deployment of rescue teams. Amur Oblast Governor, Vasily Orlov, said preliminary information indicated 49 people were on board, including 43 passengers—five of them children—and six crew members. He stated on Telegram that 'all necessary forces and means' had been mobilized for the search. The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations suggested that the plane was flying the Khabarovsk-Blagoveshchensk-Tynda route, with approximately 40 people on board. The debris of the plane was later located by a rescue helicopter on a hillside about 16km (10 miles) from Tynda.

Ancient rites revealed: Sasanian burial chambers found in Iraq's al-Anbar
Shafaq News - Al-Anbar On Friday, archaeologists confirmed that a site long rumored to be a 'sunken kingdom' on Anah Island in Iraq's al-Anbar province is, in fact, a collection of Sasanian-era burial chambers. Director of Anbar Antiquities Ammar Ali stated that the rock-cut structures, carved into limestone cliffs along the Euphrates, were used for funerals during the 2nd century BCE and early CE periods. The dead were positioned seated and facing the sun, consistent with Zoroastrian customs of the time. Ali dismissed local legends claiming the area was once a kingdom, prison, or ruled by a mysterious queen. 'There is no historical or archaeological basis for these stories." He explained that similar grave designs appear in other regional sites such as the Maghawir Majoul caves, indicating a widespread burial method during the Sasanian period. The site, known informally as Talbas, was likely a minor outpost used during conflict or isolation, not a major city. The burial cavities are located beyond the old settlement's boundaries. Much of the structure has deteriorated due to rising water levels and limestone erosion, erasing significant portions and leaving behind only a few identifiable segments.

North Korea's Kim vows 'unconditional support' for Russia's war in Ukraine
INA- SOURCES North Korea has become one of Moscow's main allies during its more than three-year Ukraine offensive, sending thousands of troops and container-loads of weapons to help the Kremlin oust Ukrainian forces from Russia's Kursk border region. Meeting top Russian security official Sergei Shoigu on Wednesday, Kim said that Pyongyang would "unconditionally support the stand of Russia and its foreign policies in all the crucial international political issues including the Ukrainian issue", the Korean Central News Agency reported. Kim "expressed expectation and conviction that Russia would, as ever, surely win victory in the sacred cause of justice", KCNA said. The two sides agreed to "continue to dynamically expand" relations, the state news agency reported. Russia and North Korea signed a sweeping military deal last year, including a mutual defence clause, during a rare visit by Russian leader Vladimir Putin to the nuclear-armed North. Shoigu hailed the deal as "fully meeting the interests of both countries" during a visit in March. Around 600 North Korean soldiers have been killed and thousands more wounded fighting for Russia, according to South Korean lawmaker Lee Seong-kweun, citing the country's intelligence service. North Korea in April confirmed for the first time that it had deployed troops to Russia to support Moscow's war in Ukraine -- and admitted that its troops had been killed in combat. South Korea has also accused the nuclear-armed North of sending significant volumes of weapons, including missiles, to help Russia's war effort. The visit was Shoigu's second to Pyongyang in less than three months. Deepening ties A multilateral sanctions monitoring group including South Korea, the United States, Japan and eight other countries last week condemned ties between Russia and North Korea as "unlawful". According to the group, Russian-flagged cargo vessels delivered as many as "nine million rounds of mixed artillery and multiple rocket launcher ammunition" from North Korea to Russia last year. In return, "Russia is believed to have provided North Korea with air defence equipment and anti-aircraft missiles", it said. The meeting between Kim and Shoigu in Pyongyang came the same day the North's arch-enemy South Korea swore in new president Lee Jae-myung. In a speech upon taking office Wednesday, Lee vowed to reach out to the North -- a marked departure from his hawkish predecessor Yoon Suk Yeol, under whom relations plummeted to their worst level in years. Lee said Seoul would "deter North Korean nuclear and military provocations while opening communication channels and pursuing dialogue and cooperation to build peace on the Korean Peninsula". KCNA reported on Lee's inauguration in a two-line report on Thursday but did not respond to his overtures for talks. It also issued a commentary Thursday slamming French President Emmanuel Macron over "imprudent" comments on Pyongyang's ties with Moscow, calling them "shocking claptrap". The commentary by analyst Choe Ju Hyun took aim at comments by the French leader during the recent Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore. Macron suggested that the NATO defence alliance could become involved in Asia if China did not do more to press North Korea to stop sending forces to help Russia's war in Ukraine. "It is a mistake if Macron thinks that he can cloak NATO's aggressive and wicked intention to put dirty military shoes on the Asia-Pacific region by taking issue with the DPRK-Russia cooperative relations," the commentary said, referring to North Korea by its official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
