Florence's House Of Nine Mixes Superyachts And Supper Clubs To Acclaim

Forbes5 hours ago

It seems like visiting Florence, one of Italy's most popular cities, is high on every traveler's list. From the handmade pasta to the ornate art and architecture to the allure of aperativo hour, wandering stunning piazzas with a gelato in hand is almost irresistible. Known as the cradle of the renaissance, as well as the birthplace of gelato, Florence has seen a marked increase in tourism over the past decade. With tourism comes long lines and endless crowds. So where do locals and visitors in-the-know gather to eat, drink and be merry? Enter House of Nine, Florence's first membership club and hotel gaining a reputation for breaking the mold for luxury and accessibility. The lifestyle brand seamlessly links disparate ventures including a boutique spa, fitness, restaurant and, now, two luxurious superyachts, private chef included, into a chic portfolio that sums up their all encompassing ethos of fostering community.
A typical scene from Daisy's Restaurant
The House of Nine concept comes from husband and wife team Ginevra Moretti and Max Fane. The original hotel was upgraded from a four star property to a five star a few years ago including the adjoining gym and restaurants spaces. Daisy's Restaurant, named after Fane's grandmother, became the star of the show featuring a full lineup of raw bar delicacies, handmade pastas and innovative cocktails. With the new space filled with buzzing guests and a lineup of unique performances from some of the most talented musicians in the area, the two realized that they had the makings of a supper club turned cultural salon. By showcasing incredible local musical performances, themed dinner shows including Brazilian and Cuban nights and the food and drink that bring them together they've created not just a performance space but a shared community. Now, with the launch of their bespoke superyacht program, the perks for guests and members alike are stacking up.
Curiosity, one of two bespoke superyachts
While the hotel is located near the city center just steps from both the Medici Chapels and the Duomo, the superyacht charters begin with a short two hour transfer to Piombino port. Unlike typical charters, guests can choose 2-3 day itineraries instead of a whole week with options to split time between their superyacht of choice, Curiosity or Electa, and in the hotel. All meals on the yachts are included with an onsite chef and staff at the ready. Expect traditional Italian fare from fresh seafood to risotto with a twist depending on what the chef finds fresh daily. Breakfast is a la carte and lunch is served family style while dinner is typically a plated affair with optional wine pairings. The menu changes trip by trip and is fully bespoke and amenable to guests dietary restrictions.
A fully loaded seafood tower
Still not sure about splitting time? Both superyachts offer something that the hotel doesn't have: sunset aperitivo hour. Nothing makes a perfect spritz, pour a glass of bubbly or cheeky gin and tonic taste better than being anchored near some of the most pristine spots on the Tuscan coastline. All routes sail around Elba, the stunning island notorious for being Napoleon's home during his first exile. Today, Elba is more known for whimsical seaside towns dotted with cafés, shops and visitors from all over Italy and abroad looking for a respite in various scenic harbors before returning to the buzzing metropolis of Florence.

Intriguing Trailer for 1950s-Set Drama FINALLY DAWN Featuring Lily James, Joe Keery and Willem Dafoe — GeekTyrant

After a 2023 Venice Film Festival debut, Samuel Goldwyn Films has debuted the US trailer for the Italian film Finally Dawn , featuring the star-studded cast that includes Lily James, Willem Dafoe, Rachel Sennott, Joe Keery, Alba Rohrwacher, Michele Bravi, and Rebecca Antonaci. The film is written and directed by Saverio Costanzo ( Private , In Memory of Me , Auschwitz 2006 , In Treatment , My Brilliant Friend ). The synopsis reads: 'Rome, 1953. The night after the murder of Wilma Montesi, several people linked to a sword-and-sandal film set in ancient Egypt that is being shot at Cinecittà find themselves sharing many moments: Mimosa (Rebecca Antonaci), a simple Roman girl, about to marry a man who is liked more by his family than by her, who initially showed up at Cinecittà only to be an extra; Josephine Esperanto (Lily James), the star of the film, a veteran of classic Hollywood who feels threatened by the new generation of 'naturalistic' actors represented by Sean Lockwood, another protagonist of the film; Rufus Priori, an American gallery owner & friend of Josephine's, who will lead the unlikely group on their journey throughout the night.' This looks like an interesting original story. It debuted at a couple of film festivals in 2023, so it's weird we haven't heard more about it. But you'll have the chance to view it now, as it hits select US theaters and VOD on July 18th. Check out the trailer below:

Apple Test-Drives Big-Screen Movie Strategy With F1

Forty-eight hours before Formula One's Grand Prix took to the streets of Monaco in late May, Apple Inc. screened its upcoming F1 film for the real-life drivers and team managers competing at the pinnacle of motorsport. It was crucial to Apple's services boss, Eddy Cue, that the company get it right. Not only is Cue himself a lifelong racing fan who sits on the board of Ferrari NV, but the movie is among Apple's most expensive pictures to date, with a budget of more than $200 million. Raising the stakes even higher, it marks the tech giant's return to theaters since dialing back its earlier big-screen ambitions. To capture the feel of sitting in a cockpit hurtling forward at 233 mph (375 kph), Apple mounted dozens of iPhone cameras on cars zooming through actual F1 events. In fact, the setup produced scenes so dramatic that the company has entered talks with Formula One to permanently affix its miniature lenses onto each car's fuselage, which would change how the sport is televised to roughly 70 million global viewers per race.

Aki successfully campaigns for fines role

The latest episode of the Lions' in-house behind-the-scenes documentary has dropped on YouTube, taking in the warm-up defeat by Argentina in Dublin. There are some interesting tidbits to note. Captain Maro Itoje, who said his team had played too much 'tippy-tappy' rugby after defeat by the Pumas, was banging that same drum in training beforehand. Advertisement "We were looking to force the pass a bit and in forcing the pass we turned the ball over and invited more pressure on ourselves," he said after a session before the game. "In the moments when things don't go our way, let be more direct, let's back our physicality." Elsewhere, there is insight into the make-up of the various tour committees with Scotland prop Pierre Schoeman being given responsibility for 'joke of the day' on the bus and Ireland centre Bundee Aki in charge of fines. "Bundee was desperate to be on the fines committee," said Itoje. "I had a few people tell me he shouldn't be allowed - that the power goes to his head - but he was so hungry for it I said he could have it." Advertisement England's Ellis Genge is one of the early stars. The England prop is noticeably vocal in the dressing room before and at half-time in the game against Argentina. There is also a nice moment as he praises Tadhg Beirne's scrum technique to assistant coach John Fogarty in training.
