What is Juneteenth, America's newest federal holiday?
Juneteenth marks the emancipation of enslaved Black Americans. It became a federal holiday in 2021.
Juneteenth is this Thursday, and if you need to mail a package or conduct a banking transaction you may want to consider planning ahead.
That is because most national banks and the United States Postal Service will be closed on Thursday, June 19 in observance of the federal holiday.
Juneteenth, known as American's Second Independence Day, has been commemorated as a federally-recognized holiday since 2021, providing millions of Americans with a paid day off and the opportunity to commemorate the end of slavery.
The holiday commemorates the day when Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas in 1865 with 2,000 Union troops to proclaim that more than 250,000 enslaved Black people in the state were free – two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation on Jan. 1, 1863.
Here's what you need to know about banks, post offices and shipping services, and whether or not they'll be open on Juneteenth.
When is Juneteenth 2025?
Juneteenth is always celebrated on June 19. This year, the date falls on a Thursday.
Is the post office open on Juneteenth? Will mail be delivered?
All post offices will be closed for retail transactions and there will be no regular residential or business mail deliveries on Thursday, June 19, according to the U.S. Postal Service's website.
Priority Mail Express is available 365 days a year, including federal holidays.
Are banks open on Juneteenth?
Branches of Bank of America, Wells Fargo, PNC, Truist, CitiBank, JPMorgan Chase and Capital One will be closed on the holiday, the companies confirmed to USA TODAY. Capital One Cafes will remain open.
Is UPS open on Juneteenth? Will packages be delivered?
UPS pickup and delivery services will be available on Juneteenth, according to the company's website. UPS Store locations will also be open. Check with your local store for specific hours of operation.
Is FedEx open on Juneteenth? Will packages be delivered?
FedEx pickup and delivery services will be available on June 19, according to the company's website. FedEx Office locations will also be open.

The Morning After: Trump Mobile is a thing

Oh, Gold. It's not April 1, it's just a weird surprise. Donald Trump is launching a phone called Trump Mobile, which comes with wireless plans (starting at $47.25) and even a phone called the T1 Phone. During the announcement event at Trump Tower in New York City, Donald Trump Jr. said they were building something for 'people who have been underserved,' and to 'make sure that real Americans could get true value from their mobile carriers.' (Trump Mobile's only plan is roughly double that of equivalent offerings at other low-cost carriers, like Mint Mobile and Boost Mobile.) It's not just phone service, however: The plan will supposedly include a telemedicine service powered by Doctegrity, roadside assistance provided by Drive America and mobile device protection by Omega Mobile Care. The T1 Phone will be a gold-accented (of course) smartphone manufactured in the United States. So expect to factor that into what it might eventually cost. ( Bloomberg has reported it will be a $500 device.) According to the Trump Mobile site, the T1 phone will have 6.8-inch AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, a rear three-camera setup with a 50MP main camera and a '5000mAh long life camera,' which we're all guessing is meant to say battery. — Mat Smith Get Engadget's newsletter delivered direct to your inbox. 4 Key Reasons Retirement Is Out of Reach for Many Older Americans

Over half of Americans aged 55 and up said debt has held them back from retirement, and 67% said they plan to continue working during the years they originally thought they'd be retired, according to a recent survey conducted by Talker Research on behalf of National Debt Relief. Read Next: Check Out: For many, retirement is no longer a planned date but a moving target they're finding difficult to reach anytime soon. Here are some key reasons retirement is on the back burner for many older Americans. Also see 35 retirement planning mistakes you're wasting money on. More than 7 in 10 older Americans say they're in debt, according to the Talker Research and National Debt Relief survey, and it's not just the amount that's concerning. Over half of those carrying debt say they feel overwhelmed and worry they'll never pay it off. According to AARP, nearly half (47%) of older adults who carry credit card balances are using them to cover basic living expenses, like food and utilities, because they don't have enough income to get by. And about 17% rely on credit cards to meet those needs every month. Learn More: Older adults are carrying debt from multiple sources, which can add up, especially if the payments are hundreds of dollars each. The Talker Research and National Debt Relief survey reported the following about the debt of older adults: 45% have credit card debt, averaging $9,000 with monthly payments of $418. 30% still owe on mortgages, averaging $72,000, paying about $797 monthly. 17% carry medical debt, averaging $9,144, with $222 paid monthly. 22% have auto loans, averaging $17,000, paying $446 a month. AARP reported that many older Americans are carrying mortgage debt longer because refinancing has become more popular. According to Talker Research, the average older adult with debt has about $29,187 in savings. But 61% of respondents said they definitely don't have enough to live comfortably in retirement. Nearly half say they have $20,000 or less in savings, and 22% report having no savings at all. Even those still working don't feel prepared, as 48% said they aren't set up for retirement success. According to a recent Gallup Poll, 40% of Americans report not having a retirement savings plan. More than 80% of those surveyed said they were worried about the future of Social Security. Among those in debt, 76% said they don't believe Social Security will provide enough income to support them through retirement. And it's not a sentiment restricted to these particular survey respondents. A recent AP-NORC poll found that nearly 30% of adults aged 60 and older are 'not very' or 'not at all' confident Social Security will be there for them, up from about 20% in 2023. Kraft Heinz Commits to Remove FD&C Colors From Its U.S. Portfolio Before the End of 2027 and Will Not Launch New Products in the U.S. With FD&C Colors, Effective Immediately

PITTSBURGH & CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today, The Kraft Heinz Company announced it will not launch any new products in the U.S. with Food, Drug & Cosmetic (FD&C) colors, effective immediately. The Company also announced it will remove the remaining FD&C colors from its U.S. product portfolio before the end of 2027. Already, nearly 90 percent of Kraft Heinz's U.S. products are free of FD&C colors (by Net Sales). For the small portion of products that currently contain FD&C colors, the Company has invested significant resources, mobilizing a team to address this complex challenge with a three-pronged approach (3Rs): Removing colors where it is not critical to the consumer experience; or Replacing FD&C colors with natural colors; or Reinventing new colors and shades where matching natural replacements are not available. 'As a food company with a 150+ year heritage, we are continuously evolving our recipes, products, and portfolio to deliver superiority to consumers and customers,' said Pedro Navio, North America President at Kraft Heinz. 'The vast majority of our products use natural or no colors, and we've been on a journey to reduce our use of FD&C colors across the remainder of our portfolio. In fact, we removed artificial colors, preservatives, and flavors from our beloved Kraft Mac & Cheese back in 2016. Our iconic Heinz Tomato Ketchup has never had artificial dyes – the red color comes simply from the world's best tomatoes. Above all, we are focused on providing nutritious, affordable, and great-tasting food for Americans and this is a privilege we don't take lightly.' Given FD&C colors have a longstanding history of approval by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, Kraft Heinz has used the colors in a small number of products. As part of this process, Kraft Heinz is also working with licensees of its brands to encourage them to remove FD&C colors. Ongoing Commitment to Quality & Nutrition For Kraft Heinz, it all starts at the source. Farming is the heart of our story – from soil to table, every product reflects the care, expertise, and responsibility we bring to nourishing people around the world. Today, Kraft Heinz sources the most tomatoes in the U.S., all grown in California for products like Heinz Tomato Ketchup. Claussen pickles (cucumbers) are grown in Ohio and Michigan; Ore-Ida potatoes are grown in Idaho; the dairy for Philadelphia cream cheese comes from farms in Upstate New York. It's all part of the Company's mission to make high-quality, great-tasting food that is both affordable and accessible to all. Kraft Heinz has made great progress innovating and renovating its products to improve their nutritional profiles in recent years. The Company has made changes to more than 1,000 product recipes to add protein and fiber, and reduce sugar, salt, and saturated fat. Through these changes, Kraft Heinz is on track to reduce nearly 55 million pounds of sugar across its portfolio by the end of this year.
