EXCLUSIVE: Iraq's CF may hold urgent meeting over Al-Sudani-Rubio call
Shafaq News/ The Iraqi Shiite Coordination Framework (CF) is expected to hold an urgent meeting to discuss the details of the phone call between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, the Fatah Alliance said on Wednesday.
Al-Sudani received a call from Rubio on Tuesday, during which they discussed overall bilateral relations between Iraq and the US, according to a statement from al-Sudani's media office. However, the US State Department revealed additional details not included in the media statement, including the importance of limiting Iranian influence in Iraq.
In response, Uday al-Khudran from the Fatah Alliance, one of the main Shiite blocs, told Shafaq News, "Since the onset of the regional crisis, Iraq, through its government, has worked to stay away from the conflict and war zones. All of the CF's previous meetings have emphasized keeping Iraq out of any regional or international axis."
"The CF is expected to hold an urgent and important meeting in the next two days to discuss the warnings or threats delivered by US Secretary of State to PM al-Sudani, in order to reach outcomes and agreements that would prevent Iraq from facing any US sanctions or decisions that could negatively impact the country's internal situation,' he added.

New Era for Iraqi trade: Nation joins International Transit Network
Shafaq News/ On Tuesday, the Iraqi Border Ports Authority announced that Iraq has officially joined the global (TIR) system, enabling streamlined international transit operations through its territory in partnership with the International Road Transport Union (IRU). The authority indicated in a statement that the initiative was launched under the direct supervision of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, integrating the TIR system with Iraq's government platforms across all land, sea, and air border crossings. Two successful pilot shipments were completed using Iraqi territory. The first shipment began in Turkiye's Mersin Port and passed through Iraq en route to Khalifa Port in Abu Dhabi. The second originated in Poland, traversed Turkiye and Iraq, and continued onward to Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. Iraq frees 1,500+ detainees under amnesty law
Shafaq News/ On Tuesday, Iraq's Supreme Judicial Council announced a new set of figures related to the implementation of the amended Amnesty Law, covering the period from May 25 to May 29, 2025. According to a statement, a total of 1,534 detainees and convicts held in prisons and detention centers across the country were released. Additionally, 5,896 individuals—either wanted on arrest warrants, facing financial liabilities, or convicted in absentia—were also granted legal reprieve. Including figures published on May 22, 24,754 individuals have now been released under the law, with 111,017 beneficiaries overall, including those with pending legal cases or convictions. During the same timeframe, Iraq recovered 3,494,402,206 Iraqi dinars (about $247.3K), the council revealed, adding that the total amount of recovered public funds now exceeds 20.1 billion Iraqi dinars (about $1.415M).
