KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 (Bernama) -- SP Setia Bhd's second quarter (2Q) net profit ended June 30, 2025 (FY2025) dropped to RM99.8 million from RM295.03 million in the same quarter a year ago.
It said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia today that its revenue also eased to RM943.73 million against RM1.49 billion in 2Q FY2024, contributed mostly from local development.
Sales, however, recorded an uptick at RM1.186 billion versus RM883 million in 2Q FY2024, primarily from the group's domestic projects.
For the six-month period ended June 30, 2025 (2H FY2025), net profit was lower at RM166.82 million, versus RM372.36 million in the same period last year.
Revenue also slid to RM1.71 billion compared with RM2.97 billion previously.
Sales were mainly from domestic projects at RM1.42 billion, representing 75 per cent of total sales, while the group's international projects contributed RM480 million or 25 per cent of the total sales.
The group said it has continued to reduce its borrowings, with a current net-gearing ratio of 0.34 times, aligning with the group's debt reduction strategies.
Meanwhile, following the Overnight Policy Rate (OPR) cut, it anticipated growth in the property development industry, particularly the residential segment.
On July 9, 2025, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) cut the OPR by 25 basis points to 2.75 per cent, its first rate cut in five years.

Studying proposal to raise civil servant retirement to 65

Published on: Friday, August 22, 2025 Published on: Fri, Aug 22, 2025 By: Bernama Text Size: KOTA BHARU: The Government will study a proposal to increase the mandatory retirement age for civil servants to 65 during the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK-13) period, said Director-General of Public Service (KPPA) Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz. 'At this stage, I cannot provide any definitive outcome, as the study will only commence during the 13MP and is expected to conclude after the plan ends. Advertisement 'However, PSD (Public Service Department) will begin initial assessment earlier, including benchmarking retirement ages in other countries,' he told reporters after visiting Siti Rubiah Mohammad, the widow of the late Kamal Ariffin Mohamed, a retired officer from the Kota Bharu Municipal Council, under the Santuni Pesara outreach programme here Thursday. Wan Ahmad Dahlan noted that several countries already have higher retirement ages than Malaysia, such as Singapore at 62, and Scandinavian nations, where it can go up to 70. Malaysia, too, has certain schemes with extended retirement, including judges who retire at 66. 'This is not an unusual consideration for the government. However, such a policy shift will require a long-term approach and will not be implemented in isolation. 'PSD will engage with various stakeholders, including retirees' associations, the Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs), and youth associations, as they too will be affected by this policy,' he said. Commenting on concerns that extending the retirement age may affect productivity, Wan Ahmad Dahlan stressed the need for a thorough and evidence-based study. 'We cannot draw premature conclusions. Some countries have successfully maintained productivity despite a higher retirement age,' he added. On July 31, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, when tabling the 13MP, announced that the retirement age policy would be reviewed as part of Malaysia's transition toward becoming an ageing nation. This is outlined in 13MP's Ninth Strategic Focus Area, which emphasises social justice and equal opportunity for all Malaysians. The Prime Minister also noted that any decision must take into account various factors, including financial implications and the potential impact on employment opportunities for younger workers. In May 2025, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said had proposed that the government consider raising the mandatory retirement age from 60 to 65, saying that it is a loss to the nation if individuals are forced to retire at 60 despite still being healthy, energetic, and able to contribute meaningfully to the workforce. Currently, the mandatory retirement age for public sector employees in Malaysia is 60. This is also the minimum retirement age for private sector workers, as stipulated under the Minimum Retirement Age Act 2012. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Gas Malaysia's second-quarter net profit falls

The company's revenue slipped by 9.2% to RM1.8bil compared to RM1.98bil previously. KUALA LUMPUR: Gas Malaysia Bhd 's net profit for the second quarter ended June 30, 2025, (2Q25) fell to RM99.12mil from RM110.05mil in the previous corresponding period. Revenue also slipped by 9.2% to RM1.8bil compared to RM1.98bil previously. In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, Gas Malaysia attributed the lower revenue to a lower average natural gas selling price, mitigated by a higher volume of natural gas sold and a higher tolling fee. For the first half ended June 30, 2025 (1H25), the company's net profit contracted to RM199.25mil from RM212.68mil in the same period last year, while revenue dipped by 5.5% to RM3.64bil from RM3.85bil. Gas Malaysia added that the company had declared on Aug 21, 2025, the first interim dividend of six sen per share. This amounts to RM77.04mil in respect of the financial year ending Dec 31, 2025, which will be paid on Oct 31, 2025. — Bernama

Dayang 2Q bottom line decreases

The company said its revenue fell by 41% to RM267.35mil against RM455.84mil previously. KUALA LUMPUR: Dayang Enterprise Holdings Bhd 's net profit for the second quarter ended June 30, 2025 (2Q25) slipped to RM76.64mil from RM131.43mil in 2Q24. In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the company said its revenue fell by 41% to RM267.35mil against RM455.84mil previously due to a lower vessel utilisation rate of 64% as compared to 91% in 2Q24. This decline was mainly driven by the delay in oil majors' contract commencement and the drydocking of two anchor-handling tug supply vessels in April and June 2025 for ship class extension, it added. For the first half ended June 30, 2025 (1H25), the company's net profit dropped to RM88.95mil against RM159.34mill in 1H24, while revenue slid by 40% to RM421.17mil versus RM702.96mil previously. The company said it is confident that solid activities will continue in the third quarter and taper off in the fourth quarter, given its performance in 2Q25, supported by steady vessel utilisation. — Bernama
