Robbie Williams' boldest tour yet proves the 90s aren't dead
Robbie Williams first captured the nation's hearts back in 1990 when he burst onto the music scene as a cheeky and loveable member of beloved boyband Take That. Now, 35 years on from his fresh-faced debut, his latest UK tour has well and truly proved that the 90s aren't dead.
The 51-year-old pop icon has been wowing fans up and down the UK on his highly anticipated 2025 tour, with shows in Edinburgh, London and now Manchester's Coop Live Arena. The singer of 'Angels' promised this tour would be his 'boldest yet', and judging by the audience response on Wednesday, June 12, he certainly delivered.
The concert kicks off with a fusion of futuristic tech and nostalgic messages, reminding everyone in attendance why we're here, to simply savour the music.

Following a series of tongue-in-cheek messages from AI-generated replicas of icons like Freddie Mercury, David Bowie and Elvis, Robbie takes to the stage in a rather understated Troy Bolton-style bright red vest and matching trousers. It's an ensemble he sticks with for most of the evening, switching into a pink version halfway through the show.
Kicking off the set with 'Rocket' didn't quite appear to hit the mark with the crowd initially, but any reservations were swiftly forgotten when the opening chords to 'Let Me Entertain You' rang out.
This became a recurring theme throughout the night, as Robbie switched on his 90s boyband popstar persona to deliver the evening's highlights, interspersed with less popular tracks from his long showbiz career.
Robbie wasn't shy about being the butt of the joke if it meant winning the crowd back over. Throughout the night, the former Take That member engaged with the audience.
Fans heard the star's heartfelt revelations about his journey as he spoke candidly about his battles with addiction and mental health, thanking his fans for their unwavering support.
A particularly touching moment came during "I Love My Life," which he dedicated to his wife and children.
Robbie spent a significant portion of the evening chatting to his audience, leaving the evening feeling more like 'an evening with Robbie', rather than a straightforward gig of back-to-back hits. And when it came to the classics, Robbie often let the audience take over the singing.
For this reviewer, the high point of the evening came in the final 10 minutes when Robbie powerfully performed Angels and Feel. These iconic songs were destined to steal the spotlight, with everyone lighting up their phones for a truly magical atmosphere.

Robbie Williams records FIFA walk-out anthem, to debut at Club World Cup
British singer-songwriter Robbie Williams has recorded a FIFA walk-out anthem which will debut at the Club World Cup in the United States. The Athletic reported in January that Williams, 51, would perform a song for the 2025 Club World Cup as part of his ambassadorial role with world football's governing body. Advertisement FIFA confirmed on Saturday Williams had written and recorded an anthem titled 'Desire', which will be played before all FIFA tournament fixtures as the teams walk out onto the pitch and line up, including at the 2026 men's World Cup. The former Take That artist performed a snippet of the track at the Club World Cup's launch event for its trophy tour in New York in January, but it will debut in full ahead of the first game of the tournament between Inter Miami and Al Ahly at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday. The song was written alongside Karl Brazil, Owen Parker and Erik Jan Grob, while Italian singer Laura Pausini also features on the vocals. 'I've grown up watching the walk-outs, the anthems, the drama – so writing and recording the official FIFA anthem is a real privilege,' Williams said. 'I wanted to create something that captures all of it — the passion, the nerves, the pride and the majesty of that feeling just before kick-off.' Williams supports his local club Port Vale, who won promotion from League Two last season, and he was named their club president last year. He has worked with FIFA in the past, including performing at the opening ceremony of the 2018 men's World Cup in Russia. His performance provoked U.S. broadcaster Fox to issue an apology — via the Hollywood Reporter — after he stuck his middle finger up directly into the camera during the broadcast, which would have been shown in millions of homes worldwide. The revamped 32-team Club World Cup begins on Saturday, with FIFA forced to cut ticket prices for the opening fixture between Inter Miami and Al Ahly amid concerns of empty seats. The Athletic reported on June 11 the governing body's latest attempts to fill Hard Rock Stadium involved offering students at an affiliated local college a single ticket for $20 — but with the promise of up to four complimentary tickets.

Lionel Richie stops Co-op Live show for Manchester revelation as thousands enjoy iconic hits
Superstar Lionel Richie embraced his love of Manchester during the first of two nights in the city as part of his greatest hits tour. Quite startlingly, it has been 10 years since Lionel Richie's iconic Glastonbury legend slot at Worthy Farm for what the famous American singer-songwriter dubbed 'Glastonberry' throughout. A decade on, Lionel has lost none of his quick-witted nature or dazzling showmanship displayed as he opened the first of two nights at Manchester's Co-op Live Arena - quickly following on from a visit from another US great Bruce Springsteen. READ MORE: Robbie Williams reunites with Spice Girl at star-studded Manchester Co-op Live gig READ MORE: X Factor star delayed holiday to join Robbie Williams on stage in Manchester in 'career defining moment' Thousands headed to the venue on Thursday evening in sparkling jackets, the odd curly wig and other Lionel-inspired regalia as his Say Hello to The Hits 2025 tour stopped in the city. Some piled in early to catch support act Brooke Combe while others enjoyed covers from a Huddersfield three-piece performing in the arena's newly-relaunched Co-op Backstage Club. All were present-and-correct, in their auditorium seats, just after 9pm when the man they were longing to see took to the stage. Slightly tardy (doubtful many will hold it against Lionel), a sweeping montage featuring Lionel down-the-years preluded his arrival, featuring an enviable plethora of award and gong citations from the star's career, which dates back to the 1960s, alongside nods to some of the musical icons he's collaborated with. Then quite simply, Lionel had them at Hello as he launched from under the catwalk-like stage set-up to adoring adulation from the Manchester masses. Lionel, who turns 76 next week, wasn't messing about with big numbers coming fast. The opener followed by Running With The Night and the 1980s idol, who donned a snazzy white jacket, taking to his piano for Commodores classic Easy. As billed, the evening was something of an open-top trophy parade tour of major songs with a large helping of that Lionel Richie charisma dropped in for good measure. The towering figure enthusiastically declared: 'It's Manchester. We've got to blow the roof off the joint.' Lionel regularly informed the audience of his Mancunian experiences over the mere '230 years' that he has been visiting the city on tour. At one point, as our video shows, he stopped proceedings to embrace that unique Manchester weather - so lauded and admired across the globe. Lionel said: 'I want you all to clear this up for me. I woke up this morning and I opened up the curtains and I saw sunshine. I didn't know you had sunshine in Manchester. My god. 'And, I said 'quickly, quickly let's go downstairs I want to get some kind of a tan'. The guy at the (hotel) counter said 'I wouldn't do that if I were you, it might rain later on tonight'.' Laughter ensued and cries of 'go on, Lionel!' quickly followed ahead of Stuck On You. The white jacket was dispensed as fire erupted from the rear of the stage for the funk-laden Brick House which saw Lionel strut down his catwalk with his talented accompanying band. The superstar paused to make a mental note to turn the heat down for Friday night's follow-up performance. He quipped: 'I was taking a moment to think about just how hot that fire really was.' Alongside the music, Lionel's live events go a long way to encapsulate a sense of fun, often lost during big shows, and there were a lot of beaming smiles on faces at the Co-op on Thursday. The former Commodores singer was regularly joined by thousands of backing vocalists who made up the crowd and gave them a chance to hit the right notes, taking the Diana Ross role, for Endless Love. My Destiny and Dancing On The Ceiling, the latter being met by rapturous applause at its conclusion, were added set highlights. The main portion of the proceedings concluding with a second piano appearing and Lionel being lifted up high on it for Say You, Say Me before an impassioned declaration for equality preceded We Are The World. A quick addition of a green sequinned jacket came as Lionel returned for the one-song encore All Night Long, a party mandate his fans were keen to adhere to. Although with curfew being pushed at 11.05pm, the curtain came down with Lionel telling the city: 'I love you so much, Manchester.'
