Eight Upgraded Lifts At Five Monorail Stations Now Fully Operational
KUALA LUMPUR, May 18 (Bernama) -- Eight lifts at five monorail stations are now fully operational after undergoing upgrades and passing safety inspections by the relevant government agencies.
Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd (Rapid Rail), in a statement today, said the stations involved were Imbi, Maharajalela and Medan Tuanku, each with two lifts, while Hang Tuah and Raja Chulan had one lift each.
It said that the upgrade was carried out to provide greater comfort and accessibility for all users, especially the elderly, persons with disabilities and families with young children or using baby strollers.
'The remaining eight lifts and one escalator at six other stations are currently undergoing final commissioning tests and the process of obtaining lifting machine permits, and are expected to be fully completed by the end of May 2025,' the statement said.
Rapid Rail said the upgrade was part of a RM12.6 million allocation covering various improvement initiatives at 11 monorail stations, including the installation of automatic platform door systems and platform lifts for wheelchairs, which have been in operation since December 2024, as well as repair works on lifts and escalators.
According to the statement, the monorail service saw an average of 57,000 passengers per day in 2024, marking an eight percent increase from 52,000 daily passengers the previous year.
'This increase marks a continued recovery and positive growth in the use of public transport in the capital.
'It also reflects growing user confidence, with the monorail once again becoming the preferred mode of transport for city residents' daily commute,' it said.
Therefore, Rapid Rail said user-friendly lift facilities were essential to ensure smooth passenger movement at the stations and to provide a safer and more comfortable travel experience for all.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have confirmed receiving reports on the 80 haj pilgrims stranded at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) after being duped with the offer to perform haj using Mujamalah visas. However, the travel agency allegedly insisted on flying them out using tourist visas, resulting in them being denied departure. The sight of roti canai being expertly tossed high into the air by Muhammad Muiz Ruzaini and Mohamad Zul Imran Zulkifle, combined with the tempting aroma, has whetted the appetites of visitors, some of whom are willing to queue for up to two hours. Muiz said he had not expected to be selected as part of the Malaysian delegation to Expo 2025 Osaka, where he would showcase the rich flavours of Malaysian cuisine on the world stage. What makes the experience even more rewarding is the overwhelming response from visitors, the Kedahan added. 'Many praised the deliciousness of the roti canai and gave very positive feedback, both in terms of taste and our presentation. 'After they ate, many would come up and say 'oishi' (delicious). Some even repeated it seven times,' he said, adding that most of the visitors were from Japan, South Korea and China. Kuching marathon to showcase capital's colonial and cultural charm
THE 10th edition of the Kuching Marathon (KM2025), scheduled for Sept 21, will offer participants an illuminating journey through Kuching's rich cultural and colonial heritage. Sarawak Youth, Sports and Enterpreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said KM2025 aims to strengthen Kuching's presence on the world map by promoting the city as a hub for sports, recreation and tourism, while fostering a healthy lifestyle. 'Among the highlights of this year's edition is the improved 42km full marathon race route, offering runners a more scenic course. 'For the first time, all participants who complete their race within the cut-off time, including those in the 10km and 5km categories, will receive a finisher's T-shirt.
