F&B batch of Vedanta skills centre get 92 per cent job placement
The participants enrolled for training at the centre also completed a 40-hour course on IT literacy, marking a pivotal step in digital empowerment. For 90 pc of the trainees, it was their first-ever exposure to digital education, upskilling them for a future-ready workforce, Vedanta officials said.
They said the Vedanta Lanjigarh Skill Training initiative launched in collaboration with Odisha Skill Development Authority (OSDA) and NABARD, aims to train more than 1,200 rural youth within a period of three years, using a two-pronged approach, offering training as well as entrepreneurial and employment avenues. Over 700 youth have already been imparted training in different fields under this initiative.
'Initiatives like these are powerful enablers of transformation. They bridge the gap between rural potential and mainstream opportunities,' said NABARD district development manager Maheshwar Das.
Vedanta Alumina Business CEO Pranab Kumar Bhattacharyya said this outstanding placement milestone reflects what is possible when industry and community participation come together. 'We are committed to enabling the aspirations of Kalahandi's youth through focused, outcome-driven skill development programmes,' he asserted.

NABARD, IIT-Roorkee drafting 'Handloom Roadmap' for Assam
Guwahati: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) on Thursday said it is preparing a 'Handloom Roadmap' for Assam in association with IIT-Roorkee. Speaking at a function on National Handloom Day, NABARD Chief General Manager (Assam Region) Loken Das highlighted the bank's major contributions to the state's handloom sector and said over 8,000 weavers have benefitted from various initiatives undertaken by the lender over the last few years. "NABARD, in collaboration with IIT Roorkee, is preparing a comprehensive Handloom Roadmap for Assam. This roadmap aims to provide strategic guidance and ensure sustainable, long-term development of the state's vibrant handloom sector," he added. Das, however, did not share further details, such as a possible timeline to complete the draft of the document. Talking about its various initiatives, the CGM said: "During the last few years, over 8,000 weavers have benefitted from NABARD's initiatives such as skilling, rural enterprise promotion, marketing infrastructure and forming Weavers Producer Organisation (OFPO) with grant support of more than Rs 5.28 crore." Additional support extended by NABARD is assistance for GI registration of handloom products and authorised user facilitation, he added. Speaking on the occasion, Assam Finance Secretary Dilip Kumar Borah lauded the efforts of NABARD for empowering weavers and promoting handloom development. Citing the Handloom Census 2019–20, he noted that Assam has 12.83 lakh weavers, of whom over 90 per cent are women, and 12.54 lakh handlooms. Borah emphasised government support through raw materials, MSP, developing an integrated handloom park in Kaziranga, and silk tourism in Sualkuchi and other areas for promotion of the sector.

‘Farmers' library opened at Ludhiana village under NABARD project
In a step towards promoting good farming practices in the livestock and agricultural sector, a farmers' library was Tuesday inaugurated at Mushkabad FAM Dairy Producer Company Limited, Mushkabad village (Ludhiana). Dr J P S Gill, Vice-Chancellor, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana, said that by visiting this farm library and after reading the farm literature, one will come to know about the latest scientific recommendations of the universities, which will help in enhancing knowledge of farmers, thereby increasing productivity. This farmers' library has been opened under a research project entitled 'Promotion of Farmers Producer Organization (FPO) on dairy Farming in district Ludhiana', operational under Directorate of Extension education and funded by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). Major farm publications of Vet Varsity and Punjab Agricultural University have been distributed to FPO. Farm magazines – 'Vigiyanak Pashu Palan' and 'Changi Kheti' — had already subscribed for five years to this library. Sanjeev Kumar, DDM, NABARD (Ludhiana cluster), said that that FPO is one of the major initiatives of Government of India which can help the farmers to organise themselves into a group, provides a business outlook to the farming system, links farmers with the market so as to improve their socio-economic level. NABARD is providing financial handheld support to the farming community. Dr Rajesh Kasrija, principal investigator, said that this FPO has been registered under the Indian Companies Act, 2013. This FPO is mainly working in the dairy and vegetable sector and has 170 shareholders. He said that a training regarding value addition of milk products will be organised for the Board of Directors of this FPO and value-added milk products will be made and sold by the farming community.
