Anthony Edwards is Among Jeremiah Fears' Most Anticipated NBA Opponents
Anthony Edwards is Among Jeremiah Fears' Most Anticipated NBA Opponents originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The 2025 NBA Draft will bring a new class of rookies to the league, eager to prove themselves amongst the pros. Several years ago, the Minnesota Timberwolves landed the first overall pick in the draft, bringing Anthony Edwards to the team. Advertisement That pick has paid off rather well for the team, as Edwards is among the league's best, and Minnesota has been on the cusp of the NBA Finals in the past two seasons. Based on many projections, Edwards will only continue to get better and better in his career. He's now familiarized himself with the league and talented opponents, including fellow All-Stars LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant. Most of this year's incoming rookies already have specific players in mind they're most looking forward to playing against. Ahead of Wednesday night's opening round, many of the draft prospects appeared in the NBA's live YouTube video, On The Clock with the 2025 Draft Class. Hosts Ryan Hammer and Krysten Peek asked them each questions, including who their games compare to and who they can't wait to battle on the court. Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards (5).David Gonzales-Imagn Images For many, the same superstar's name kept popping up as the opponent they couldn't wait to play: LeBron James. More than a few of the 2025 NBA Draft prospects indicated he's the greatest of all-time, and it's unclear how much longer he'll be in the league. Advertisement A few of the other popular answers included Giannis Antetokounmpo and Luka Doncic. However, Oklahoma guard Jeremiah Fears immediately said Anthony Edwards and Steph Curry as his choices. 'Just because [of] Ant-Man's mentality. Fierce competitor, not scared of nobody, and he gonna come at you, so you wanna play against somebody like that every single night and it's gonna help you bring your A-game as well,' Fears said on why he chose Edwards. The 6-foot-4 Sooners star averaged 17.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game as a freshman. Fears helped lead his squad to the NCAA Tournament, where he tallied 20 points, five boards, and four assists in a loss to the UConn Huskies. He finds out on Wednesday night, which team he'll suit up for next season. Most mock drafts have him going in the top 10, with some projecting him at No. 7 to the New Orleans Pelicans or No. 8 to the Brooklyn Nets. Advertisement ESPN praised Fears ahead of the NBA Draft, due to his 'combination of size, speed, pace, shotmaking, and shot creation,' suggesting he has 'significant long-term upside" for a team. As of this writing, he's projected to go No. 5 in ESPN's mock draft to the Utah Jazz. While they're not nearly a contender, yet, it would give Fears multiple opportunities each season to face the Minnesota Timberwolves and Edwards. NBA Draft projections: Experts predict Ace Bailey, Thomas Sorber, Kon Knueppel, more
The 2025 NBA Draft has arrived. At 8:05 p.m. ET inside the Barclays Center the Dallas Mavericks are expected to make Cooper Flagg the sixth Duke basketball player to be taken with the top overall pick, with the San Antonio Spurs likely taking Rutgers' Dylan Harper at No. 2 overall at 8:10 p.m. ET. But for the picks that follow those, there remain some questions and uncertainty on how NBA teams will attack the remainder of the field. Some of those players who find the buzz around their name continuing to rise going into Night 1 of the two-day NBA draft include Rutgers' Ace Bailey, Georgetown's Thomas Sorber, Duke's Kon Knueppel and Baylor's VJ Edgecombe to name a few. Here's the latest on each of those four players' NBA mock draft projections ahead of the first round: REQUIRED READING: NBA draft rumors: Latest on Celtics, Paul George and other potential trades 2025 NBA draft: Expert predictions on several prospects By now, it's well documented that Bailey is one of the more polarizing prospects in this year's NBA draft class. The reason for this is that the Rutgers guard didn't make a visit to an NBA facility and turned down several invites from NBA teams, including the Philadelphia 76ers. In 30 games this season at Rutgers, Bailey averaged 17.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.3 blocks per game while shooting 46% from the field. Here's a look at where some NBA draft experts have Bailey going in the NBA draft: Though Flagg headlined the Duke roster this season, Knueppel was right up there as one of the more impactful players on the Blue Devils' roster. A reason for this was that Knueppel was able to showcase that he can be an all-around guard with his defense, playmaking and shooting. In 39 games this past season at Duke, Knueppel averaged 14.4 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game while shooting 47.9% from the field. Here's a look at where some NBA draft experts have Bailey going in the NBA draft: Sorber is one of the more intriguing prospects entering Night 1 of the NBA draft as his stock has increased in recent weeks despite still recovering from a season-ending foot injury with a timeline of return to playing around early August. In 24 games this past season at Georgetown, Sorber finished second on the Hoyas in scoring at 14.5 points per game while leading the team in field-goal shooting at 53.2%. Here's a look at where some NBA draft experts have Bailey going in the NBA draft: REQUIRED READING: NBA draft prospects: Meet Thomas Sorber, rising NBA draft prospect from Georgetown With Bailey's uncertainty in the NBA draft, Edgecombe appears to have become the clear-cut projected No. 3 overall pick to the 76ers. Noted in USA TODAY's latest mock draft, Edgecombe displayed his athleticism at Baylor this past season and in the draft process while showing "can be explosive and has an elite knack for steals" and can "contribute at the NBA level and can be aggressive at the point of attack." In 33 games this season at Baylor, Edgecombe averaged 15.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.1 steals per game while shooting 43.6% from the field.
