Nia DaCosta, Andrew Ahn, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Kyle MacLachlan, and Eliza Hittman to Serve on Tribeca Festival 2025 Jury
The 2025 Tribeca Festival is bringing the best of the best together to select this year's festival awards. IndieWire can announce that Nia DaCosta, Andrew Ahn, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Kyle MacLachlan, Eliza Hittman, and more acclaimed filmmakers will be among the jury members for festival, which will take place June 4 through 15.
The Tribeca Festival, presented by OKX, will honor works across 15 competition categories. In addition, the Nora Ephron Award will honor an exceptional female filmmaker who represents the spirit and vision of the legendary filmmaker and writer. The winners in each category will be announced at the Tribeca Festival ceremony on June 12.

'28 Years Later: The Bone Temple' director Nia DaCosta will lead the jury for the U.S. Narrative Feature Competition, which also includes Bleecker Street head Kent Sanderson, 'The Underground Railroad' and 'Nickel Boys' author Colson Whitehead, 'Fight Club' and 'Fast Times at Ridgemont High' producer Art Linson, and 'Come Sunday' director Joshua Marston.
The jury for the U.S. International Narrative Feature Competition consists of 'Succession' star Dagmara Dominczyk, 'Twin Peaks' actor Kyle MacLachlan, Metrograph Pictures' head David Laub, 'Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny' star Toby Jones, and 'L'arte della gioia' director Valeria Golino.
Jurors for the 2025 Documentary Feature Competition are Imagine Documentaries president Sara Bernstein, Breakwater Studios' founder Ben Proudfoot, and 'Romy and Michele's High School Reunion' icon Mira Sorvino.
The Best New Narrative Director Competition jurors include 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' star Matthew Broderick, Paramount Pictures EVP of Worldwide Acquisitions Sejin Croninger, and 'Never Rarely Sometimes Always' director Eliza Hittman. For the Best New Documentary Director Competition, 'Pray Away' director Kristine Stolakis, 'Jazz Fest: A New Orleans Story' producer Sean Stuart, and 'Girls Gone Wild: The Untold Story' director Jamila Wignot serve on the jury.
The coveted Nora Ephron Award recipient will be selected by 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' actress Caroline Aaron, 'Schitt's Creek' alum Annie Murphy, and Head of Indie Film Licensing at Hulu, Aijah Keith.
Brian Jordan Alvarez, Jennifer Beals, Raúl Castillo, Alex Karpovsky, and Mickey Sumner will select the 2025 Viewpoints Competition winner, while short film jurors include Ilana Glazer, Havana Rose Liu, Sheila Nevins, and more. The AT&T Untold Stories Greenlight Committee ranges from director Andrew Ahn to Oscar-nominated actresses Stephanie Hsu and Marianne Jean-Baptiste, plus Gina Rodríguez.

It's not every day you get to bring your vigilante artistry to Gotham City. That joyous privilege and the power of practical effects was top of mind for 'The Penguin' star Colin Farrell and makeup designer Mike Marino, accepting the 2025 IndieWire Honors Wavelength award for their striking partnership in HBO's gritty superhero spinoff. 'We were two big kids in a really vast sandbox,' said Farrell at the Los Angeles event on June 5. 'Both of us grew up watching genre films. I grew up watching Danny DeVito. Well, I know I haven't fully grown up. I think we've established that. And we go to go to work every day and play in the sandbox. It was such a joy [and] nightmare Mike Marino's canvas.' 'Just clay, glue, rubber, inspiration, and the intention to create something special. There was no AI involved here. No shortcuts, just time, thought, and trust. Colin Farrell was fully committed.' Academy Award nominee Farrell reflected on his experience growing up 'enthralled' by Burgess Meredith's performance as The Penguin. He also shared the fear he felt taking on the role at first. 'Matt Reeves wrote the film 'The Batman,' and I was lucky enough to get the role of The Penguin in that. Then, Lauren LeFranc wrote this show, but it was only when I saw Mike's design of the visage of Oz Cobb that I couldn't leave it. Before that I was struggling to think of what I could bring to the project. I was going, 'I'm just going to be flat as fuck and it's going to be terrible.'' But looking at Marino's design for the first time, Farrell said, 'I couldn't believe it. I kind of got emotional because as I said, I'm 49 going on 10 sometimes and I just got so man is an extraordinary, extraordinary artist. I am so grateful.' He went to thank the legendary Christopher Tucker, the makeup artist on 'The Elephant Man' who inspired Marino to take up the craft. Farrell continued, 'Things are ever shifting now in a business where everything is going towards tech, and I understand that. I'm not like campaigning for pigeons with notes in their talons. But I also notice that there is a kind of edging away from practical makeup and the magic and the artistry and the tactility and the immediacy and the beauty of practical makeup.' Speaking on existential evolutions within the industry, Marino said, 'It takes many thousands of steps to do something so realistic. When you think you know what someone looks like in your mind and then you want to see it come to life, it's a huge task. We're in time when AI can create basically anything convincingly right now. That does make it a substitute for human creativity. If we want to protect the soul of filmmaking, we have to protect the people who make it.' Ryan Gosling's ‘Star Wars: Starfighter': Everything to know as Mia Goth takes on the Mikey Madison role
This is as close as we're going to get a Barbie-MaXXXine crossover. Mia Goth is joining the new Ryan Gosling-powered Star Wars installment, Starfighter, taking over the role originally offered Anora Oscar winner Mikey Madison. The casting coup is the latest scrap of news about the anticipated project, which will be helmed by Shawn Levy and which had its coming-out party at Star Wars Celebration in April 2025. Levy says that Starfighter will cover new territory in franchise storytelling and won't feature any of the major characters from prior releases. 'This is a standalone. It's not a prequel, not sequel. It's a new adventure. It's set in a period of time that we haven't seen explored yet,' the filmmaker said. 'The reality is that this script is just so good. It has such a great story with great and original characters,' said Gosling. 'It's filled with so much heart and adventure, and there just really is not a more perfect filmmaker for this particular story than Shawn.' Starfighter the movie is not related to the 2001 video game of the same name from LucasArts that was set on the planet of Naboo during the time period of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. IBEW Touts 'Landmark' New Tentative Agreement With CBS
The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, the largest union representing CBS employees, has reached a new tentative agreement with the network that it calls a 'landmark' deal with 'one of the most significant wage packages in the nearly 90-year history of the relationship.' 'This tentative agreement reflects a new era of partnership and progress that recognizes the important contributions of IBEW-represented technicians while embracing the challenges and opportunities of the future,' IBEW International President Kenneth W. Cooper said in a statement Tuesday.
