Earthquake Jolts New Jersey and New York City
The quake hit at 10:18 p.m. and its epicenter was at Hasbrouck Heights, N.J., near Teterboro Airport, according to the Geological Survey. Tremors were felt in parts of New York City, including Brooklyn, as well as Westchester County.
There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties. The New York City emergency management department said it was monitoring.
People across northern New Jersey reported feeling a short, intense shake. Neighborhood chats and social media quickly lit up with people worried that a gas line had exploded or a large tree had fallen.
On 129th Street in Harlem, Bradford Billingsley said he was watching television with friends when his coffee table rattled. 'We both felt a sudden jolt and looked at each other and said, 'was that an earthquake?'' he said.

Wildfire smoke maps show improving air quality forecast for eastern Massachusetts
The sky continues to have a very hazy look to it Tuesday morning in the Boston area as Canadian wildfire smoke affects the air quality in parts of Massachusetts. There are some differences today compared to yesterday. On Monday, there were very few clouds in the area so, any haziness was completely due to the wildfires. Today, we have an abundance of high, cirrus clouds streaming in from the west and southwest. Looking at visible satellite imagery, you can clearly see the brighter white (clouds) mixed with the dimmer, more gray smoke. The National Weather Service has issued an Air Quality Alert for areas north and west of Boston and Worcester for Tuesday. Eastern Massachusetts is no longer included in the alert. Why the change today from yesterday? The predominant airflow at upper levels of the atmosphere remains about the same ... the smoke from the fires in Saskatchewan and Alberta is still largely being directed into the New England. However, at the surface (ground) level, we have easterly winds, off the ocean. That will help to do two things: First, it will mix and dilute the smoky air with some marine air. Second, it will push a lot of the smoke westward, into western New England and New York State (hence why the NWS issued Air Quality Alerts out that way). Therefore, we do not expect these current air quality readings (moderate) to get any worse throughout the day today across eastern Mass. If anything, they may improve slightly. It's the same deal for Wednesday. While the smoke won't completely disperse, an onshore wind will help to keep the airmass in central and eastern Mass. fairly mixed and "clean." The highest concentrations of smoke will remain in western Massachusetts and New York State.

Heat continues to build across Dallas-Fort Worth with plenty of sunshine
Tuesday had a much quieter start with no storms, just a few high clouds and temperatures in the 70s. Yesterday morning, Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport experienced its strongest wind gust on record when a microburst produced an 89 mph wind gust. No significant rain chances are in the forecast for the next several days as high pressure strengthens and shifts back into the area. Today begins a warming trend with highs in the mid-90s, which are still below average for this time of year. Light winds, sunny skies and hot temperatures are all a recipe for another air quality alert today. It will be unhealthy outside for sensitive groups; those with asthma and upper respiratory issues should minimize their time outdoors. As temperatures climb back to near 100 degrees this week, so do "feels-like" temperatures. Heat advisories are likely Thursday into Friday as heat index values climb to 107 degrees.

Scorching triple-digit heat expected to impact parts of Southern California
A significant warm-up is coming to much of Southern California with triple-digit heat expected to scorch parts of the valleys and Inland Empire. Temperatures will remain normal through Tuesday with a gradual increase on Wednesday. Forecasters predict conditions will peak on Thursday. The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for San Bernardino and Riverside County valleys. It will go into effect at 10 a.m. on Wednesday and remain until 8 p.m. on Friday. Weather officials say temperatures in these areas are expected to reach up to 105 degrees. KCAL News has also issued a Next Weather Alert for Thursday and Friday to warn communities about the upcoming weather event that may alter their daily routines. It has been issued for all communities except the coast. KCAL Meteorologist Marina Jurica says the widespread heat will bring some of the hottest afternoon temperatures of the year in some areas. Maximum temperature forecast for Thursday: The hot conditions will also increase the risk of fire danger. The NWS says that if a fire starts, elevated fire behavior and growth could be expected. Weather officials suggest people drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun, stay in air-conditioned rooms and minimize outdoor physical activities.
