Coaches trust Australia's hard-hitters, says Tim David

Khaleej Times3 days ago
Australia's T20 batters are backed by their coaches to go "all guns blazing" and will likely continue their attacking ways, middle order blaster Tim David said.
David produced a sparkling 83 off 53 balls to guide Australia to a 17-run win in the series-opener against South Africa on Sunday and a record ninth victory in succession.
"We've been playing together as a group now for a while, so there's not a great deal of instruction from the coaches,' said player-of-the-match David in Darwin.
"They trust the players.
"We trust ourselves to go out there and we understand the game situation. We make decisions on the fly because that's the nature of T20 cricket.
"I think if you'd watched our guys bat over the last period, wherever they bat around the world and when they play for the Australian team, it's close to all guns blazing.
"You can probably expect to see that a little bit from our team. That's how we think we play best."
David has been in top form, racking up 215 runs in his past three T20I innings, which includes a 37-ball century against the West Indies in St Kitts last month.
His hot streak has revived queries on whether he might consider reviving an ODI career that lasted only four matches against South Africa in 2023.
However, David was not included in the ODI squad for South Africa and poured cold water on the idea of a return in the near future.
"That's not part of the plan for me," David said.
"To be honest, the things I've been building towards is the T20 World Cup next year and the major tournaments that are leading up to that.
"Honestly, I don't operate much further than the next day ahead."
Australia will look to seal the three-match T20 series against South Africa with another win in Darwin on Tuesday.

South Africa level T20 series after Brevis ton flattens Australia

South Africa levelled the three-match Twenty20 series against Australia after Dewald Brevis smashed an unbeaten 125 off 56 balls to set up their emphatic 53-run victory in the second match in Darwin on Tuesday. Brevis smashed the highest score by a South African batsman in a T20 International to power the tourists to a commanding 218-7 despite a top order wobble at the Marrara Stadium. Australia were bundled out for 165 in 17.4 overs as their nine-match winning streak in the format came to an end. Player of the match Brevis said after being reminded of his record: "I haven't really thought of it like that, to be honest, but I'm just extremely grateful to God and it's been great. "You obviously want to win and come back stronger after the first game, so that was fantastic. "Everyone played their part, whatever it was. We took our catches, the guys nailed their plans, and it was just great." Put in to bat, South Africa began briskly but slumped to 57-3 inside seven overs with skipper Aiden Markram among the dismissed trio. Australia part-time spinner Glenn Maxwell, who opened the attack with Josh Hazlewood, had Markram (18) caught at mid-off and removed Lhuan-dre Pretorius (10) stumped in his next over. Brevis combined with Tristan Stubbs (31) and counter-attacked in spectacular fashion to prop up South Africa. The 22-year-old raced to a 41-ball hundred, his first in T20 Internationals, and remained unbeaten after a knock studded with eight sixes and 12 fours. Australia wobbled early in their reply, losing opener Travis Head to Markram's part-time spin in the second over. Teenaged left-arm pacer Kwena Maphaka (3-57) conceded five fours in his first over but claimed the important wicket of Cameron Green and returned to remove Maxwell and Mitchell Owen. Tim David (50) hit his second half-century of the series but Australia kept losing wickets, which derailed their chase. The teams meet in Cairns on Saturday for the decider.

Bosch reprimanded for breaching ICC Code of Conduct

South Africa all-rounder Corbin Bosch has been reprimanded for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the second T20I against Australia in Darwin on Tuesday. Bosch was found to have breached Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to ' using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match.' In addition to this, one demerit point has been added to Bosch's disciplinary record, for whom it was the first offence in a 24-month period. The incident occurred in the 17th over of Australia's innings, when Bosch, after dismissing Ben Dwarshuis, gestured in the direction of the players' dugout, which could have provoked an aggressive response from the batter. Bosch admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Andy Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, so there was no need for a formal hearing. On-field umpires Phillip Gillespie and Shawn Craig, third umpire Sam Nogajski and fourth umpire Donovan Koch levelled the charge. Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player's match fee, and one or two demerit points. NOTES TO EDITORS: * When a player reaches four or more demerit points within a 24-month period, they are converted into suspension points, and a player is banned ** Two suspension points equate to a ban from one Test or two ODIs or two T20Is, whatever comes first for the player *** Demerit Points to remain on a Player or Player Support Personnel's disciplinary record for a period of twenty-four (24) months from their imposition following which they will be expunged
