Shadow Labyrinth release date and when you can play the bizarro Pac-Man metroidvania
The eerie and sinister interpretation of Pac-man's lore, Shadow Labyrinth, is preparing for its debut on various platforms, including the much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2.
Do you remember Secret Level? We barely do, despite it having its moments. The Prime Video anthology series had a plethora of peculiar ideas about the video games it featured, with the origin of Mega Man receiving a spotlight and a new story involving a mash-up of different properties serving as the most buzzed-about episode, largely due to the surprise appearance of some Helldivers.
However, one episode did manage to raise eyebrows. A dark, sticky and warped version of Pac-Man was unveiled in the episode titled Circle, which reimagined the iconic yellow character as a demonic and savage parasite that manipulates its host into becoming a vessel for its insatiable hunger for all living things. It's an utterly bizarre reinterpretation of what is essentially a pixelated ball navigating a simple maze, but it certainly grabbed attention – and now it's set to grab even more as its video game adaptation, the metroidvania title Shadow Labyrinth, is nearly upon us.
It's slated to launch on multiple consoles, but most notably, it will be part of the Nintendo Switch 2 2025 line-up. Here's wishing it the best, especially as it's launching close to the release date of Donkey Kong Bananza.
The game fully embraces its concept, challenging you to navigate a maze teeming with monsters and horrors, battling your way to the end of what is set to be – you've guessed it – a labyrinthine journey. But when exactly does it drop?
Here's everything you need to know about the Shadow Labyrinth release date.

Shadow Labyrinth release date
The release date for Shadow Labyrinth is scheduled for Friday, July 18 at midnight local time, excluding most US timezones. This information has been disclosed on the game's page on the PlayStation Store.
This midnight timing is consistent across all timezones except in the United States, where the game will become available at 12am EDT nationwide, resulting in a 9pm PDT / 11pm CDT launch time on Thursday, July 17. It's a somewhat perplexing arrangement, but at least players across the US might have the opportunity to start playing the game simultaneously with their mates on the other side of the country.
After all, uncovering this peculiar world and deciphering all its mysteries is likely to be a hefty task, so we might require some intellectual reinforcement.

Bryan Mbeumo explains key reason why he rejected Arsenal to join Manchester United
Bryan Mbeumo had approaches from other clubs who could offer him Champions League football next season, like Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham, but chose Manchester United because of the challenge New Manchester United signing Bryan Mbeumo will not be fazed by playing in front of 75,000 fans at Old Trafford. But ask him to play the piano – a hobby he took up to relax away from football – in front of a few people and the forward is gripped by anxiety. 'The piano just makes me take time for me and relax myself in my free time,' said Mbeumo, who joined United from Brentford in a deal worth up to £71million. 'But the thing is, I don't really like to play in front of people. It's funny, but it's so different. Even if I play in front of a couple of friends at home, I'm not exactly shaking but it's 'oh guys, this is kind of hard for me'.' As well as the piano, Mbeumo has developed a passion for chess and plays online anonymously, his opponents unaware they are up against a Premier League superstar. 'Playing online is anonymous,' said Mbeumo. 'I have a username, you choose a nickname and just play against random people online. 'With chess, there is a lot of thought. When you play football, you have to think as well. Playing chess, you can see some moves ahead, because it's a strategy game. In football you have your strategy as well so you can link them together. 'I'm not crazy good. But if you know the rating, I'm like 800 on There was a period when I was really, really into it, watching videos on YouTube and doing training on the app. For the brain, it's really, really good and you can develop new skills. 'Obviously you're doing football most of the time, every day, so sometimes you don't really have time to develop other skills. But I like creativity and stuff.' Mbeumo had approaches from other clubs who could offer him Champions League football next season, like Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham, but chose United because of the challenge of helping to resurrect the fallen giants. 'I spoke to some other managers because I wanted to hear their projects,' said Mbeumo, who scored 20 league goals last season. 'But the Manchester United one was very good for me. 'United is a big club. It's a great opportunity and I chose the project. I'm someone who likes a challenge. There is a very good project here and I wanted to be a part of it. 'I always trust my people around me. The transfer window can be long, it can be short. So you have to be patient and just try to keep thinking positively about things. 'I was obviously on my holidays, so I just wanted to think about resting mentally and physically. But I was convinced that it was going to happen. 'The manager said 'we are people who like winning and we want to be the best team'. It was a very friendly conversation. He explained his project to me, what he wanted to do and I really clicked on that. 'Another part as well is because you want to play on the greatest stages in the world and Old Trafford is one of them. So being able to play there every two weeks is big.'

What is Chantaines in The Assassin?
The Prime Video series has been gripping viewers The Assassin only landed last week, but the show has already shot to the top of Prime Video in the UK as audiences binge through the thriller. The six-part series follows retired hit woman Julie Green (played by Keeley Hawes), who is pulled onto one last job - but there's more to it than she could ever have imagined. Adding another layer of complexity is that Julie's estranged son Edward Green (Freddie Highmore) has come to visit her after several years. What starts out as a run-of-the-mill job turns into something much bigger with Julie and Edward going on the run as they try to uncover the truth. The series from the makers of The Tourist and The Missing has left fans with many questions and surprise after realising one cast member's iconic role - here's the answer to two of the biggest mysteries of the show. What is Chantaines in The Assassin? The big mystery of the show was the word 'Chantaines' after Kayla Cross (Shalom Brune-Franklin) asked right from episode one what it all meant. Chantaines was the name of Kayla's mother's French poodle, which was in turn was named after a marmalade that she'd become obsessed with. However, Chantaines was actually the codeword for the hit Kayla's parents ordered on a French arms dealer Jean-Luc Bertrand. Aaron Cross (Alan Dale) and his wife ordered the hit to 'erase' Jean-Luc after they borrowed money from him when their lucrative company CGM fell on hard times during its early days. Details of Chantaines were in Kayla's mother's suicide note, which Aaron had tried to keep from his children. Sadly, the guilt of the ordered murder pushed her to take her own life, while Aaron was left living with their decision. Julie confirmed she had been assigned to the French Poodle hit, which also had another shocking twist and coincidence to it. Who is Edward's dad in The Assassin? There were plenty of red herrings before Edward's father was finally revealed. Edward's father was Jean-Luc, who was killed by Julie and the same arms dealer the Cross family had ordered the hit on. Julie had believed the house was empty apart from the arms dealer and was shocked to discover Jean-Luc's family, including his wife Marie (Gina Gershon) and infant son Florent were also in the property. Marie revealed to Edward that Julie had shot her in the head after killing Jean-Luc, believing she was dead. Julie had then heard Florent crying out and had kidnapped him, hoping to provide the child with a better and less dangerous life. So, she had lied to Edward/Florent to protect him from the truth. Despite getting shot, Marie had survived and remained in a coma before eventually coming to. She had vowed to take revenge on Julie and be reunited with her surrogate son Florent. Marie also confirmed she wasn't Edard's mother and never wanted children, so Jean-Luc had used a surrogate to have a child. The show ended with Edward/Florent going off to meet his real mother with Julie accompanying him and Kayla.

PS5 Slim falls to cheapest price this year but Amazon can't beat this rival deal
Amazon has slashed £100 off the PlayStation 5 Slim Digital console, but gamers may want to check out this rival deal that comes with a free game. The PlayStation 5 Slim has fallen to its cheapest price this year as two rival retailers slash £100 off the price. Gamers can now pick up the PS5 Slim Digital Console for £329 at Amazon rather than the usual £429.99. This represents a 23% saving and is the lowest price offered since December 2024, according to price tracker camelcamelcamel. However, shoppers can get their hands on a free game by heading to Very, where the PS5 Slim Digital Edition Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Bundle is now available for the same price. This means Call of Duty fans can get a PS5 console with the latest instalment of the first-person shooter franchise for the same price as the console on its own, but Very says the bundle is 'selling fast'. According to the retailer, Black Ops 6 has been optimised for the PS5 with reduced loading times compared to the PS4, as well as 4K visuals, adaptive triggers and haptic feedback support. Sony launched the PS5 Slim in November 2023 as a more compact version of the original PS5 console. It's 24% lighter and 30% smaller than its predecessor, but boasts 1TB of storage compared to the PS5's 825GB. It also features a second USB-C port, plus 4K graphics and HDR technology, with haptic feedback and adaptive trigger functionality on the DualSense wireless controller. The PS5 Slim is an alternative for shoppers still struggling to get their hands on the Nintendo Switch 2. Since launching in April, some retailers such as GAME and Smyths Toys are still out of stock of the console and are only offering the Nintendo Switch 2 and Mario Kart World bundle. But for PlayStation fans, the PS5 Slim Digital has achieved a 4.7-star rating after more than 1,000 Amazon reviews. One buyer said: 'Not disappointed. So quick to download, great graphics and good build quality. Upgrading from my PS4 was a breeze and transferred over so quickly. The games with a PS5 version downloaded without me doing anything. So happy.' Another said: 'The PS5 is the next gen console we had all been hoping for. The load times are lightning fast and the ability to switch between the home screen and game has virtually no lag. The games play remarkably fast with no slow down or poor rendering. The sound is also great.' This buyer had an issue with their PS5 controller, saying: 'Console is great, controller is not. After three to four months, I can't play anything because of the controllers Sony are making now - way too much stick drift.' It's worth noting that consumers can purchase spare or additional controllers if they do experience issues. This five-star review said: 'Great console. I have been needing to upgrade from a PS4 for a while and finally decided to go for it. Best decision I've made in a while. It's so much faster and for the games I've tried the loading times are basically non-existent. Couldn't really ask for more.'
