This year's release is a first in flavour profile for the independently owned distillery in Ayrshire
Award winning farm-to-cask Lochlea Distillery has unveiled Cask Strength Batch 3 – the latest release in its annual series of limited-edition cask strength bottlings – and a first in flavour profile for the independently owned distillery.
This year's release marks a bold evolution in Lochlea's Cask Strength series, combining rich Oloroso sherry with distinctive Islay peat - a pairing never before explored by the distillery.

It also represents a significant milestone for Lochlea's Master Blender Jill Boyd, who joined the distillery in late 2024 and has led the selection and blending of Cask Strength Batch 3 from start to finish.

Jill carefully selected whisky that has been matured in a combination of Oloroso Sherry Butts and Ex-Islay peated casks, creating a final spirit that balances richness and depth with a surprising twist of smoke.
Cask Strength Batch 3 delivers a captivating nose of ripe red fruits and savoury BBQ smoke, followed by a rich palate of cherries and dark molasses lifted by warming ginger cake, toasted rye and charred wood smoke.
The long, layered finish lingers with baking spice, salty smoke, and oaky tannins intertwining with delicate floral notes of red roses to create a bold new take on Lochlea's signature style.
Each batch of Lochlea's Cask Strength whiskies are carefully blended and bottled without any dilution, so every sip is just like trying samples from the warehouse itself.
This latest release follows Cask Strength Batch 2 released last summer that had been matured in a combination of PX, Oloroso and STR casks showcasing a depth and complexity.
The inaugural Cask Strength expression in 2023 was a combination of spirit matured in first-fill Bourbon barrels and Oloroso Sherry casks, working particularly well at high strength to amplify the fruit, nut and cereal flavours that form Lochlea's house spirit style.

Jill commented: "I am especially proud of Cask Strength Batch 3 as it has been my first opportunity to curate one of our whiskies from concept to bottle, putting my own mark on our range. I wanted to push the boundaries of our house style with something bold and different.
"As many whisky lovers will know, sherry and peat are both hugely popular flavour profiles, and we saw an opportunity to bring them together in a way that feels fresh and bold, yet rooted in our distillery's DNA.
"It's complex, it's warming, and it's got a smoky twist making it the perfect dram to enjoy with a BBQ in the sunshine!"
Cask Strength Batch 3 will be available from Lochlea stockists from May 29 onwards .It has been bottled at 59.8 per cent and has an RRP of £67.

Scots MP blasted for accepting cash donation from lobbyist

The donation came from a company owned by one of the country's top lobbyists. A Scottish MP is being urged to explain why she accepted a cash donation from a political lobbyist. Lib Dem MP Susan Murray received a £2000 donation from MFGC Holdings Ltd just three weeks after her election. ‌ The firm is owned by Mark Cummings – an ex-East Dunbartonshire Tory party chairman – who now runs one of Scotland's most prolific lobbying firms, Invicta Public Affairs. ‌ Invicta advocates for clients including supermarket giant Lidl, Graeme Souness 's firm Orchard Brae and housebuilders Miller Homes. Anti-corruption group Transparency International has demanded the rules be tightened. Juliet Swann, its nations and regions programme manager said: ' Lobbyists should not be making payments to elected officials and Parliament needs to do more to make this activity more open and accountable.' Mid Dunbartonshire MP Murray's register of interests shows she declared the £2000 donation last July 30 – three weeks after the General Election. The Scottish Lib Dems claimed the donation was from a 'long term supporter of the party' but according to the Electoral Commission MFGC donated £6000 to the Tories just six weeks earlier, on May 22. MFGC also sponsored Scottish Labour deputy leader Jackie Baillie's Christmas cards last year and, in 2023, took now-Tory leader Russell Findlay and fellow Tory MSP Murdo Fraser to the Scottish FA Cup semi-final at Hampden. ‌ Invicta, owned by MFGC, donated £2400 to Scottish Labour in April last year and gave the Tories £12,000 in 2018, the Electoral Commission said. Invicta is one of the most active lobbying firms in Scotland, recording 227 incidences of lobbying parliamentarians since 2018. ‌ It has also hired a number of politicians including former SNP MP Richard Thomson, who is its Scotland Associate Director, ex-SNP MSP Richard Lyle – a consultant who attends meetings with MSPs – and current Tory MSP Stephen Kerr, who was a consultant until 2021. Lyle came under fire last year when it emerged he had been using a pass provided to former MSPs to access Holyrood. Asked about the donation to Murray, Cummings said: 'I live in the constituency that Susan Murray MP now represents. I supported her election campaign because I felt she was the best candidate for the job. ‌ 'I understand Susan has declared my donation in line with all relevant legislation.' Asked if he was now a Lib Dem supporter, he did not comment. A Scottish Lib Dem spokesman said: 'The firm in question belongs to a long term supporter of the party. All donations are recorded and declared in line with the relevant legislation.'

Conor McGregor's BKFC faces ban as Australian leader slams 'brutal' sport

The Irishman was confirmed as a part owner of Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship last year, but not everyone seems to be onboard with the promotion Conor McGregor has been dealt a huge blow after an Australian politician revealed he is leading calls for bare knuckle fighting to be permanently banned in the country. The Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship, co-owned by McGregor, was set to make its Australian debut in Perth this July. However, the WA Combat Sports Commission has rejected the application. In response to this development, Australian Opposition Leader Basil Zempilas is urging the State Government to completely outlaw the sport, asserting it has no place in Western Australia. ‌ "It was very clear that a significant majority of Western Australians did not want this brutal sport to be coming to Perth," He continued: "It should not have taken this long, and there are still lots of questions," said Zempilas. He further added: "We don't know what criteria was not met, or how the decision was reached. We don't know whether there were discussions between the Minister and the Commission, and it would appear the door is still open." ‌ Zempilas is convinced that a ban is the only appropriate measure to prevent future applications. "That's what we want. Clearly that's what the people of Western Australia want," the 53-year-old said. "It sets a bad example, there is very little demand. And it took the long way and a confusing way to get there, but I'm pleased that the common sense decision was ultimately reached." Last year, the former dual-weight UFC champion and his company "McGregor Sports and Entertainment" became part-owners of BKFC, which has since seen a stunning growth, staging events worldwide with McGregor often in attendance. However, not everyone is thrilled about the bare-knuckle fighting promotion. However, not everyone appears to be onboard with the promotion. Zempilas' comments were echoed by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. Speaking to Triple M, Albanese said: "A bit of common sense - you've got to look after people's health a bit and maybe save people from themselves. I just think we've got to be much more conscious about health issues." When asked directly about bare knuckle fighting, the Prime Minister replied: "It's a bit crazy!" BKFC President David Feldman had previously insisted that the event would still go ahead. The lineup was set to feature ex-UFC heavyweight Ben Rothwell against Aussie powerhouse Alex 'Godly Strong' Simon, and 'Rowdy' Bec Rawlings slated to face Jade event was set to take place at RAC Arena on July 19, but with calls for a ban heating up, it seems very likely that the BKFC will struggle to host an event in Australia. Recently, McGregor vowed to compete in BKFC despite the controversy. "Yes. Yes. The warrior spirit burns strong inside me," he said at a BKFC press conference in Italy earlier this year. "For sure. If you think I'm up here giving these speeches and leading these men into battle and I won't step in there myself, think again. For sure. Conor McGregor will fight in Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship – mark my words." "I would wish to be the Bare Knuckle world champion. That is a significant belt to hold in your career. Nobody from boxing to mixed martial arts can speak nothing bad on a Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship world champion. So for sure, I'd be coming in looking for the world title. "There are many bouts, showcase bouts you could say. Michael Perry, Mike Perry. You could say Jeremy Stephens. You could say a rematch against Eddie Alvarez. You could say many matches. But the lightweight title, who is the champion right now, lightweight or welterweight? Let's see. I'm open. We'll see when it comes."
