‘Jeopardy!' fans divided after winning contestant's final clue is linked to her famous relative
'Jeopardy!' fans were left divided after a contestant's winning answer had an unexpected tie to her famous ancestor.
On Monday's episode of the long-running NBC game show, one of the three contestants, Emily Croke, answered a question correctly and became champion — after being given a clue by host Ken Jennings referring to an ancestor of hers.
The prompt read: 'In 1895, the Vassar-educated wife of this man wrote, 'Thousands of dollars may be paid for a copy of Shakespeare.''
Croke wrote down the correct answer, 'Folger,' prompting Jennings to ask her about her decision.

She replied that the woman referred to in the clue Jennings gave her had been her 'great, great, great-aunt Emily.'
A stunned Jennings asked the contestant, 'Emily Folger, the one we mentioned in the clue is the person you, Emily Croke, are named after?' in a viral clip shared by the official 'Jeopardy!' Instagram account.
'Yes,' Croke said, nodding several times, to which Jennings responded, 'Wow.'

Croke ended up winning the game thanks to the final clue, ending her run with a total of $13,201. She is set to return to see if she can continue her winning streak.
Emily Folger, co-founder of the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, DC, the world's largest collection of the playwright's works, created the library along with her husband, Standard Oil chairman Henry Clay Folger.

Croke's luck was dubbed 'the most amazing coincidence in the history of 'Jeopardy!'' by one commenter on the clip.
'What are the odds of that happening?' a second commenter asked.
'Was in the audience for this one. It truly surprised everyone,' a third wrote.
Others felt the question was unfair on the other contestants.
'How is anyone not a family member supposed to deduce the correct reply? What am I missing?' one wrote.
Another added that it was 'not fair' and said Croke should be 'disqualified.'

Jason Aldean and Travis Tritt bring 'It's A Great Day To Be Alive' to CMA Fest 2025 ABC special
For the past year, Georgia-native country hitmaker Jason Aldean has chased cementing his status as a 30-time chart-topping performer. He arrived at CMA Fest to celebrate his latest hit "Whiskey Drink," achieving that success. As well, he metaphorically tipped his ever-present cowboy hat to one of his childhood musical heroes, the Grand Ole Opry member and "Class of '89" favorite Travis Tritt. The two country singers performed a rendition of "It's A Great Day To Be Alive" at CMA Fest 2025 in Nashville on June 5, the festival's opening night. The performance will be part of the ABC CMA Fest TV special on June 26. 'This next song's not one of mine, but it's by one of my musical heroes growing up in Georgia,' Aldean said before the performance. 'This guy was from Georgia, and 25 years ago, he had a hit song… so we're going to play this one for you.' CMA Fest 2025 on ABC: How to watch, stream special hosted by Ashley McBryde and Cody Johnson Aldean began singing Tritt's 2000 hit, belting out: "I got rice cooking in the microwave / Got a three day beard I don't plan to shave / And it's a goofy thing but I just gotta say, hey / I'ma doing alright." Mid-way through the song, Aldean invited Tritt to join him onstage. As the duo strummed guitars, they sang the tune's feel-good chorus alongside lively fiddle. "And it's a great day to be alive / I know the sun's still shining / When I close my eyes." The song originally appeared on Darrell Scott's record "Aloha from Nashville" in 1997, which Scott wrote after recovering from a back injury. When Scott was finally able to care for himself again after being bedridden for a week, the tune of gratitude poured out of him. Tritt released his version of the track on his album "Down the Road I Go," with the single reaching number two on Billboard's Hot Country Chart. Audrey Gibbs is a music journalist at The Tennessean. ABC's ‘The Golden Bachelor' Star Mel Owens Says He Will Cut Women Over 60: 'This Is Not ‘The Silver Bachelor''
Mel Owens signed up to star on the second season of ABC's The Golden Bachelor and shocked with his comments about the women he doesn't want on the show. The 66-year-old former Los Angeles Rams NFL star, who is now a lawyer, made an appearance on a podcast where he drew a hard line on the age of the women he could consider dating. More from Deadline 'The Golden Bachelor' Sets Jessica Castro As Showrunner 'The Bachelor' Showrunners Claire Freeland & Bennett Graebner Exiting Dating Franchise Following 'Toxic' Workplace Allegations 2025 Premiere Dates For New & Returning Series On Broadcast, Cable & Streaming Owens recently said on the MGoBlue Podcasts with Jon Jansen that casting producers asked for his preferences, to which he said, '45 to 60, just being honest.' After he was selected to lead the new season of The Golden Bachelor, Owens had lunch with a producer and told them, 'If they're 60 or over, I'm cutting them,' adding, 'This is not The Silver Bachelor, this is The Golden Bachelor.' According to Owens, the producer then said, 'But they're going to be hot. Don't worry about it, don't worry about it.' 'So he goes, 'You can't use the word cut,' I go, 'Well, that's an NFL term,'' Owens added. In the conversation with the producer, Owens said he had no say in who was cast on the show, but he specified that the women had 'to be git, because I'm staying in shape and work out and stuff. And I told them [to] try and stay away from artificial hips and the wigs.' Owens follows 72-year-old Gerry Turner, who was the first leading man in the inaugural season of The Golden Bachelor. Turner found love with Theresa Nast, whom he married in January 2024. However, the marriage didn't last long, as three months after exchanging their vows, they announced they were divorcing following his cancer diagnosis.
