Aryna Sabalenka Was Pissed Off at Amanda Anisimova During Wimbledon Match originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Aryna Sabalenka has never been one to hide her emotions on the court, and that fire was on full display during her Wimbledon semifinal loss to Amanda Anisimova. The Belarusian star, a three-time Grand Slam champion and former world No. 1, was upset after a tense battle, and a little gamesmanship from Anisimova may have added fuel to the fire.

Sabalenka had battled her way through a tough draw to reach the semis, including a gritty quarterfinal comeback where she dropped the first set against Laura Siegemund. However, during her match with Anisimova, a pivotal moment in the second set altered the energy.
A reporter brought it up in her post-match press conference: 'I just wanted to ask about a point in the second set. She celebrated before the ball went past you. You looked at the umpire. I just wondered if you thought that was more of a hindrance issue?'
Sabalenka didn't hold back.
'I was just trying to chase the ball,' Sabalenka said. 'She was already celebrating it. I was like 'I mean, that's a bit too early.''

The celebration clearly struck a nerve.
'She kind of pissed me off, like saying, 'That's what she does all the time,'' Sabalenka continued. 'But I was grateful and thankful that she said that because I was like, it actually helped me to keep fighting. I was like OK, now I'm gonna show you the tennis.'
Fueled by that frustration, Sabalenka stormed back to take the second set, looking locked in and fired up.
'I came back because I got really angry in that moment,' she admitted. 'Probably in the third set, I should've remembered, and probably it would've helped. But it is what it is.'
Over eight head-to-head matches, the 24-year-old Anisimova leads the series 5-3.

Anisimova ultimately closed out the win, pulling off one of the biggest surprises of the 2025 tournament. With her win, she will face Iga Swiatek in the Ladies' Singles final.
Still, Sabalenka's fire and fight were evident, and her candid post-match comments added even more spark to what's already shaping up to be a lively potential rivalry with Anisimova.
One thing's for sure: if they meet again, Aryna won't forget this one.

Detroit Red Wings sign first-round draft pick Carter Bear to entry-level contract

The Detroit Red Wings have signed their top draft pick. The Red Wings and first-round draft pick Carter Bear have agreed on a three-year, entry-level contract, as announced on the team's X account: Detroit made Bear the No. 13 overall pick at the 2025 NHL Draft, held on June 27. The 18-year-old forward led the Western Hockey League's Everett Silvertips with 82 points in the 2024-25 season despite partially tearing his Achilles tendon on March 9. The Red Wings drafted Bear despite his injury, with general manager Steve Yzerman saying: "We checked it out. Our doctors feel it will heal 100%. It wasn't a concern for us at all." Bear was named to the WHL's Western Conference Second All-Star Team in 2025, his third season with the Silvertips. Entry-level contracts last for three years for NHL draftees who are 18-19 years old. The contract allows for Bear to continue playing in lower leagues without starting the clock on his contract, with nine NHL games allowed before he has to remain with the Wings. He is likely to remain with the Silvertips for another season. Cubs Predicted to Pass on Sandy Alcantara, Land Mitch Keller

Cubs Predicted to Pass on Sandy Alcantara, Land Mitch Keller originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It's been reported multiple times over the past few months that the Chicago Cubs are interested in adding to their starting rotation. After Justin Steele went down with a tough injury that will require him to miss the remainder of the campaign, the Cubs understood almost instantly when the season started that they needed to figure something out on the mound. They've been linked to multiple names, with right-hander Mitch Keller of the Pittsburgh Pirates being a prevalent one. Sportsnaut was the most recent to bring up the two again, predicting the Cubs to land the former All-Star in a deal at the trade deadline. 'Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara entered the season as one of the most coveted MLB trade candidates. He struggled out of the gate but then seemed to rebound with a 2.12 ERA in three starts to open June. At that point, it certainly seemed plausible he could be traded, and the Chicago Cubs appeared to be the perfect match. Since then, Alcantara has allowed 21 earned runs and 30 hits in his last 23 innings pitched, entering the All-Star Break with a 7.22 ERA and a –1.6 bWAR. Miami might keep him because his declining trade value right now,' they wrote. As they touched on, Sandy Alcantara is also a potential trade candidate, but he hasn't thrown the baseball at the level he was expected to when entering the season. It hasn't been like Keller has been unhittable, but Alcantara has been brutal with his 7.22 ERA. It feels safe to say that if the Cubs have an opportunity to land Alcantara, it wouldn't be surprising to see them go after him, but right now, as crazy as it might've sounded a few years ago, Keller might be the safer bet. New York Liberty vs. Indiana Fever: Will Caitlin Clark play tonight?
