European giants ‘contact Nicolas Jackson's entourage over a potential summer move'... with doubts cast over his future after Chelsea star was given ANOTHER red card against Flamengo

Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson is attracting interest from a European giant, according to a report.
The 24-year-old has led the line for the Blues over the last past seasons, scoring 30 goals in 80 appearances across all competitions.
However, he has drawn crisiticsm from fans and pundits for his lack of effiency in front of goal as well as his poor discipline, having been sent off in Chelsea's 3-1 loss to Flamengo in the Club World Cup.
Jackson now faces more competition for a starting spot following the £30million arrival of Liam Delap from Ipswich.
However, the Senegal international could head for the exit after being sounded out by Juventus, according to Sky Italia
Napoli are also said to be interested in Jackson, but are prioritising moves for Liverpool's Darwin Nunez and Udinese's Lorenzo Lucca.
Jackson already suspended domestically following his Premier League dismissal at Newcastle on May 11, lasted only four minutes against Flamengo on Friday.
He was shown a straight red card for raking his studs down the shin of Ayrton Lucas — just moments after coming off the bench.
The forward took to Instagram after the match to issue a grovelling apology.
'I want to say sorry. To the club, the staff, my teammates, and all the fans watching, I let you down,' he wrote.
'Another red card and honestly, I'm so angry at myself. I work hard every day to help the team not to put us in this kind of situation.
'I still don't fully understand how it happened. But one thing is clear: it wasn't intentional. Just a football moment that went the wrong way. No excuses. I take full responsibility.
'I'll reflect, I'll grow, and I'll come back stronger for the badge and for everyone who believes in me. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry.'
Meanwhile, Maresca was asked why he dropped Jackson in favour of Delap.
The Italian explained: 'Just because they are both very good and we decide game by game who is going to play. But also some new players like Chalobah are playing from the start. I made some changes and hopefully they are good ones.
'They are quite similar (Delap and Jackson). I think Liam also needs a little time to adapt to his team-mates, the way we want to play - the way we want him to play.
'But no doubt that he is going to do well.'

Tottenham ask Bournemouth about Antoine Semenyo then immediately stop transfer pursuit

TOTTENHAM reportedly launched an enquiry for Antoine Semenyo before immediately halting their pursuit of the Bournemouth star. New Spurs boss Thomas Frank is eager to add a dazzling attacker to his forward line this summer. 1 And Semenyo, 25, emerged as a target after Tottenham also put Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo on their shortlist. The Bees' French forward netted 20 Premier League goals last term. But despite the opportunity to reunite with Frank in north London, Mbeumo reportedly favours a £60m move to Manchester United. Semenyo then became the clear alternative after also proving himself to be a goal menace when cutting inside on his left foot. The Athletic claims Tottenham even went so far as to contact Bournemouth over a move for their Ghanaian winger, who netted 13 goals and bagged seven assists in 42 games this term. However, the Cherries have already seen their squad ravaged by big sides this summer. Dean Huijsen joined Real Madrid for £50million last month, while fellow defender Illya Zabarnyi could be off to Paris Saint-Germain for around £60m. Milos Kerkez has also agreed a £40m switch to Premier League champs Liverpool. And with forwards always carrying a premium, it's claimed that Bournemouth told Tottenham to pay £70m for Semenyo. The mind-blowing fee was immediately rebuffed Spurs, who have decided to not pursue a deal for now. They will continue to scour the market for a new right-sided forward at a better price. But should Tottenham fail to secure an alternative, they could come back for Semenyo later in the transfer window. The former Bristol City and Sunderland man still has four years to run on his Cherries contract. And Semenyo is also on the shortlist at Man United, who could move should they end up losing Mbeumo to Spurs.

Spain vs England: Lineups and latest updates from Under-21 European Championship quarter-final

Spain were the beaten finalists when England won the Under-21 European Championship three years ago, and the two nations meet again in the quarter-finals of this summer's tournament. Despite those happy memories, Lee Carsley's team are considered slight underdogs after a group stage that saw England win one, draw one and lose one. The defeat came in the final group game against Germany. Performances left something to be desired too, with too many attackers wanting to occupy central spaces and the lack of a focal point in the absence of Liam Delap. Carsley has so far played without a recognised centre-forward, preferring Jonathan Rowe to Birmingham City's Jay Stansfield. 'I believe Spain are a top team and anyone who was with us in the last few Euros knows you have to beat all of the top teams,' Carsley said. 'Spain are another team I've got a lot of respect for, the final we had a couple of years ago was so close. It could have gone either way. We scored a fortunate goal and played OK in the game but there's definitely a lot more to come from us if we're going to progress. 'Obviously the most difficult thing is to score a goal and maybe we just need that little bit of luck, we need a scruffy one. 'The main thing is we keep creating the chances, we keep running to the areas, we have that belief that it's going to drop and I think we can do that.' The youngest player in the Spain squad is pacey Real Betis forward Jesus Rodríguez, who made an appearance from the bench against Chelsea in the Uefa Conference League forward and is well regarded. Valencia defender Cristian Mosquera is a name on the radar of Premier League clubs.

Is Cole Palmer out wide the solution to Chelsea's midfield dilemma?

Fifa wants clubs to play their strongest sides at the Club World Cup and detailed that demand in their participation agreements for the tournament. But, at least in the case of Enzo Maresca, the Chelsea head coach, this is no impediment to rotation. For the defeat by Flamengo on Friday he made four changes, having promised to shuffle the pack regardless of any penalty. The reality of participation in the United States for Chelsea is that, should they go deep in the competition, they will have almost no time for a pre-season. That means they need to rest players, particularly in the piercing heat, which is forecast to hit 39C on Tuesday, just hours before a 9pm kick-off in Philadelphia. But no pre-season means a loss of time for tactical experimentation in a non-competitive setting too. That perhaps explains why Maresca attempted something new against Flamengo, even if it could prove costly in the short term. 'In the last two days, we tried something completely different,' Maresca said after the match. 'For the first time, we played in a different structure. We played to prepare for next season, to have more options. [Against Flamengo], the plan was different.' Maresca introduced a 4-2-2-2 set-up on Friday, with Liam Delap and Pedro Neto highest up the field almost as split strikers, supported by Enzo Fernández and Cole Palmer behind them. In defence, Chelsea used conventional full backs, jettisoning the requirement for either Marc Cucurella, at left back, or Malo Gusto, at right back, to invert into midfield. On the day this plan did not work effectively against Flamengo, but this set-up contained some eye-catching changes with big ramifications for different personnel heading into next season. The first was for Palmer, who was moved back to the right flank, where he played more regularly under Mauricio Pochettino and only once, on the opening day of last season, under Maresca. It was not the same as playing him as a right winger, because he had to cover more horizontal space, moving into central areas. But it was a shift, and seemed to allow him to link more with Delap, his former team-mate at Manchester City. At Ipswich Town, Delap took a greater number of his touches off the left flank but at Chelsea, in his two Club World Cup appearances, he has been more of a feature on the right. Against Flamengo, his first-half shooting chance was created by a run between the left-sided centre back and the Flamengo left back, while against Los Angeles FC his two chances created for Fernández both came from running in behind on the right flank and delivering into the box. The other tweak brought the return of 'normal' overlapping full backs. For Gusto the absence of such a role has limited his appearances, but the big impact could be for Reece James. Against Flamengo he started in midfield and it is a role he has assumed often under the Italian coach, but it presents a dilemma, owing to the fact that James's best displays were always as an effective wingback, a role Thomas Tuchel sees him in for England. At Chelsea last season that role did not exist in Maresca's system, but it does in this new set-up. The big impact, though, is that by moving Palmer wide, and no longer requiring a full back to invert, it also allows all of Roméo Lavia, Moisés Caicedo and Fernández to start in the same midfield. Those three played together only six times last season, and Maresca engineered that by playing Caicedo as a right back, relegating James to the bench. Now, with Palmer in a new role, Fernández can play higher in midfield while both Lavia and Caicedo can start together behind him. Only once did James join the trio on the field at the same time, away to Newcastle United, and that may change now with this tactical tweak. Of course, this all sounds great in theory, but practice is what counts. The match against Flamengo was not a positive case study. Palmer was quiet while Flamengo frequently outnumbered Chelsea in wide areas thanks to their adventurous full backs creating two-v-one scenarios. Trialling something new against the toughest group-stage opponent is far from ideal and potentially damaging, but if Chelsea are to change their tactical structure this summer, then the only time to do so is now.
