Notre Dame's Niele Ivey tweaks coaching staff, promotes Carlos Knox to assistant coach
After two successful years as director of player personnel for the program, Carlos Knox has been promoted to assistant coach ahead of his third season in South Bend.
Knox has been praised for helping develop many of ND's student-athletes, including 2025 WNBA Draft picks Liatu King and Maddy Westbeld. Last season, King broke the Notre Dame single-season record for rebounds per game (10.4) and was named to the all-ACC second team. The previous year, Westbeld was one of four players in the ACC to average at least 14.0 points and 8.0 rebounds.
Before his time in South Bend, Knox worked almost a decade with the Indiana Fever in multiple roles and helped lead the team to eight consecutive WNBA playoff appearances, including the 2012 WNBA championship.
Knox was a two-time NCAA scoring champion, NCAA All-American and NCAA Player of the Year for IUPUI. After college, he played for the Indiana Pacers from 1998-99 and played overseas in Croatia, Germany, Venezuela and Italy. He has also been a head coach in the International Basketball League, Continental Basketball Association and American Basketball Association.

Sparks star Kelsey Plum stuns Wings, ruins historic night for Paige Bueckers with buzzer-beater
Kelsey Plum played it perfectly on Wednesday night, and spoiled what was a historic outing from Paige Bueckers. The Los Angeles Sparks star, with her team down by a single point, drove through the lane and hit a floating bank-shot as the buzzer sounded to lift her team to the 81-80 win over the Dallas Wings — which set off a massive celebration at Arena. Bueckers still finished with 44 points in the loss for Dallas. That matched the WNBA's single-game rookie record, which was first set by Cynthia Cooper. It's also the highest-scoring night from any player in the league this season, and the first 40-point night in WNBA history from a player that shot at least 80% from the field. Bueckers went a wild 17-of-21 shooting and a perfect 4-of-4 from behind the arc. This post will be updated with more information shortly.

Former Ohio State basketball signee commits to another Big Ten school
Recruiting at the highest levels of big-time college sports has never been wilder. With Name, image and likeness, the ability to transfer in the portal at will, revenue sharing, and everything else, it's never been harder and more unpredictable to sign kids to play for good 'ole State U. And it extends beyond the crazy world of the massive revenue sport of college football. It has also bled over into another revenue-generating sport, men's basketball, and occasionally beyond that as well. We may never know the full story behind OSU men's basketball commit Dorian Jones, but there was clearly a change in heart -- either from the Ohio State side, his, or both-- but when Jones decommitted because of academic issues. Many scratched their heads and wondered how things weren't foretold in the situation, but they also wondered where he would end up when all the dust settled. Well, we appear to have the answer to the latter question, because on Wednesday, Jones announced his commitment to Rutgers through Joe Tipton of Rivals via social media. It wasn't too much of a surprise because the Scarlet Knights were right in the thick of the race with Ohio State when Jones originally. We wish Jones nothing but the best when it comes to his future in the game. We just hope he doesn't have very much success against the Buckeyes when he plays against his former courting partner. LOOK: Jon Gruden unveils cleats Ohio State football will wear against Texas
It's almost here. We are almost in game week mode here at Buckeyes Wire because Ohio State is just a little over a week away from breaking the seal on the 2025 college football season when it opens up against No. 1 Texas next Saturday, Aug. 30. The environment figures to be electric, even if the game is at Noon, because Buckeye Nation seems to always show up for the biggest of games no matter when or where it's played when a blueblood and highly ranked team is involved on the opposite sideline. Everyone will be watching, and anyone with any kind of allegiances or rooting interests from either side (queue up a thousand camera angles of Matthew McConaughey) will be full of anticipation. When it comes to the game next Saturday, though it's not the most important thing, we got a little peek at what cleats Ohio State will be wearing when it runs out of the tunnel to kick the season off right, and the peek behind the curtain came via Barstool Sports' Jon Gruden. Gruden is an Ohio native and knows all about the history of Ohio State, so it's no surprise he was invited to the Buckeyes' equipment room to get a look at some of the cleats OSU will be trotting out this season. You too can have a look at the reveal of several cleats, but most importantly, the sizzling kicks the Buckeye players will slip on vs. Texas. When you play for Ohio State, you get all the goods like this. I don't know about you, but I'm fond of all of the cleats Gruden unveiled, but those that will be worn vs. Texas are indeed the best of the bunch.
