
Air India warned over 'systemic' lapses in fatigue management and training, documents show
The airline self-reported the problems, which occurred this year and last year, to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) last month, just days after one of its Boeing (BA.N), opens new tab 787 Dreamliners crashed in Ahmedabad city, killing 260 people.
Four government notices, dated July 23, criticised Air India for repeated failures in safety compliance and follow many other warnings in the past. Potential regulatory action could include fines or ordering that executives be removed from their jobs.
The latest notices cite a combined 29 violations, including pilots not being given mandatory rest, poor compliance with simulator training requirements, lack of training for a high-altitude airport and flying on international routes with insufficient cabin crew.
"Despite repeated warning and enforcement action of non-compliance in the past, systemic issues related to compliance monitoring, crew planning, and training governance remain unresolved," said one of the notices.
"The recurrence of such violations suggests a failure to establish and enforce effective control mechanisms," it said.
Air India said in a statement that the notices related to voluntary disclosures made over the past year, and it will respond to the regulator.
"We remain committed to the safety of our crew and passengers," it added.
The DGCA did not respond to a Reuters request for comment.
Air India has come under intense scrutiny since the Ahmedabad crash, which was the world's aviation disaster in a decade.
A preliminary report found that the fuel control switches were flipped almost simultaneously after takeoff and there was pilot confusion in the cockpit. One pilot asked the other why he cut off the fuel and got a response that he hadn't done so, the report said.

WASHINGTON, Aug 4 (Reuters) - Donald Trump said on Monday he will substantially raise tariffs on goods from India over its Russian oil purchases, while New Delhi said it would take measures to safeguard its interests and called its targeting by the U.S. president "unjustified." Trump said last week Washington was still negotiating with India on trade after announcing the U.S. would impose a 25% tariff on goods imported from the country starting last Friday. India has faced pressure from the West, including the U.S., to distance itself from Moscow after Russia invaded Ukraine in early 2022. New Delhi has resisted that pressure, citing its longstanding ties with Russia and economic needs, opens new tab. "India is not only buying massive amounts of Russian Oil, they are then, for much of the Oil purchased, selling it on the Open Market for big profits. They don't care how many people in Ukraine are being killed by the Russian War Machine," Trump said in a post on Truth Social. A spokesperson for India's foreign ministry said India will "take all necessary measures to safeguard its national interests and economic security." "In this background, the targeting of India is unjustified and unreasonable," the spokesperson added. India began importing oil from Russia because traditional supplies were diverted to Europe after the outbreak of the Ukraine conflict, the Indian statement said. The spokesperson said India's imports were meant to ensure affordable energy costs for Indian consumers and were a "necessity compelled by global market situation." The statement also noted the West's, particularly the European Union's, bilateral trade with Russia: "It is revealing that the very nations criticizing India are themselves indulging in trade with Russia." India also has been frustrated by Trump repeatedly taking credit for an India-Pakistan ceasefire that he announced on social media on May 10. The ceasefire halted days of hostilities between the nuclear-armed Asian neighbors. India's position has been that New Delhi and Islamabad must resolve their issues directly without outside involvement. Trump has reached a trade deal with Pakistan.

Thousands of Boeing workers who build fighter jets and weapons go on strike
The strike started at Boeing facilities in St Louis; St Charles, Missouri; and Mascoutah, Illinois, after about 3,200 local members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers voted on Sunday to reject a modified four-year labour agreement, the union said. Last week, Boeing reported that its second-quarter revenue had improved and its losses had narrowed. The company lost 611 million dollars in the second quarter, compared to a loss of 1.44 billion dollars during the same period last year. Shares of Boeing Co slipped less than 1% before the opening bell on Monday.

India's IndusInd Bank appoints industry veteran Rajiv Anand as CEO
Aug 4 (Reuters) - India's IndusInd Bank said on Monday that its board has appointed Rajiv Anand as chief executive officer for a three-year term starting August 25. Anand, a veteran banker, is currently the deputy managing director at private lender Axis Bank ( opens new tab, and has held key management positions at leading global financial institutions. He was one of three candidates shortlisted by the bank's board, Reuters reported last month. The two other candidates were Rahul Shukla and Anup Saha.
