How gold deposit find powers Mohan Yadav govt's mining plans for MP
'Mere desh ki dharti sona ugle' is literally happening in the villages of Sihora tehsil in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur district. A Geological Survey of India (GSI) prospecting exercise that concluded recently has found gold reserves spread over an estimated 100 hectares in the Mehgawan region. The findings have generated excitement among the local population as also mining Mahakoshal region in Madhya Pradesh, especially Jabalpur and Katni districts, is a major mining hub. Iron ore and copper are found abundantly, and just south of Jabalpur are manganese reserves in the Balaghat region. Besides major minerals, there are also reserves of marble in said the GSI had been probing the area for a few years, but activity picked up in the last few months. The GSI carried out digging and chemical analysis in the region, which confirmed the presence of gold. According to the sources, an estimation of the reserves would be carried out and thereafter a mining plan the states, major gold deposits are located in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan, with minor traces in Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu. The findings in Madhya Pradesh, therefore, hold new potential. The findings align with the Mohan Yadav government's plans to develop Madhya Pradesh as a mining hub. Interestingly, the primary sector, which includes mining, has grown at a faster pace in the state whereas conventional wisdom has it that with economic growth, the primary sector shrinks at the cost of the secondary and tertiary sectors. While some of this is attributed to the state's strides in agriculture, the growth of mining as a sector is also one of the major reasons.A conclave to attract investment in mining was organised by the state's BJP government in late 2024, which has led to changes in mining policies. Environmentalists are, however, concerned that the gold findings could take a heavy toll on the environment as the region around Jabalpur is rich in flora and to India Today Magazine- EndsMust Watch
