Travel experts at TripAdvisor have pulled together their annual list of the top places stay.

Their prestigious Travellers' Choice Awards: Best of the Best Hotels 2025
Analysing 12 months of review data from over 1.6 million venues listed on the site, winners span 10 categories from the definitive top hotels through to B&Bs, luxury destinations and pet-friendly stays.
This year also sees the launch of a new category - one-of-a-kind, celebrating quirky hotels across the globe.
And a Scots location has been named number one in the UK and fourth in the whole world beating the likes of a Giraffe Manor in Nairobi and an ice hotel in Sweden.
Fingal Hotel is a luxury, floating hotel housed in an old lighthouse keeper's ferry and is permanently berthed on Edinburgh's vibrant waterfront.
Built in 1963 and retired in 2000, the 'boatel' is now home to stunning cabins and suites that wouldn't look out of place in an Agatha Christie novel.
Meanwhile, guests can dine in the two AA Rosette eaterie The Lighthouse Restaurant & Bar.

It's not the only Scots location in the top one-of-a-kind hotels list. Coming in at number three in the UK is Eagle Brae, nestled in the countryside near Beauly.

The stunning collection of high-end log cabins overlook Glen Affric in the 8,000 acre Highlands estate.
And it feels like living in a fairytale when visitors step into this away-from-it-all corner of Scotland.
Meanwhile, coming it at number five is Edinburgh institution The Witchery.

Steeped in gothic romance, the hotel is housed in a secluded collection of historic buildings at the gates of Edinburgh Castle, dating back to 1595.
And guests can indulge in fine-dining, an award-winning wine list and the most atmospheric dining rooms in all of Scotland.
Number one on the planet for one-of-a-kind stays is the Taj Lake Palace, in Udaipur, India.
The building was a masterpiece conceived between 1743-1746 by Maharana Jagat Singh II and once served as a summer haven for the Mewar Royal family.

We told in January how the hotel shut its doors for a "complete makeover". The popular wedding venue is famed for its links to Robert Burns - featuring in one of his most celebrated poems, Tam O'Shanter. Dating back to Medieval times, the hotel is situated by the banks of the River Doon and falls within the Burns Monument Conservation Area. It was built in 1829 as a Traveller's Inn, and has seen various owners over the years. In 2022, it was bought over by the Cumnock-based RAD Hotel Group. The family-owned property has undergone extensive renovations, including this final phase that includes a newly built wraparound extension. The new extension houses Tales, a lounge bar and private dining room, and elevated public spaces - inspired by Scottish folklore. The final revamp phase completes earlier refurbishments to the hotel's grand ballroom, luxurious bedrooms and new stunning suites. Tales will be open seven days a week from noon until 10pm offering seasonal Scottish cuisine, and sweeping views of the iconic River Doon and gardens below. Inside Fraser Suites Edinburgh The name and concept are rooted in the poetic legacy of Robert Burns, who famously penned many of his greatest works just steps from the hotel on the iconic Brig o' Doon bridge. As guests enter the hotel, they will be greeted into a new lounge, complete with a bespoke marble bar and cosy lounge seating. There is an intimate private dining room for up to 24 guests, ideal for quiet celebrations or pre-dinner gatherings or semi private spaces with picturesque views seating up to 16. Beyond the lounge, there is a 80-cover romantic dining space. Storytelling is featured throughout with local art adorning the walls, and a hand-painted Tam O' Shanter mural by artist Roderick McKenzie. Diners can expect standout mains like individual Scotch Beef Wellingtons served with maple-glazed carrots and fondant potatoes, Seared Monkfish and King Prawn Curry with mango madras and coriander rice, or the Highlander Fries loaded with haggis and peppercorn sauce. Starters include a signature Scotch Egg wrapped in haggis and sausage, fresh mussels of the day, or modern Crab Tacos with lime mayo. Those with a sweet tooth will enjoy showstoppers like Limoncello Crème Brûlée and the dreamy Triple Chocolate Pavlova. Credit: Supplied But the sexy singleton wasn't instantly won over by finding fame and fortune on the dating series - as she loved her job as a personal banker with Barclays. Pal Vanda Barbosa had a candid chat whilst giving the International Business graduate a facial treatment when she was signed up for the show. She said: 'Alima is stunning. I would definitely say she's one of the most beautiful people I have ever met. 'And she's such an intelligent girl, even when she was presented with the offer to go to Love Island she was still thinking about her job that she would have to give up. 'She's such a kind, caring and funny girl. We got on really well and bonded because both of us lived in Portugal before and speak Portuguese.' Alima is originally from Guinea Bissau and regularly enjoys exotic holidays abroad. Now she is set to follow in the footsteps of her fellow Scots and female Love Island success stories like Camilla Thurlow, Laura Anderson and Paige Turley. Speaking after she was announced, Alima said: "I'm a good flirt. I always ask guys on a night out to guess which country I'm originally from. 'If they get it right, they can get my number. But they never guess correctly so it works really well if you don't want to give a guy your number.' On what she's looking for, Alima added: 'A tall man with a handsome face. She also dropped a bombshell in her early snippets by revealing she helped to deliver her baby sister with a shoelace after her mum's unexpected labour. Her mum went into labour while Alima was writing an essay for university and she had to help with the umbilical cord. She joked: 'I told my lecturer what happened because I couldn't submit my essay and he thought I was lying. He said there were easier ways to get an extension." Her friend Vanda reckons Alima has plenty of stories to tell that will keep viewers entertained. But she also believes she will think carefully before falling into the arms of one the show's bachelors. The esthetician, who runs Skin By Vanda, said: 'She's always been single since I met her. I would like her to find a genuinely nice good guy, someone kind and thoughtful who treats her the way she deserves. 'She's such a beautiful soul, inside and out and I truly believe she deserves the absolute best.'
