MANCHESTER UNITED have launched an all-out bid to land Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.
Slovenian ace Sesko and Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins formed the two man shortlist as United sought to give Ruben Amorim the firepower he craves.

But with Villa insistent that no deal for their England front man will be considered, United switched their sights and are now aiming to blow Newcastle out of the water to land the £70m-plus Sesko.
United director of recruitment Christopher Vivell and negotiator Matt Hargreaves flew out to Germany in a bid to get the deal over the line, although the Old Trafford club will try to negotiate Leipzig's asking price down.
Vivell was previously with the Red Bull group that owns Leipzig and Sesko's previous club Salzburg for seven years and knows the 6ft 5in striker, 22, well.
In a recent interview in Germany, Vivell said: 'Benjamin Sesko is among the game's top young talents and has enormous potential to become a top player. He has all the qualities to do that.
'He's extremely quick, has a great jump on him and is strong in the air. Benjamin is a real goalscorer, who is mobile and technically strong. His abilities make him a special player with a special profile.'
Sun Sport understands that Sesko, who was also on Arsenal's shortlist over the summer, would prefer to move to Old Trafford rather than Tyneside.
That is despite the fact that Newcastle offer the prospect of Champions League football, while United have no European football at all this season.
Toon boss Eddie Howe is also thought to be growing apprehensive about his prospects of landing Sesko, who has scored 39 goals over his two seasons in the Bundesliga, now that United are making their move.

But Leipzig are unlikely to roll over and hand Sesko to United on a plate.
They are sticking to their £70m valuation and dismissed all attempts by Arsenal to bargain them down, leading to the Gunners eventually landing Viktor Gyokeres instead.

According to Delo, Sesko has decided to join Newcastle , with the Magpies beating off strong competition from Old Trafford to land one of Europe's most promising young attackers. The Slovenian outlet reports that Newcastle's proposal won out after a drawn-out saga that saw Arsenal, United, and Newcastle all linked. Arsenal dropped out earlier this summer, opting instead for Viktor Gyokeres, while United had turned their full attention to Sesko after ending their pursuit of Aston Villa 's Ollie Watkins. United's interest was led by director of recruitment Christopher Vivell, who previously worked with Sesko at RB Salzburg and has described the 6ft 4in forward as having the potential to become one of the world's top strikers. Manager Ruben Amorim had also made him a priority, having already brought in Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo to strengthen the attack. But Sesko is now said to have chosen Newcastle — a decision that may be closely tied to the uncertain future of Alexander Isak. Mail Sport revealed on Friday that Liverpool had a £110million bid for Isak rejected, with Newcastle holding out for £150m. Isak is believed to be pushing for a move and has been training alone at former club Real Sociedad, having pulled out of the Magpies' pre-season tour with an apparent thigh issue. Newcastle have made clear that no sale will go ahead unless a suitable replacement is secured — and Sesko has long been top of their wishlist. The Bundesliga side signed Sesko from Red Bull Salzburg in 2023 and have an informal agreement to allow him to leave if a suitable offer is made. It is understood that Newcastle will be expected to pay Leipzig somewhere between £60m and £70m plus add-ons. Sesko scored 21 goals in all competitions last season and has 16 goals in 41 senior appearances for Slovenia. He has drawn comparisons to Erling Haaland for his blend of height, pace and technical ability — and is seen by Newcastle as a ready-made replacement should Isak get his wish. As for Man United, they may now be forced to explore alternatives. Amorim's side struggled badly in front of goal last season and were hoping Sesko would be the final piece in a new-look forward line. Rasmus Hojlund's future remains unclear, with the Dane insisting he wants to stay and fight for his place — but competition was always expected. United have also made enquiries about Brentford's Yoane Wissa, while Wolves' Jorgen Strand Larsen has been discussed too.

Southampton clinch Premier prize at SuperCup NI as one goal enough to topple Manchester United
That's how the 2025 SuperCup NI ended as the Saints marked a first, not just by winning the Premier tournament but tasting success in the competition for the first-ever time. The kids from the south of England celebrated on Northern Ireland's north coast after a performance that mixed coolness and composure with pace and quality in attack – although all they could muster was a single goal. Jude Daniels did the trick eight minutes into the second-half to win the Final and that was enough to give them the trophy. The Saints' front three of Kynan Duffy, Daniels and Marley Parry created constant problems for the United defence without being able to find the space to get too many shots in on Darlington Osuchukwu's goal. It was that type of game with few chances, and one goal was always likely to win it. When it came, Daniels' strike was worthy of winning any Final. The build-up, the final pass and the finish were all of an extremely high standard for players in their mid-teens. The move really got going with a beautiful exchange of passes between Archie Lovatt and Max Little, who was hugely impressive in midfield. Little laid the ball off to Parry on the left of the box and, with one touch, he found Daniels on the six-yard line, and he also only needed one touch to divert the ball into the net. United had their chances, the best of them in the first-half. The impressive Edson DeJonge-Seiros broke through on the left after a great pass by Emmanuel Ziro, and after beating George Wells, his shot went across the face of goal inches ahead of the line. The Southampton defence parted as Samuel O'Brien ran through and George Moloney had to make a good save, and then early in the second-half, Jacey Carrick's shot from distance was pushed to the side and Ziro could only send the rebound wide of the far post. Those who came to see if Kai Rooney could outdo his famous father Wayne and win the competition he graced 25 years previously weren't treated to a goal, but there were moments in which he showed why it's not just his name that makes him so highly rated. He brought a huge cheer from the crowd early on with a twist, turn and shot that many thought had found its way in, but the ball had instead ruffled the netting after coming off the advertising boards. Rooney then hit the side netting just after Southampton scored, screwed a shot high and wide and then, with his best move of the match late in the game, tricked past the Saints defence and pulled the ball back diagonally across the box – but agonisingly, nobody could latch onto it. United did have two more big chances to force a penalty shoot-out. Southampton goalkeeper Moloney produced a superb save to deny Ziro from point-blank range and then, from a corner deep in injury-time, Gazimagamed Ibragimov headed just over the bar. The sound of 'When the Saints go marching in' filled the air above the Coleraine Showgrounds as the Southampton youngsters lifted the trophy, and when they went marching in towards the changing room, they did so as winners. County Down took third place after a 1-0 win over Hamilton Academical, while Ichifuna defeated Intercontinental 6-1 to take the Globe competition. County Londonderry were 2-0 winners against Brighton and Hove Albion in the Vase, and County Armagh won the Bowl Final, beating County Antrim 3-2.
