Netflix Isn't Showing You All Its Movies and Shows. Here's How to Get Them

Yahoo08-02-2025

Choosing what to watch on Netflix isn't always easy. With an overwhelming amount of content and a browsing system that can be less than helpful, finding the perfect show or movie can feel like a chore. Whether you're craving a gripping mystery, a side-splitting comedy, or a feel-good drama, scrolling through endless titles can quickly become frustrating. But don't worry. There's a hidden trick that can make discovering your next binge-worthy watch a whole lot simpler.
Instead of relying on Netflix's algorithm to suggest titles, take matters into your own hands by using these secret number codes to unlock a treasure trove of hidden content. These codes serve as a key to accessing specific genres and subcategories, revealing everything from classic films to niche favorites you may not have stumbled upon otherwise. Whether you're looking for indie gems, international cinema, or even ultra-specific categories like '80s action movies or feel-good family comedies, these hidden collections will help you find the perfect watch without the endless scrolling.
Instead of letting the Netflix algorithm decide, take streaming into your own hands. It's time to cut short the endless scrolling and discover a new holiday show or movie to love. We've collected more than 20 Netflix categories specifically created for the holiday season below. For more, check out our favorite sci-fi movies on Netflix and learn how to share your favorite Netflix clips via text message or social media.
Netflix codes are a set of unique numerical identifiers that can help you find specific genres or sub-genres in the Netflix library on the streamer's website (not the app).
Typically, you're constrained to the genres available to you via the main Netflix menu. There's no way to choose by specific category other than what's been chosen for you when you log on. Using these codes opens up an entire library of options for you to choose from that can help you better settle on what to watch for the night. It can even help you discover new shows and movies you've never heard of.
Adding these codes to the ends of Netflix URLs lets you directly access collections of movies and TV shows that fall under your chosen category. For example, if you're short on time and want to queue up a shorter movie, you could check the 90-Minute Movies category with the code 81466194. Looking for something for your entire brood to enjoy? The "Family Movie Night" collection, accessed with code 2013975, is chock-full of favorites even Grandma can get into.
There are well over 36,000 codes to choose from, so don't worry about memorizing them or trying random sequences. Resources like Netflix-Codes.com have an entire directory to sift through, so you can search for what you'd like to watch there and find corresponding codes in no time.
There isn't an all-encompassing Netflix secret menu per se. Instead, you will use URLs with special codes to display certain curated collections of movies and shows.
Netflix-Codes.com has a good list of the streaming platform's hidden genre categories and subcategories. In total, there are around 20 top-level categories covering genres like animation, foreign films and classic movies. Within those main genres are many more hyper-specific subgenres denoted by numeric codes.
All you need to do is find the category you want, copy the related code, and append it to the end of a Netflix URL.
There's much more to Netflix than what you've been scrolling through. At last count, there were over 36,000 unique categories to explore.
The entirety of the categories available on Netflix starts with broad main genres like Action, Comedy and Drama, but they get more specific as you dive even deeper. There are straight-to-the-point collections like Movies Directed by Women (code 2974953), or more specifically targeted curated lists, like Supernatural Soaps (code 81238162), just in case you like your werewolves with a side of angst and romance.
Feeling "Very Demure, Very Mindful?" The very queen of that TikTok trend, Jools Lebron, has a collection just for you. Likewise, if you're feeling the fall football season, check out Touchdowns, Triumphs & Trials.
Rather than relying solely on the standard homepage categories or Netflix's algorithm, you can use these secret codes to pinpoint and explore different nooks and crannies of the catalog to find hidden gems.
Netflix secret codes are exactly that -- secret. There's no official directory, and it's hard to get a full list, as categories will go empty as movies and shows move on and off of Netflix. The names of categories will also change often as well, so you'll want to be vigilant when you go searching for romantic content.
Here are all of the Valentine's Day and romantic codes that we've found on Netflix for movies and shows in 2025:
Romantic Comedies (5475)
Romantic Dramas (1255)
Steamy Romantic Movies (35800)
Romantic LGBTQ+ Movies (3329)
Romantic Foreign Movies (7153)
Classic Romantic Movies (31273)
Quirky Romance (36103)
Romantic Favorites (502675)
Romantic Independent Movies (9916)
If you're not comfortable with editing Netflix URLs, you can use a browser extension to access the secret menus. The Better Browse for Netflix extension for Chrome is a great choice. Here's how to use it:
1. Go to the Chrome Web Store and search for "Better Browse for Netflix." (Note that this extension is unavailable for Firefox users.)
2. Click Add to Chrome.
3. Click Add Extension.
4. Log into your Netflix account in a new tab.
If the extension is installed, you'll see a Browse All option at the top of your Netflix home screen next to My List. Click it to scroll through the subgenres or to search through specific categories.
Alternatively, you can use the FindFlix: Netflix Secret Category Finder browser extension for Chrome or Firefox. This add-on will create a drop-down menu complete with Netflix categories for your browser that you can scroll through by clicking on the FF icon that will appear on the top right of your screen. There's no need to scroll Netflix natively with this add-on, and it features 7,500 categories alphabetized for your convenience.
A third way is through the Netflix Codes website. Here's how:
1. Visit Netflix-codes.com in any PC or mobile browser.
2. Find the genre or subgenre you want to explore.
3. Tap the code next to the genre or subgenre you want.
4. If you're on a device that has the Netflix app installed, the app should open and take you directly to the genre or subgenre you chose. If you don't have the app installed, it'll open Netflix through the browser and you can view the specific movies and shows available.
5. Tap the title you want to watch, and it'll start playing.
Finally, if you're comfortable with creating custom URLs, you can use Netflix codes manually in your browser. Here's how:
1. Visit Netflix-codes.com on any PC or mobile browser.
2. Find the genre or subgenre you want to explore.
3. In another tab, type in http://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/INSERTNUMBER, but replace INSERTNUMBER with the specific genre or subgenre code. For instance, http://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/81466194 will take you to "90-Minute Movies."
4. If done correctly, you'll be taken to Netflix to peruse the titles available in that section.
Simply repeat this process the next time you find a code for a Netflix category you'd like to explore. You can do this as many times as you'd like.

What is wrong with Norah from Netflix's Ginny & Georgia? I think I know

New episodes of Ginny & Georgia season 3 went online on Thursday and there is practically no adolescent issue that this mother-daughter dramedy hasn't covered. Losing your virginity? Check. Getting into a huge fight with your bestie? Yep. Getting drunk at a house party? Got that covered. Learning that your mom killed your stepdad? Also check. Okay, maybe that last one isn't so typical, but you get the idea. So it's no surprise that in season 3 of Ginny & Georgia, the Netflix hit is tackling that infamous coming-of-age milestone: periods. For the past two seasons, fans have watched high schooler Ginny and her core group of girlfriends, Max, Abby, and Norah try to survive Wellsbury High. In classic teen show fashion, every character has their own issues. Max is a girl-crazy drama queen (literally, she's an actor), Abby is struggling with body dysmorphia and bulimia, and now, in season 3, Norah's got period problems. Throughout the newest season, Norah is either on her period, waiting for it, or complaining about it. 'My period is so irregular, I can't even predict when it's going to happen,' she says in episode 6, right before getting all of her friends to take pregnancy tests with her. The very next episode, her pregnancy scare is forgotten, but her mysterious period ailments continue. 'My mom took me to the gynae, which was pointless because they just ask me a hundred different questions. And you don't know your family history when you're adopted.' (Yep, the show also has an adoption subplot.) The doctors ran tests, Norah explained, but still can't figure out what's going on. Well, I have a pretty good guess. I first got my period when I was 11, and for five years, when doctors asked me if my periods were heavy or irregular, I shrugged and said, 'No.' I didn't know any better. What I didn't tell my peadiatrician was that I was bleeding through super tampons and maxi pads, staining my PJs and sheets, and downing painkillers to deal with my period cramps. Despite having two sisters and a whole gaggle of girlfriends, I truly thought that my period was normal because I had learned to live with it. I never thought to compare notes. Then one morning during a particularly heavy period, I took a step out of bed and a blood clot flew out of my underwear and onto the carpet. I had bled through the super plus tampon I was wearing and my overnight maxi pad. The next time my doctor asked me if my periods were heavy, I finally said, 'Yes.' Unlike Norah, I was overweight, so my doctor already suspected I had a hormonal issue and sent me to an endocrinologist straight away. A few doctors appointments and 8 to 10 vials worth of blood tests later, I was diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome). It's a hormone disorder believed to be hereditary that can cause, among other things, excess facial hair, heavy or irregular menstrual cycles, weight gain, and ovarian cysts. Some women don't have a lot of symptoms; others have all of the above. At the time, the criteria for PCOS was extremely vague, and the possible treatments were basically nonexistent. (In case you need a reminder: Women's health is underfunded, under-researched, and undervalued.) Effective medical treatments for PCOS are hard to come by. When I asked about next steps, my doctor shrugged their shoulders, gave me a prescription for birth control, and told me to lose weight (which, oh, by the way, is harder to do when you have PCOS). Over 15 years later, it seems not much has changed. At the end of the season, Norah's period mystery remains unsolved. She doesn't know why her periods are irregular or why she has bad cramps. And after years of just dealing with it, she seems resigned to just barreling through. I feel her pain. While I assume that she'll get a hard-fought diagnosis of either PCOS or endometriosis in season 4, it's also possible that she'll never get the answers she's looking for. Ask any woman with PCOS or endometriosis and they'll tell you it took years for them to even go to a doctor to discuss period pain, let alone be diagnosed. And that's partly due to the fact that many women just don't know that these conditions exist. Period pain is often dismissed, and uterus-related conversations are still taboo. Even in teen shows like Gilmore Girls or Gossip Girl, characters don't acknowledge their periods until there's a pregnancy scare plot. Young women like Norah might not learn about PCOS or endometriosis from their friends or their mothers or even their doctors—so I'm hoping that at least for some teens and tweens, Norah's storyline on Ginny & Georgia can fill in the gaps. And if a hormone disorder is the cause of her period problems, I hope she gets diagnosed faster than I did. What to Stream: HAIM, 'The Gilded Age,' Benson Boone, astronaut Sally Ride and digital dinosaurs

Lifelike digital Triceratops and Spinosaurus lumbering through a reimagined 'Walking with Dinosaurs' and Benson Boone's sophomore album 'American Heart' are some of the new television, films, music and games headed to a device near you. Also among the streaming offerings worth your time, as selected by The Associated Press' entertainment journalists: A documentary on trailblazing NASA astronaut Sally Ride, the third season of 'The Gilded Age' and Tron: Catalyst, a video game inspired by the 1982 movie 'Tron.' — Cristina Costantini's documentary 'Sally' (Tuesday on Disney+) richly details the story behind the headlines of the first American woman to fly in space. The portrait of Sally Ride, the trailblazing NASA astronaut, is narrated by her life partner of 27 years, Tam O'Shaughnessy. Her intimate perspective on Ride, along with archival footage and interviews with family and colleagues, captures a fuller backstory to an American icon who rose despite pervasive sexism. — 'The Ballad of Wallis Island' (streaming on Peacock) was a standout in the first half of 2025, but easy to miss. A funny and tender charmer set on the coast of Wales, it's not a movie screaming for your attention. It stars Tim Key as an isolated widower who uses some of his lottery winnings to hire his favorite band, a folk duo named McGwyer Mortimer (Tom Basden, Carey Mulligan) to play by his rural home. In her review, AP Film Writer Lindsey Bahr wrote that the film feels 'like a much-needed balm. Modest in scope and made with the lightest of touch, not unlike the lovely folk songs that populate its soundtrack, it's also deceptively powerful: A gentle ode to moving on, in quirky packaging.' — Netflix tends to bury older films in its algorithms but the streamer is hosting a good batch of Alfred Hitchcock movies. This month, it added 'Vertigo,' 'Rear Window,' 'The Man Who Knew Too Much,' 'Frenzy,' 'The Plot' and 'The Birds' to its collection, along with the already-streaming 'Psycho.' These are movies often available elsewhere, and there are many other great Hitchcock films. But a solid sampler pack on Netflix could help bring Hitch to some new audiences, and there's never a bad time to see 'Vertigo' for the first time. New music to stream from June 16-22 — 'Beautiful Things' singer Benson Boone will release his sophomore album, 'American Heart,' on Friday, June 20. Expect big pop-rock filtered through a kind of post-Harry Styles mimicry, and 1970s worship. For fans of Queen, ELO, and gymnastic pop stars with a penchant for doing backflips on stage. — The Los Angeles sister trio HAIM have returned with 'I Quit,' 15 tracks of danceable breakup bangers perfect for your summertime sadness. It's soft rock-pop for the Miu Miu crowd and a sonic cure for seasonal depression. — The Brooklyn-based R&B/soul singer-songwriter Yaya Bey will release a new album on Friday, June 20, 'do it afraid.' It's a big of a detour for the ever-evolving talent: 'Merlot and Grigio' features Bajan dancehall artist Father Philis, the dance-y 'Dream Girl' has echoes of Prince and 'Raisins' is a bit jazzy. There's a lot to love here. — For the indie crowd, the New York-based Hotline TNT have been a fan favorite for their shoegaze-y power pop that appeals to both classic rockers and those emo pop-punkers who miss the Vans' Warped Tour. On Friday, June 20, the group, led by Will Anderson, will release 'Raspberry Moon' via Jack White's Third Man Records. Across the release, they build on their guitar melodicism. — AP Music Writer Maria Sherman New series to stream from June 16-22 — In 1999 a series called 'Walking with Dinosaurs' premiered in the UK and captivated audiences. Narrated by Kenneth Branagh, it was inspired by 'Jurassic Park' and at the time was the most expensive documentary per-minute ever made. Special effects like CGI and animatronics helped bring the dinosaurs to life. Twenty-five years later, a reimagined 'Walking with Dinosaurs' debuts on PBS in conjunction with the BBC using the latest technology to make the dinosaurs seem even more lifelike. The six-episode series is now narrated by actor Bertie Carvel. It will be available to stream on PBS platforms and its app beginning Monday. — It's a great week for period pieces. First, Apple TV+'s Gilded Age, girl power series, 'The Buccaneers,' returns Wednesday for its second season. The soapy period piece features a cast that includes Kristine Froseth, Alisha Boe, Josie Totah and Christina Hendricks. It's based on an unfinished Edith Wharton novel about five American women in London for debutante season. These women are a contrast to English high society because they're extroverted and opinionated. The story is centered around Froseth's Nan who is in a love triangle although each character has their own drama to contend with. Leighton Meester has also joined the cast. — BritBox has the 1930s drama 'Outrageous," also out Wednesday. It's based on the true story of the Mitford sisters, six women born into an aristocratic family who made headlines for their personal lives and politics. Bessie Carter, who plays Penelope Featherington on 'Bridgerton' plays one of the sisters, Nancy Mitford. 'Outrageous' is inspired by a biography that was originally published in 2002. — The TV adaptation of the popular YA novel 'We Were Liars' arrives on Prime Video on Wednesday. It follows the affluent Sinclair family who has enough secrets to fill one of their bank accounts. It follows Cadence, one of the granddaughters who pals around all summer with two cousins and a family friend, Gat, and their group of four is known as The Liars. When Cadence is injured and no one will be honest with her about what happened, she attempts to piece together what happened. — Another dysfunctional family is introduced Thursday in Netflix's 'The Waterfront" about the Buckleys, a family of fisherman and restaurateurs in North Carolina. Business has been dwindling and questionable choices are made to stay afloat, keep their secrets, and not get caught by authorities. Holt McCallany ("Mindhunter") Maria Bello and Melissa Benoist star. Topher Grace and Dave Annable also have recurring roles. — A third period piece out this week is the third season of 'The Gilded Age" and there is a lot to catch up on. Cynthia Nixon's Ada Forte, now a widower after a very short marriage, has just discovered her late husband left her a fortune. This makes Ada the new matriarch of her family, surpassing her sister Agnes (played by Christine Baranski.) Their niece Marian (Louisa Jacobson) seems to be in the early stages of a courtship with neighbor Larry Russell, whose family's wealth comes from new money. Created by Julian Fellowes, the new season premieres Sunday, June 22 on Max. — Alicia Rancilio New video games to play from June 16-22 — The influence of Disney's movie 'Tron,' with its icy, neon vision of cyberspace, far outweighs the number of people who actually saw it when it came out in 1982. (I know I spent a lot more time playing the arcade game.) We are getting a third movie, 'Tron: Ares,' in October — but first we get a new game, Tron: Catalyst. You are Exo, an advanced computer program in a glitchy electronic world. You'll need to fight malware with your Identity Disc or run from it on your Light Cycle as you try to escape a malevolent entity called Conn. Developer Bithell Games' previous release, Tron: Identity, was a tightly focused mystery, and Catalyst looks to expand upon its stylish metaverse. Boot up Tuesday on PlayStation 5, Xbox X/S, Switch and PC.
