Lorde's global critically acclaimed fourth studio album Virgin (out now via EMI Music Australia, here / Universal Music New Zealand, here) has just made her triumphant return to #1 on the Aotearoa Music Charts (NZ), ARIA Albums Chart (AU), the Official Albums Chart (UK) and #2 on the Billboard 200 (US). Co-produced by Lorde, Jim-E Stack and Dan Nigro, Virgin represents a bold sonic evolution that balances maximalist production with her signature lyrical intimacy across 11 tracks, capturing the phosphorescence that has always defined her artistry. Virgin features ' What Was That ', ' Man Of The Year ', ' Hammer ', ' Favourite Daughter ' and ' Shapeshifter '.
'…introspection and euphoria in strikingly theatrical show…the New Zealand star just about manages to unite the disparate tones of her song catalogue in a rousing and elegant live show' – The Guardian
'Solar Power with its anthemic, chanted chorus fairly blows the roof off the arena; Green Light absolutely bangs; and the encore, Royals becomes a shared fever dream, taking us out on an all-time high.' – Stuff NZ
'…wrapped up her Solar Power world tour with an emotional and spectacular performance under the stars…Lorde's vocals were absolute perfection, clear and crisp, cutting through the air and echoing out into the intimate space.' – The West Australian
Embarking on her biggest tour to date, the Ultrasound World Tour will kick off on September 17 in Austin (TX) and has already sold-out multiple nights at iconic venues including Madison Square Garden (NYC), O2 Arena (London), AFAS Live (Amsterdam) and Barclays Center (Brooklyn, NY).

NZ musicians concerned about implications of AI

New Zealand's musicians are watching on with a mix of horror and wonder as artificial intelligence programmes create increasingly plausible songs ... often with just a few clicks of a button. Just weeks ago a band called the 'Velvet Sundown' rose up the Spotify charts before it was revealed all their music had been generated by AI. As the technology continues to evolve at breakneck speed, artists and producers here are concerned about the lack of regulation around the tech. To find out what risks and potential benefits AI may hold for Aotearoa's music industry, Evie Richardson tested out some of the tech on offer. Hi Viz Manaaki: The story of our Maori Wardens

Mātua Peter Walden Photo: SUPPLIED/RNZ Māori Wardens have a long and proud history in Aotearoa providing advice, support and aroha to the communities they don't just serve - but help to build. Documented in a new podcast - Hi Viz Manaaki: Māori Wardens - hosted by Murdoch Ngahau and Dr Amber Hamill, their story is a particularly personal one for Murdoch. A chance meeting with Kirikiriroa Māori Warden, Joyce Williams as an 11-year-old, changed his life. Murdoch and Amber who also co-wrote and produced the series, talk to Mihi about how a chat at a community radio station became a six-part series. Booktowns saving towns: Peter Biggs

Arts and culture can help revitalise a once prosperous town - Featherston, Aotearoa's only Booktown and one of 23 worldwide, is the living proof. The Featherston Booktown Karuakatea Festival started a decade ago and takes place every year in Wairarapa over the second weekend in May, with lots of events and scores of authors. The founder and chair of Featherston Booktown, Peter Biggs, has just been elected President of the International Association of Booktowns. Featherston Booktown Festival 2023. Photo: © Pete Monk
