LSU clinches spot in College World Series final after Arkansas botches game in most brutal fashion

New York Post5 hours ago

An already insane game between LSU and Arkansas in the College World Series had a fitting ending as the Tigers advanced to the championship series for the second consecutive time.
Down 5-3 in the bottom of the ninth on Wednesday night in Omaha, Neb., it looked as though the Razorbacks were on the verge of victory, but a misplayed ball with two outs kept LSU alive and led to its eventual win.
Luis Hernandez lined a two-out ball into left field, and it looked as though Charles Davalan was going to make the catch for the final out.

Nevertheless, Davalan seemed to misread where the ball was going to go and was forced to scramble as he raced to try to make a catch, unsuccessfully diving as it hit off his glove and rolled away.
It allowed Ethan Frey and Steven Milam to score and tie the game at five as the crowd in Omaha went ballistic at what had just occurred.

But the dramatics weren't done there.
Jared Jones, who had already hit a game-tying solo home run in the eighth inning, then stepped up to the plate and hit one off the glove of Arkansas second baseman Cam Kozeal that went into the outfield and allowed the game-winning run to score.

It capped a wild game in which Arkansas let a 1-0 lead slip away in the sixth inning before the Razorbacks got a 3-2 lead in the top of the eighth inning, only to see that disappear in the bottom half.

After the heroics, Jones ran over to where his parents were sitting and hugged his dad and mom.
The win sets the stage for a showdown in the championship series between LSU and Coastal Carolina, which is set to begin on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Angel Reese Had Four Words for Former LSU Teammate on Wednesday

Angel Reese Had Four Words for Former LSU Teammate on Wednesday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Aneesah Morrow is one of the most promising rookies in the WNBA this season. The 6-foot-1 forward, who was taken with the No. 7 pick in this year's draft by the Connecticut Sun, put up big numbers in four NCAA seasons. Advertisement She has gotten little playing time and has struggled so far in the pros. But on Wednesday, she started to display some of the potential that people have seen in her. Against the Phoenix Mercury, she played 23 minutes and scored 16 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the field, to go along with nine rebounds and three steals. Although the Sun lost, 83-75, it was an auspicious outing for her. Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese, Morrow's former teammate at LSU, gave Morrow some props in a post on X. "PRETTY GRITTY😍 GO NEES!" the caption read. Morrow, who is a native of Chicago, played her first two seasons of college basketball at DePaul, which is located in the Windy City. She transferred to LSU for the 2023-24 season, which allowed her to team up with Reese. Advertisement The Tigers were coming off winning the women's NCAA championship in 2023 over Caitlin Clark's Iowa Hawkeyes. In 2024, Morrow and Reese took them to the Elite Eight round, where Clark and crew got their revenge over the Tigers. This past season, after Reese was drafted by the Sky, Morrow and LSU lost again in the Elite Eight, this time to UCLA. Let's analyze BetMGM Sportsbook's MLB odds around the Pirates vs. Tigers odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets. (Records, trends and stats do not include the first game of Thursday's doubleheader.) Season series: Tigers lead 1-0. Pittsburgh has lost 3 games in a row after falling 7-3 as a +175 underdog to Detroit in Tuesday's opener with the Over (8) cashing. RF Alexander Canario had 1 of the Pirates' 5 hits and finished with a team-high 2 RBIs in the losing effort. Detroit snapped a 2-game losing streak with the win, covering as a -192 home favorite. SS Javier Baez (3-for-4) went deep twice -- both solo shots -- in the win. Pirates at Tigers projected starters RHP Paul Skenes vs. TBD Skenes (4-6, 1.78 ERA) makes his 16th start. While Skenes' record doesn't reflect it, he has been one of MLB's most dominant pitchers, evidenced by his league-best ERA and WHIP (New York Mets RHP Kodai Senga sports a 1.47 ERA, but he hasn't pitched enough innings to qualify). Skenes should benefit from playing in the back half of a doubleheader and worn-down Tigers lineup. The Pirates have not produced enough offense this season to bet the run line, but behind Skenes they have the clear advantage in the nightcap. PASS. The Pirates have scored 3 or fewer runs in 8 of their last 10 games, taking away any value of backing their run line. BET UNDER 7 (-105). The Under is 8-2 in the Pirates' last 10 games. They have scored 2 or fewer runs in 7 of the 10, including in 4 of their last 5. With Skenes on the mound, don't expect the Tigers to score much. Detroit has scored 4 or fewer runs in 4 of its last 6 and in 7 of its last 10, while allowing 3 or fewer in 5 of the last 10. Play our free daily Pick'em Challenge and win! Play now!
