PM Modi inaugurates locomotive manufacturing plant in Gujarat's Dahod
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated an electric locomotive manufacturing facility of Indian Railways in Dahod, Gujarat on Monday. The new plant is set to produce 9000 HP electric locomotives for both domestic use and international export. Following the inauguration, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone and launched several development projects in Dahod worth over ₹24,000 crore.
PM Modi, joined by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, also flagged off the first electric locomotive produced at the facility. The electric locomotive can haul freight trains at a speed of 120 kmph and a power of 9000 horsepower. The engines will be equipped with air conditioning and a toilet facility for the driver, and an advanced cover system to enhance safety and prevent accidents.
Boost to freight capacity and green technology
According to the Prime Minister's Office, the Dahod plant aligns with PM Modi's vision of enhancing connectivity and building world-class infrastructure. The high-horsepower locomotives are expected to significantly boost Indian Railways' freight capacity. They are equipped with regenerative braking systems and are engineered to reduce energy consumption.

These include key rail infrastructure developments as well as projects spearheaded by the Government of Gujarat. PM Modi flagged off two major train services: the Vande Bharat Express between Veraval and Ahmedabad, and a new express train connecting Valsad and Dahod.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi held a vibrant roadshow in Vadodara as part of his two-day visit to Gujarat from 26 to 27 May. Expressing his appreciation for the warm reception, the Prime Minister described the experience as 'extremely delightful' in a post on social media platform X.
'Thank you, Vadodara! Extremely delighted to be in this great city. It was a splendid roadshow and that too in the morning! Gratitude to all those who showered their blessings,' PM Modi said in a post on X.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday planted a banyan sapling at the Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park in Delhi, symbolically launching the Aravalli Green Wall projects. On World Environment Day, which is celebrated today, PM Modi also highlighted the importance of reforesting the Aravalli range under the Aravalli Green Wall project. 'In the Aravalli range and beyond, in addition to the traditional planting methods, we will encourage new techniques especially in urban and semi-urban areas where there are space constraints. He highlighted that the region faces multiple environmental challenges which the government is committed to addressing. 'It is widely known that the Aravalli range is one of the oldest on our planet, covering Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi. Our focus is to rejuvenate areas linked with this range. And it hosts the only primary forest in the National Capital Region, with tools from the lower Palaeolithic period (3.3 million years to 300,000 years ago) and cave art being found in the hills around the forest.

Indian Railways to make e-Aadhaar verification mandatory for Tatkal tickets
Indian Railways will introduce an Aadhaar-based verification system for Tatkal bookings, officials said. By linking bookings with e-Aadhaar verification, authorities hope to ensure a more transparent and fair ticketing to IRCTC, the first advantage of Aadhaar verification is that Aadhaar-verified users will gain a 10-minute priority period when booking Tatkal tickets, which will be before all other users. No authorised agents will be permitted to book tickets during this time. Non-Aadhaar accounts will go through special verification before booking, and accounts under suspicion will be May 24 to June 2, the data indicated that most Tatkal tickets were sold in the first 10 minutes of opening, with roughly 67,159 tickets (62.5%) on AC booked in 10 minutes and about 66.4% in non-AC. About 12% of Tatkal tickets were booked 8 to 10 hours after the Tatkal window opened, indicating that the system accommodates last-minute bookings. WHY THE CHANGE?Several agents have been using bots and fake accounts to reserve multiple tickets for their clients, which prevents genuine users from accessing tickets. Over the past year, the IRCTC has blocked 35 million fake accounts and flagged an additional 2 million accounts as suspicious for further review. Moving forward, all accounts must be linked to Aadhaar to continue using IRCTC is implementing AI-based technology to combat misuse. These technologies are capable of identifying and preventing the abuse of automated bots, as well as blocking users with fake IDs and accounts created with temporary email addresses.
