Egyptian amb. hands over invitation to GEM opening ceremony
CAIRO, May 26 (MENA) - Egypt's Ambassador in Beirut Alaa Moussa, handed over an invitation from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to Lebanese President Gen. Joseph Aoun to participate in the official opening ceremony of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), set for July 3.
During a meeting with the Lebanese leader on Monday, Moussa emphasized the great importance Cairo attaches to this global event, noting the museum is envisioned to be the world's largest cultural edifice.
He said the museum will ultimately house an unparalleled collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts that demonstrate the uniqueness of Egyptian civilization.
Hailing deeply rooted bonds between both countries, the two sides discussed ways to promote bilateral cooperation, as well as the latest development efforts in Lebanon and the region in general.
The Egyptian diplomat reiterated Cairo full support for Lebanon.
During another meeting with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam on Monday, Moussa discussed ongoing preparations for convening the Egyptian-Lebanese joint higher committee in Cairo later this year and how to maximize the benefits of the committee's upcoming session.
Moussa also handed the Lebanese premier an invitation to attend the opening ceremony of the Grand Egyptian Museum. (MENA)

OPEN// Cabinet sets feed-in tariff for power generated from sewage sludge, biogas
CAIRO, June 4 (MENA) – The Cabinet approved on Wednesday, during a meeting under Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, a feed-in tariff of $0.044 per kilowatt-hour for electricity generated from sewage sludge or biogas extracted from sanitary landfills, as part of efforts to support renewable energy and waste-to-energy projects. Under the approved framework, project companies will be granted usufruct rights to state land for up to 25 years and are responsible for all permits, grid connection costs, and environmental studies. Power generated will be sold to electricity distribution companies through power purchase agreements, with payments in Egyptian pounds based on the central bank's USD exchange rate at the time of invoicing. The total installed capacity from such projects is capped at 80 MW over three years. The tariff may be reviewed after reaching this limit or at the end of the three-year period, whichever comes first. A joint committee headed by the Waste Management Regulatory Authority will oversee project evaluations and define technical and financial conditions for contracts, with representation from key ministries and agencies. OPEN// FM says Egypt eager to enhance relations with China
CAIRO, June 4 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty said Wednesday Egypt wants to work with the Chinese side to elevate relations to broader horizons. This came during his meeting with Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue Zhai Jun. Abdelatty highlighted that over a decade has passed since the announcement of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Egypt and China, which was made by their presidents in December 2014, noting the remarkable development in bilateral relations across various sectors in recent years, foreign ministry spokesperson Tamim Khallaf said. The minister praised China's contribution to infrastructure projects in Egypt and affirmed Egypt's eagerness to attract more Chinese investments and companies. He presented the available investment opportunities in Egypt and the efforts made by the government to support the private sector within an integrated plan for economic development. Minister Abdelatty briefed the Chinese envoy on Egypt's mediation efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, in cooperation with the United States and Qatar, stressing the need for the urgent delivery of humanitarian aid to alleviate the humanitarian crisis affecting the Palestinian people. He applauded China's balanced stance on the Palestinian issue and reiterated the need for the Palestinian people to obtain their legitimate rights, foremost among which is the right to establish an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with Al-Quds (East Jerusalem) as its capital.
