Small F&B traders can use subsidised LPG without permit until Oct, says domestic trade minister
Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said no legal action will be taken against this group of traders during the transition period.
'Small and micro food and beverage traders will be allowed to obtain supplies of subsidised LPG cylinders without the need for a scheduled controlled goods permit,' he told a press conference here.
He said the Cabinet, in its meeting today, agreed to the ministry's proposal to amend the regulations, which initially came into effect on Oct 15, 2021, under the previous administration.
Armizan added that the amendments would, among others, take into account the specific needs of micro and small-scale food and beverage traders, while also ensuring legal clarity in terms of compliance and enforcement.
Armizan said the ministry aims to finalise the amendments once Op Gasak concludes on Oct 31.
He added that enforcement against leakages involving illegal decanting activities and misuse by industrial users under Op Gasak would continue.
'The Op Gasak report will serve as a basis for us to determine the way forward in ensuring we have suitable legal provisions that are clear and take into account the needs of those providing services to the public, especially food and beverage businesses,' he said.
He added that the amendment process will be coordinated through a technical committee established on May 1, chaired by the ministry's secretary-general, and involving relevant ministries and agencies.
'In addition to government representatives, we are also engaging a range of stakeholders. In fact, I will be holding an engagement session with 10 food and beverage business associations tomorrow.
'We welcome any proposals to ensure that these amendments are truly practical and beneficial for the intended target groups,' he said.
The Control of Supplies Regulations (Amendment) 2021 limits the ownership and use of subsidised LPG exceeding 42 kilogrammes at any one time without a scheduled controlled goods permit. — Bernama

Dr Zaliha called on DBKL to improve basic infrastructure, including the lighting system, public toilets, and other facilities to better serve visitors, as part of its social responsibility to city dwellers. She also urged DBKL to organise suitable programmes to revitalise Padang Merbok, ensuring the area could be utilised in a more structured and effective manner. Additionally, she suggested the establishment of a café as a new attraction to draw more visitors, thereby positioning Padang Merbok as one of Kuala Lumpur's key recreational landmarks. MyJalan app proves successful as 11,860 road damage complaints resolved, says works minister
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 — The Works Ministry (KKR) has resolved 11,860, or 95.19 per cent, of the 12,459 road damage complaints received through the MyJalan app, said Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi. The remaining 599 complaints (4.81 per cent) are still under investigation or pending action, he told the Dewan Rakyat during the winding-up session for his ministry on the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) today. Since the app's launch in August 2023, 54,330 users have registered and submitted 40,938 complaints. Of these, 28,479 cases (69.57 per cent) were redirected under the No Wrong Door policy to relevant agencies, as they involved roads outside KKR's jurisdiction. These include municipal, village, agricultural, state and private roads managed by local councils, the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT), the Rural and Regional Development Ministry (KKDW) and state governments. On highway infrastructure, Nanta said traffic on the East–West Highway remains manageable based on 2024 census data. However, a RM100 million rehabilitation project is underway to upgrade road surfaces, lighting and structural components, with completion expected by 2026. The scope includes preliminary studies, land surveys, streetlight and traffic signal maintenance, and routine upkeep of both pavement and non-pavement infrastructure. He also noted that the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) has implemented Building Information Modelling (BIM) across all stages of highway projects. This includes the planning, construction, operations and upgrades, in line with the government's digital transformation and sustainability agenda outlined in the 13MP and National Construction Policy 2030. Since Jan 1, 2023, the BIM policy has been piloted on key projects including the Kuala Lumpur–Karak Highway widening, Kajang SILK Highway expansion, East Coast Expressway Phase 1 flood mitigation, Sungai Perak Bridge and selected rest areas along the North–South Expressway. LLM has initiated training for BIM roles such as managers, coordinators and modellers, and is developing BIM Infra Guidelines in collaboration with the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) and academic institutions. Upcoming projects incorporating BIM include the West Ipoh Span Expressway (WISE), Phase 3 of the SILK Highway widening and the Juru–Sungai Dua traffic dispersal project along the North–South Expressway. — Bernama

Anwar Ibrahim outlines fiscal priorities, pledges sustainable growth with 3pc deficit for 2025
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 — The country's financial management must be carried out prudently and with discipline, in line with the spirit of the Public Finance and Fiscal Responsibility Act 2023 (FRA), said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He stressed on this while chairing the Fiscal Policy Committee (FPC) meeting, which is an important platform for drafting clear fiscal policies and setting the direction of the country's economy. He said the Madani Government needs to continue to find a balance between efforts to maintain the momentum of economic growth and ensuring the country's fiscal position remains sustainable, especially in the volatile global economic environment. 'Although the world is still grappling with uncertainty, the national economy remains strong with a growth rate of 4.4 per cent for the first half of 2025. 'The unemployment rate has also dropped to three per cent, the lowest in 10 years,' the prime minister said in a post on his Facebook page yesterday. He added that the government has successfully reduced the fiscal deficit from 5.5 per cent in 2022 to 4.1 per cent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2024, an achievement that demonstrates its commitment to responsible fiscal management. Meanwhile, in a separate statement following the FPC meeting yesterday, the Ministry of Finance (MoF) said as the Madani Government embarks on the 13th Malaysia Plan, fiscal space must be optimised to deliver public investments that materially transform the economy (Raise the Ceiling) and improve the rakyat's quality of life (Raise the Floor). In 2025, Malaysia's economy is expected to grow between 4.0 per cent and 4.8 per cent, underpinned by strong domestic demand, moderate inflation and a stable labour market. 'The FPC meeting today reaffirmed the government's commitment to reducing the 3.8 per cent fiscal deficit target for 2025 and subsequently achieving a deficit of three per cent or below in the medium term, in line with the FRA commitment,' said Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister. The session also serves as an important step in setting the government's fiscal trajectory ahead of the forthcoming Budget 2026, scheduled to be tabled on October 10, 2025. Pursuant to the provisions of the FRA, the MoF said the Madani Government is undertaking the Medium-Term Revenue Strategy (MTRS) to broaden the revenue base and establish a more progressive tax system, while strengthening compliance with international best practices. 'Moving forward, priority will be placed on addressing leakages and enhancing efficiency through measures such as the phased implementation of the e-invoicing system. 'These efforts underscore the government's resolve to build a fairer, more resilient and sustainable fiscal framework that supports long-term economic growth and the well-being of the people,' said the ministry. — Bernama
