Business Wire3 days ago

MIAMI & COCONUT CREEK, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Miami-based Pediatrica Health Group, a multi-site, pediatric primary care organization dedicated to providing equitable access to innovative care for kids, today announced the completed acquisition of Coconut Creek Pediatrics, owned and operated by Dr. Arif Wajid. With this acquisition, Pediatrica expands into South Florida, making significant progress on its commitment to provide comprehensive pediatric primary care to families across the state and beyond.
'…when providers go beyond the basics, we can create long-term positive impacts for generations to come…'
Dr. Wajid and his team have established lasting relationships with the families in their community – the countless positive reviews speak for themselves. More than top-notch support staff and a friendly bedside manner, Dr. Wajid takes a holistic approach to care. He has exceeded standards by offering services such as new parent education and support for patients and parents to address issues that impede school and social development. Plus, he has dedicated time and expertise to advancing healthy outcomes through participation in pediatric-focused clinical research. 'Dr. Wajid's approach to care mirrors Pediatrica's Next Generation Care SM model,' notes Pediatrica founder and CEO Roberto Palenzuela, 'When providers go beyond the basics, we can create long-term positive impacts for generations to come. Our alignment on this made Coconut Creek Pediatrics an attractive target for acquisition.'
Growing to meet the needs of the community...
Pediatrica is already taking steps to continue building on the foundation of meaningful work Dr. Wajid has established. In addition to a full back-office to support administrative work, the team has also welcomed a new pediatric care provider, Shauvron Langrin, APRN. A parent herself, Shauvron knows first-hand the never-ending worry that comes with the territory. With compassion, she is skilled at putting parents at ease by partnering with these families to support care. Adding more resources and providers to the practice means expanding accessibility to care to the community, including families on Medicaid.

New Gold Star on Hamilton's west side is open and has an expanded menu

Jun. 6—A relocated Hamilton west side Gold Star restaurant is now open and is much larger than its former location on Main Street. It is in a plaza on North Brookwood Avenue that will see explosive growth in the next few years. A Valvoline is being built nearby, next to Wendy's and a newly announce Kroger Marketplace will be close, too. The Gold Star is corporate-owned as it replaces a building owned by now-former franchisee Carlo Salem, who is retiring. Gold Star Chili CEO Roger David said the work to select a location and build it took at least five years. However, it's been his priority for just about his entire 10-year tenure as CEO. Plans for the project were approved by Hamilton City Council in 2023. "It's very, very rewarding to be here," he said. David said patrons will notice a few things walking through the door, one being "an elevated level of hospitality." Another is an expanded menu, which in addition to the classic conies and ways, the restaurant will serve single and double burgers, deckers, fried chicken sandwiches, milkshakes and garlic parmesan fries, which David says "are the best in the city." The westside Hamilton store is a little bigger than the newer prototype restaurants being built over the past few years. The new Gold Star store replaced an old Pizza Hut, but David said they used that pizza restaurant's existing footprint, which resulted in a bigger space. "It has a tremendous dining room in there, we can accommodate a large group," he said. Gold Star plans to continue its partnership with community groups, including the schools, churches "and any organization that congregates." "We'll be a part of whatever their needs may be," he said. But helping with food banks and pantries is where the 60-year-old restaurant chain "really, really leans in heavily." "Understanding community needs is kind of where it starts, but with hunger, that's typically where we lean in a little heavier," he said. While the North Brookwood Gold Star has been open for a couple of weeks, the Cincinnati-based chain will formally celebrate its opening the weekend of Aug. 9 and 10, where guests can get free cheese coneys with the purchase of a drink, and chances to win free burgers for a year. The restaurant is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at 108 N. Brookwood Ave.

Trump says Musk ‘has lost his mind' as feud with Tesla tycoon continues

President Donald Trump continued his war of words with Elon Musk on Friday, saying the Tesla tycoon 'has lost his mind' — even as Musk seemed to be softening his stance in their epic feud. Trump on Friday told reporters that while Musk may be ready to make amends, he's not ready to rekindle his friendship with the tech billionaire, whose public criticism of the president's "Big Beautiful Bill" — he called the proposed budget legislation a 'disgusting abomination' — sparked their ugly breakup. 'You mean the man who has lost his mind?' Trump said to ABC News' Jonathan Karl when asked about Musk. The president added he is 'not particularly' interested in speaking with Musk directly even though he claimed Musk has been trying to talk to him. 'I'm not even thinking about Elon. He's got a problem,' Trump told CNN. 'The poor guy's got a problem.' Musk didn't immediately respond to the new round of barbs from Trump, though the world's richest man signaled late Thursday that he was interested in lowering the temperature of their blow-up. He liked favorable posts online about his relationship with Trump, including one from hedge fund manager Bill Ackman. 'I support @realDonaldTrump and @elonmusk and they should make peace for the benefit of our great country,' he wrote. Musk replied: 'You're not wrong.' But it may be far too late for detente. MAGA adviser Steve Bannon suggested the government should use the Defense Production Act to seize SpaceX and Starlink from Musk in the interests of national security. The populist firebrand also urged Trump to investigate Musk's reported drug use and even his immigration status. Musk was born and raised in South Africa and is a naturalized U.S. citizen, but some reports claim he worked illegally in the U.S. years ago. Musk responded by deriding Bannon as a 'communist' and used the R-word to demean his intelligence. Musk tweeted late Thursday that he would no longer allow NASA to use SpaceX's Dragon craft to shuttle astronauts to the International Space Station, but backed off the threat hours later. The bromance between the two men fractured in recent weeks as Musk stepped down from his government post and denounced Trump's sprawling budget bill for blowing up the federal budget deficit. The criticism comes as Trump seeks to win the near-unanimous support of Republican lawmakers needed to jam the bill through Congress. It would extend his signature deep tax cuts for the wealthy and big corporations and make substantial but lesser cuts to popular social programs like Medicaid. Things really went off the rails Thursday when Trump said he was 'disappointed' in Musk and also accused him of having 'Trump Derangement Syndrome.' Musk, who shelled out nearly $300 million to land Trump in the White House, also accused his ex-pal of 'ingratitude,' adding that 'Trump would have lost the election' if not for his support. The mogul also agreed with a social media post calling for Trump's impeachment and suggested that Trump is implicated in Jeffrey Epstein's notorious sex trafficking crimes. Trump countered by threatening to cut off government contracts given to Musk's companies, paving the way for some MAGA acolytes to suggest other ways to exact pay back on Musk, who owns Tesla, SpaceX and X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter. _____

Buc-ee's opens store an hour from New Orleans

Buc-ee's opens its massive travel center Monday in Mississippi just off Interstate 10 in Pass Christian. Why it matters: It's the popular chain's closest location to New Orleans (it's about one hour away) as it works on building its first two stores in Louisiana. The big picture: Buc-ee's is a cult favorite for road trippers. It's known for clean bathrooms, fresh food and beaver-themed merchandise. The Mississippi location has all the classics, the company says, including Texas barbeque, jerky, fudge, kolaches, pastries and snacks. It also has 120 gas pumps and 24 EV charging stations, according to a press release. The store opens at 6am and will be open 24 hours, seven days a week. By the numbers: It's the company's first store in Mississippi and has one of its largest footprints at 74,000 square feet. Its largest store, which it claims is the world's largest convenience station, is in Luling, Texas, at 75,593 square feet. Until now, the closest one to New Orleans was in Alabama near Mobile. Zoom out: Buc-ee's is a Texas-based chain that has been expanding its footprint nationally. Its first Louisiana store is expected to open in Ruston late next year, a company spokesperson tells Axios. A Lafayette store is projected to open in 2027, the spokesperson says. If you go: Expect crowds and traffic on I-10 near the new store. The Pass Christian location is at 8245 Firetower Road, which is accessed via exit 24 (Menge Avenue) on I-10.
