CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Ladybug, a 12-year-old Chihuahua mix at Pet Helpers, will be featured this Sunday in a nationally televised 'Puppy Bowl' as the event's first-ever senior dog coach.
The telecast is meant to raise awareness about pet adoptions with 142 rescue puppies from 80 shelters across 40 states.
Pet Helpers said Ladybug came to Pet Helpers after her owner entered hospice care
The animal shelter on Folly Road said rehoming older pets can be challenging; however, Ladybug has proven that senior dogs have just as much love and energy to give.
'This is an incredible moment for Pet Helpers and for senior dogs everywhere,' said Melissa Susko, Executive Director of Pet Helpers. 'We've had a puppy in the Puppy Bowl before, but to see Ladybug take the field as the first-ever Senior Dog Coach is truly special. We're thrilled to be part of this event again, especially in a way that highlights the love and resilience of older dogs who are so often overlooked. Ladybug is proof that age is just a number, and we can't wait to cheer her on as she helps these puppies put their best paws forward.'
The show will air at 2 p.m. on Animal Plant, Discovery, Max, and Discovery+ among other channels.

Spoleto Festival USA's founding director of chamber music dies at 96

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The founding artistic director of chamber music for Spoleto Festival USA has died at 96, according to festival organizers. Charles Wadsworth, born in rural Georgia in 1929, was a preeminent leader in the field of chamber music and helped expand the genre's populist appeal both at Spoleto and around the world. 'Presenting innovative programming and a stable of consummate soloists, he charmed audiences, encouraged generations of virtuoso musicians, and developed a concert format that propelled chamber music concerts and festivals worldwide,' the festival said in a news release Friday afternoon. A 16-year-old dog named Bronx has melted the hearts of viewers on TikTok after a video documenting his unexpected journey from confusion to paradise went viral. The short clip, posted by his owner under @yuniscreams on April 25, has racked up over 138,000 views and more than 22,000 likes to date, moving viewers on the platform and leading to heartfelt messages in the comments. The video began with a clip of a seemingly forlorn Bronx sitting alone on a bed, looking visibly puzzled. An overlaid text on the clip read: "Have fun in Hawaii." @yuniscreams Bronx goes to Hawaii! Just because he's a senior dog (16 years young) doesn't mean he's too old to travel! if anything he's calmer and easier going now that he has some maturity to him. Do you have a senior doggo? If your vet says its alright, bring them along, senior dogs are the BEST travel companions. #seniordogsoftiktok #chihuahuastiktok #dogtravel #hawaiitiktok ♬ original sound - Maui+Ruby &Hugo The moment sets viewers up for a familiar, bittersweet moment—the assumption that the elderly pet is being left behind as his owners depart on an exciting vacation. But the narrative quickly changed, and the following scene shows the Chihuahua comfortably tucked into a pet carrier, being held by his owner. A new line of text appeared: "You too," revealing that the senior dog is not being abandoned but is, in fact, coming along on the trip. The video then transitions into a montage of delightful clips: Bronx onboard a flight, Bronx at the beach, Bronx basking in the Hawaiian sun. He appears relaxed and joyful, embodying the spirit of a seasoned traveler enjoying the golden years of his life. The post had been captioned: "Bronx goes to Hawaii! If your vet says it's alright, bring them along, senior dogs are the best travel companions." The message behind the video struck a chord with viewers on TikTok, many of whom shared their own stories of aging pets and the joy of including them in life's adventures. "My baby is almost 15, she's been everywhere with us," one viewer said. "Chihuahua's are actually so sweet if raised right," another added. "The last pic was everything," a third viewer shared. "My little guy went to Florida with me on a family vacation in November and went to rainbow bridge a few months after. I'm so glad I took him, 16.5 years together! Worth it!" 15-Year-Old Chihuahua Has Sweetest Way of Declaring It's Time for Bed

If you have toddlers or young children at home, when it comes time to put them to bed, there may be a lot of drama. I remember when my kids were little, we'd have to start putting them to bed an hour before bedtime because it was such a long, drawn-out process! Some pets react to bedtime much differently than human toddlers, though. TikToker Alex Stotler shared a video of what happens when her parents' 15-year-old Chihuahua is ready to hit the hay, and it's the cutest thing you'll see today. Alex says in the video's caption that the little Chihuahua has been bringing his stuffed animal to his mom and dad for years. I love that this is how he says he's done for the day! It's too cute! It's not surprising that Alex's video went viral. It's gotten more than 8 million views, more than a million likes, and over 5 thousand comments! People loved the sweet senior dog's precious bedtime routine! More than 80 thousand people liked @abc's comment, "Why aren't you all jumping up to accommodate him?????" People liked @Lyraa's comment too, giving it more than 30 thousand likes, "Where's the sense of urgency??? He is sleepy!!" We laughed when @Chango Perry said, "Chop chop get in there and fluff his pillows and his blankie. Y'all not moving fast enough haha!" @melaninlife39 also made us laugh when they added, "EVERYBODY go to bed!! LOL!" I loved @lz's comment, and it got more than 22 thousand likes, "The fact that animals have their own little lives at home and routines kicks my heart every time!" @Opendoor pointed out, "The fact that the stuffed animal is bigger than him!!!" @Ghost agreed and got 67 thousand likes for his comment, "That's literally a puppy. Can't convince me otherwise. He's just moving slowly so he doesn't trip over his toy." I love watching videos of pets' cute bedtime routines, and this one is definitely a favorite. It's so endearing to watch how pets communicate with us, and I couldn't help but smile watching this one. Hopefully they tucked him in right after this happened! 15-Year-Old Chihuahua Has Sweetest Way of Declaring It's Time for Bed first appeared on PetHelpful on May 26, 2025
