ROP urges parents to protect children in cyberspace
By OUR CORRESPONDENT Muscat – Royal Oman Police (ROP) has underscored the vital role parents play in safeguarding children from online threats, urging active parental involvement and the use of parental control tools to ensure a safer digital environment for young Internet users. An advisory released under the theme 'Our Children's Safety in the Internet Space' outlines practical measures for parents and guardians to protect children online. ROP described parental supervision as a 'safe fortress' for children navigating the Internet. Key recommendations include selecting appropriate content, helping children identify and avoid harmful or misleading material, limiting screen time, and educating them on how to handle potential online dangers. The advisory also stresses the importance of monitoring children's online behaviour and being alert to any changes in their digital interactions. This vigilance enables parents to better understand their children's needs and challenges in today's rapidly evolving digital world. The advisory concluded with a clear call to action, emphasising that protecting children online is a shared responsibility requiring everyone to stay vigilant and proactive in ensuring their safety.
