Elon Musk Says Google Has Edge in AI Race — But Not for Long
In the high-stakes race to dominate artificial intelligence, Elon Musk has offered a candid assessment of the competition — and it might surprise some. While Musk is pouring significant resources into his own AI company, xAI, he admits there is one rival currently holding the upper hand: Google. Responding to a post on X (formerly Twitter) about which tech giant is best positioned to lead the AI industry, Musk pointed to Google's considerable advantage through its DeepMind division. 'Outside of real-world AI, Google has the biggest compute (and data) advantage for now, so currently has the highest probability of being the leader,' Musk wrote. The reason for this lead, according to Musk, is straightforward: Google's unmatched access to massive datasets combined with substantial computational power. DeepMind has been a pioneer in AI research for over a decade, producing breakthrough models and pushing the limits of machine learning. However, Musk believes this dominance will not last forever. 'That may change in a few years. For the foreseeable future, the major AI companies will continue to prosper, as will xAI. There is just so much to do,' he added. Google is not taking its position lightly. The company is investing an unprecedented $75 billion this year to expand data centres and boost computational capacity, aiming to further strengthen its AI and cloud offerings. With DeepMind's world-class research team and a track record of innovation, Google is positioning itself to maintain its lead in the near term. Meanwhile, Musk's xAI is working to close the gap through an ambitious growth strategy. Central to this is the 'Colossus' supercluster in Memphis — a massive infrastructure project designed to handle hundreds of thousands of GPUs for AI model training. Musk is also leveraging his broader business empire, tapping into SpaceX's aerospace expertise, Tesla's real-world AI capabilities, and social media platform X's data to accelerate development. xAI's products, such as the Grok chatbot and the Aurora image generator, are evolving rapidly, with frequent updates aimed at matching or surpassing the capabilities of competitors. By integrating AI across multiple industries, Musk hopes to create a diversified and resilient AI ecosystem. Musk's acknowledgment of Google's current advantage comes amid ongoing tensions with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. The two co-founded OpenAI in 2015, but Musk stepped down from the board in 2018. Since then, their professional relationship has grown increasingly strained, with both leaders taking different philosophical and strategic approaches to AI. For now, Musk sees a competitive but dynamic future for the AI sector. While Google may enjoy a temporary lead thanks to its scale, he is betting that innovation, infrastructure, and cross-industry integration will shift the balance — and soon.

Top 10 countries of origin of foreign-born billionaires in the US (2025): India surpasses Israel
Top 10 countries of origin for America's foreign-born billionaires 2025: The world has nearly 3,000 billionaires across 78 countries. Their combined net worth is $16.1 trillion, and about one-third of them live in the United States. The U.S. has been a centre for wealth migration. Forbes reports that the number of foreign-born billionaires in the country has reached a historic peak of 125, coming from 41 different countries. About 14 per cent of the billionaires in America are foreign-born and collectively hold wealth worth $1.3 trillion. Notably, among the world's wealthiest individuals, three of the top ten billionaires are foreign-born — Elon Musk, the world's richest person, was born in South Africa; Sergey Brin, co-founder of Google, originally is from Russia; and Jensen Huang, co-founder and CEO of Nvidia, is from Taiwan. The number of Indian-born billionaires in America has jumped from 5 in 2022 to 12 in 2025, making India the top country of origin for foreign-born billionaires, exceeding Israel. Jay Chaudhry, founder and CEO of cybersecurity firm Zscaler, leads the group, ranking eighth with a net worth of $17.9 billion (Rs 17,900 crore, approximately). The 2025 list also features several high-profile additions, including Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, and Nikesh Arora, CEO of Palo Alto Networks since 2018. Nearly two-thirds of the 125 foreign-origin billionaires in the United States identified by Forbes were born in these 10 countries and territories.

Amid Perplexity AI's offer to buy Chrome, Sundar Pichai Google launches new tool of…, in India, Us and…
Perplexity AI, led by Indian-origin CEO Aravind Srinivas, has made an $34.5 billion (over Rs 302152 crore) all-cash bid to acquire Google Chrome. However there was no reply by Google so far about it. Amid this competition only on Thursday, Google announced that 'Flight Deals,' its new AI-powered search feature within Google Flights, will be launched over the next week in the US, Canada, and India. In a blog post, the company said the tool is aimed at flexible travellers focused on finding the best savings for their next trip. The rollout will happen automatically, with no opt-in required, it added. Google Flights Launches New AI Search Tool The feature can be accessed through the Flight Deals page, or via the top-left menu on Google Flights, the flight search engine that helps users find and compare airline tickets. 'Instead of playing with different dates, destinations and filters to uncover the best deals, you can just describe when, where and how you'd like to travel — as though you're talking to a friend — and Flight Deals will take care of the rest,' it said. Citing an example, it said one can start with searching for something like 'week-long trip this winter to a city with great food, nonstop only' or '10 day ski trip to a world-class resort with fresh powder'. What Will Google's New AI Tool Do? 'You'll see the best bargains available that match your search, including destinations you may not have previously considered,' it said. Flight Deals uses Google's advanced AI to understand the nuances of what users are looking for and identifies matching destinations. Thereafter, it taps into real-time Google Flights data to quickly display relevant, up-to-date options from hundreds of airlines and booking sites. 'We're launching Flight Deals in beta to gather feedback and explore how AI can improve travel planning. But we know you love the original Google Flights, and that's here to stay (in fact, it will keep getting better: we're adding a new option to exclude basic economy fares for trips in the US and Canada),' it said.
