Marysville Non-Profits Hold Another Donation Drive for Fallen Officers' Family
Those in attendance told Fox40 that there was no question that the community would do all they could to help.
'We need this as a people, a society, to come together to support those that are defending us and protecting us, and that's what being a community is all about,' Rigo Diaz, General Manager of Recology, Yuba-Sutter County, said. 'And the community of Yuba-Sutter, this is what we do.'
'I love this community, and I respect the police department and what they do for the community, and this was unexpected,' Joginder Sekhon, a Marysville resident, tells Fox40. 'It has affected the whole community, everybody's upset about it. I feel like crying right now.'

Marysville Chief of Police Christian Sachs says he wasn't at all surprised at the colossal support the agency has received.
'Here, the Yuba-Sutter community is just second to none,' Chief Sachs tells Fox40. 'I mean, besides the fundraisers like every other day, to them stopping in to sit and check on us, walking down the street, stopping to give everybody a hug, it just warms your heart.'
Some residents were so eager to support this cause that some showed up hours early, others, right on time.
'I really respect that everybody that lends a helping hand,' Roleane Helder, a Marysville resident, tells Fox40 while waiting for her spaghetti.
'We just are heartbroken about this wonderful young man,' Jean Younggren, another Marysville resident waiting for her Spaghetti, says. 'His family is without his income now, and he can't possibly have had a pension. So, you know, we just need to come together and help them out. So, yeah, it's just what small towns do.'
The organizers hope that the proceeds can take some of the financial pressure off Officer Rodarte's family.
'There's nothing worse for these children that already lost their dad than to watch their mom have to go through this, and if we can relieve just a little bit of stress off her, just a little bit, you know, then we've done our job,' Angie Gates, Co-Founder of SoYouCan, who helped organize the event tells us.

Elderly Jeep driver crashes into pedestrian and building in Northern California, police say
( — A pedestrian was injured and a Northern California business sustained damage after an elderly Jeep driver crashed into them, according to the Galt Police Department. On Tuesday afternoon, GPD officers responded to a report of a vehicle collision involving a structure and a pedestrian at CVS Pharmacy, located at 1063 C Street. When officers arrived at the scene, they determined that an 81-year-old woman, the sole occupant of a Jeep Cherokee, attempted to park in a space in front of the business. ‘Cash drop scam' in Northern California leads to two arrests, linked to 40 cases
( — Two people were arrested in connection with a 'cash drop scam' that has been circulating through Northern California. Around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the Vacaville Police Department responded to a loss prevention agent at a local business who reported suspicious activity in the parking lot. In a cash drop scam, criminals will often observe a debit card transaction to capture someone's PIN, then approach them claiming they 'dropped some cash,' according to VPD. While the victim is distracted, the scammer swaps or steals their credit card and racks up thousands in fraudulent charges. Both of them showed police Romanian ID cards and were found to have multiple felony warrants for fraud, identity theft, conspiracy, and caretaker embezzlement/elder abuse. 'Our investigation — in coordination with the FBI — linked them to over 40 similar cases in more than six states,' VPD said. 'Thanks to one alert employee, these suspects are now in the Solano County Jail. This is how community vigilance helps keep Vacaville safe.' Northern California residents to be ‘wildly surprised' by massive illegal fireworks fines in the mail
( –Thousands of illegal fireworks users who thought they got away with lighting them up on the Fourth of July may be surprised by hefty citations showing up in their mailboxes over the next few weeks. Northern California skylines lit up Friday night with big, bright, and illegal fireworks. Despite stern warnings from law enforcement about fines and even possible jail time, there seemed to be no shortage of illegal fireworks going off throughout the night and into Saturday morning. Northern California officials suspect illegal fireworks to blame for several wildfires 'A lot of people are going to be wildly surprised when they get massive fines in the mail,' Sacramento Fire Department Captain Justin Sylvia told on Saturday. While residents were shooting colorful explosives into the sky, law enforcement was driving around in unmarked vehicles and flying drones over known hotspots for illegal activity. This tactic was also used last year, but this time around, penalties are drastically different, according to SFD. Instead of being fined per illegal fireworks occurrence, violators are now fined per lit firework. Northern California police warn of $1,000 fine per illegal firework amid Fourth of July holiday 'What may have been a $1,000 fine for one occurrence last year could now be $30,000 because you lit off so many,' Sylvia said. Fines are mailed to the homeowner, regardless of who lit the fireworks. Because of the Social Host Ordinance in Sacramento, the homeowner is responsible for all activities that happen on their premise. If the person who sets off illegal fireworks is renting or even just visiting, the homeowner will receive the fines. Police seize nearly 2,000 pounds of illegal fireworks, explosives in Northern California 'Homeowners around Sacramento might be issuing eviction notices,' Sylvia said. SFD said it is still reviewing surveillance footage, but has around 60 citations in the works. The citations, so far, total hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines. 'If you think you got away with it, you probably didn't,' Sylvia said. 'It's probably captured on video, so expect a very large fine coming your way.' Another Northern California agency, the Woodland Fire Department, is known to send out illegal fireworks citations after Independence Day has passed. Last year, the agency reviewed reports from the Nail Em App, which is an anonymous platform that community members can use to report their neighbors for illegal fireworks use. 'For those that we didn't have the pleasure of meeting in person on the 4th in action, you've got mail on the way,' WPD said during last year's operation.
