MCSO: Hartselle man accused of rape now facing child pornography charge
MORGAN COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – A Hartselle man, who was charged in May with the rape of a minor, is now facing additional charges related to inappropriate messages sent to children.
Benjamin Preston Bolan, 27, is now charged with possession of child pornography with the intent to distribute.
On May 13, the sheriff's office Investigators and the Morgan County Fugitive Unit carried out a search warrant at an apartment complex on Mitwede Street in Hartselle.
MCSO said the warrant was for a man wanted for rape involving a victim under the age of 15.
However, MCSO said on Friday that investigators got search warrants for Bolan's Snapchat and cell phone back in April. They said that they found several hundred sexually explicit pictures, videos and chats with children, whose ages range from five to 15.
The sheriff's office said Bolan, who was already in jail from his May arrest, now has a combined bond of $800,000.

Man accused of shooting, killing family member in altercation, police say
LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — The Limestone County Sheriff's Office said a man is accused of shooting and killing a family member Friday. LCSO said around 7 p.m., deputies responded to a shooting incident in the 17000 block of Kelley Drive in Athens. Upon arrival, LCSO said deputies found the body of Todd Robert Jennett, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Also at the scene was Michael Stephen Esposito, 63, of Athens, Alabama. After securing the scene, investigators began a thorough investigation. Preliminary findings indicate that Jennett and Esposito, his stepfather, had been involved in a verbal altercation that escalated. During the dispute, Esposito reportedly produced a firearm and shot Jennett multiple times. Michael Esposito was taken into custody at the scene without incident and was transported to the Limestone County Jail. Florida man arrested for repeatedly stabbing shark in head as ‘revenge' for stealing fish after gory video goes viral
A Florida man claiming to be a boat captain was arrested Thursday after admitting he repeatedly stabbed a shark in the head in a Snapchat video that went viral late last month. Zane Garrett, 26, was charged with aggravated animal cruelty after gruesomely knifing a bull shark near a wreck site off Key West on May 22 in a video titled 'Bud broke my rod,' Local 10 reported. Garrett, who is identified as a captain on Second Nature Charters' website, was turned over by an anonymous tipster who saw the horrifying video and reported it to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, citing 'safety concerns,' according to the outlet. 'I asked Mr. Garrett if he thought that the repeated blows would eventually kill the shark, to which he replied, 'No. It takes a lot more to kill a shark than stabbing it in the head,'' the document stated. He also confessed that he 'did a lot more killing' of sharks with firearms and 'has stabbed sharks and/or killed sharks without harvesting them onto his boat many times in the past.' Authorities condemned the 'egregious' slaying for causing unnecessary harm to the shark. Garrett is being held in the Monroe County Sheriff's Office Key West jail facility on a $10,000 bond. His arrangement is set for June 26.

"I mean, we locked our doors last night. It's just something that we are just not used to doing. Everybody is just, until we know what's going on, we don't know if it was a family member, or, we don't know what, who could do this to him," said Mike Anders in early May.
